Chapter 6

Forever In Your Eyes (Sequel to Only You)

Chanyeol had the envelope in his hands still waiting for Ji Hyun to wake up. He wanted to know if what was in the envelope was true. He wanted to know if Luhan knew, but from the looks of it it didn’t seem like Luhan knew. What was Ji Hyun hiding? Ji Hyun came downstairs, before anyone else did and was completely dressed and ready for the day. Chanyeol got up with the envelope still in his hand.

            “Good morning,” Ji Hyun greeted.

“You left this downstairs last night,” Chanyeol handed Ji Hyun the envelope. “I thought it was important, so I wanted to give it to you before anyone else saw it.”

Ji Hyun kept her eyes on the envelope, thinking about how stupid she was for leaving it last night instead of taking it with her. “Did you look inside?”

Chanyeol shook his head. “I didn’t want to be nosy.”

“You did look inside, did you?”

“If you divorce Luhan, I think you would regret it.”

“It’s none of your business,” Ji Hyun bitterly said.

“Why are you doing it?” Chanyeol asked. “What has he done to you that is so bad?”

“It’s not him, it’s me. You wouldn’t understand.”

“I don’t understand,” Chanyeol admitted. “I thought Luhan was everything you wanted.”

“He is, but did you ever think that maybe I’m not the right person for him?”

“Is he the one that’s asking for a divorce?”

            “No. It’s complicated.”

“Ji Hyun, why are you divorcing Luhan? There has to be something else besides saying you weren’t right for him.”

“It’s nothing!” Ji Hyun snapped. “Stay out of my business.”

“Do mom and dad know?” Chanyeol asked.

“Of course they don’t. I haven’t told anyone and you won’t tell anyone either, okay?”

            “Why?”

“Because if you tell someone, I’ll tell mom and dad about one of your special friend. I really don’t want to hold it against you, but I guess I have to if you’re going to do this to me.”

“Luhan is my brother though,” Chanyeol replied.

“Now this is when you want to acknowledge Luhan as your brother? A couple months ago you didn’t even care about Luhan,” Ji Hyun muttered.

“Ji Hyun… My special friend isn’t nearly as serious as this.”

“You’re married, of course it’s serious, plus do you really suspect mom and dad to like the reason on why you got married.”

“Fine, I won’t tell anyone about this if you don’t bring anything up to mom and dad,” Chanyeol finally gave in even though he knew it was a bad idea. “But when are you going to tell Luhan?”

“When I’m ready,” Ji Hyun replied.

“How about tonight when Luhan, you, and I have dinner with mom and dad I’ll tell them about me getting married and you can tell Luhan later that night, okay?” Chanyeol suggested.

“It’s not that simple,” Ji Hyun whined. “Your news is much easier than what I have to tell him.”

“Why does it matter? If you don’t love Luhan enough to get a divorce it shouldn’t be that hard. I’m only giving you tonight or else I’ll tell Luhan myself.” Chanyeol was dead serious about it and Ji Hyun could see in Chanyeol’s eyes that pierce through her.

Mrs. Xi was at her bridal store looking through the inventory trying to make sure everything was put in place. She always was the first one at the bridal store since she always felt happy being there and because she wanted to make sure everything was perfect. After she was done with checking inventory, she decided to sit and read a little bit. While she was reading there was a knock on the door, when she looked up she gasped.

“Tiffany!” Mrs. Xi hugged her niece tightly. She examined Tiffany and noticed how darker Tiffany got from being in Hawaii for so long. “What are you doing here? I thought you wouldn’t be here for another week or two?”

“That’s what I thought, but for some reason Ji Hyun called me and wanted me to come here early, same thing with Chanyeol too,” Tiffany explained. “I thought it was a little word, because I thought Luhan and Ji Hyun would want to be alone now that they can have a kid again.”

“I wonder why she would want you and Chanyeol to come home early.” Mrs. Xi sat back down at her desk, when she gasped.

“What?” Tiffany said.

“Do you think maybe Ji Hyun might be pregnant again? That’s why she wanted you and Chanyeol to come home early?”

“Maybe it is!” Tiffany squealed. “If she is, I hope it’s another girl! I want Luhan and Ji Hyun to name her Tiffany. What did they want to name their daughter again?”

“They wanted to name her Ji Min, but they decided to name her Soo Young,” Mrs. Xi said. “I guess if they have a girl again they can name her Ji Min.”

“What if it’s a boy?” Tiffany thought. “Oh, they can name it something cute like Minho or Jae Min. Or if they have twins a boy and girl it can be Jae Min and Ji Min. Although, I think Luhan isn’t intelligent enough to not get them confused.” Tiffany collapsed on a chair next to Mrs. Xi’s desk. “We should have dinner tonight with Luhan and Ji Hyun. I miss them a lot.”

“Luhan and Ji Hyun are having dinner with her parents tonight with Chanyeol.”

“Have you spent any time with Chanyeol?” Tiffany asked.

“He’s been so busy traveling around Busan with his friends I haven’t seen him much.”

“I think he and Luhan share the same eyes and maybe the same nose, but I think Luhan has his dad’s lips and ears,” Tiffany said. “Chanyeol, must look more like his dad.”

“Luhan and Chanyeol look more like their dads than they look like me,” Mrs. Xi replied.

“Maybe one day you can spend time with both Luhan and Chanyeol. Yeah?” Tiffany suggested. “Since it’s just been me and Luhan are whole lives, he’s probably happy to have Ha Joon and Chanyeol.”

“If Chanyeol is willing to see me as his actual mother instead of Mrs. Hwan than sure,” Mrs. Xi muttered.

Chanyeol, Luhan, and Ji Hyun arrived at their parent’s house early to help out. Since Mrs. Hwan always had the maids prepare the dinner, they didn’t have to do much. Chanyeol and Ji Hyun couldn’t face each other, without looking like they were going to catch on fire. They were all sitting in the living room talking and enjoying glasses of wine. Ji Hyun glanced at Chanyeol who’s nervous laugh would come out every time his parents would say something to him.

“Chanyeol,” Mrs. Hwan said. “One of my friends, their daughter is single and I was thinking maybe you should go on a date with her. Get some coffee.”

“Dating isn’t really my thing right now, mom,” Chanyeol tried his best to make his voice sound as casual, but everything came out with a nervous laugh.

“Why?” Mr. Hwan asked. “Maybe if you go out with her you can get married and be like Luhan and Ji Hyun and be in love.”

Luhan reached over caressing Ji Hyun’s hand. “Chanyeol if you go out with her, maybe you’ll fall in love and love her as much as I love Ji Hyun.”

“How much do you love me?” Ji Hyun asked. She turned to Chanyeol. “You don’t have to get a girlfriend right now.”

Chanyeol looked at his wine glass and noticed he didn’t a single sip of his wine. “Mom, dad… There’s something I have to tell you.”

“What?” Mrs. Hwan said.

“Um… I…” Feeling like he was on the verge of choking, Chanyeol flashed an awkward smile at his parents. “I… I decided… I decided I’m going to finish college in Seoul.”

“That’s wonderful,” Mrs. Hwan smiled happily at her son. “Good for you that way you can be closer to the family.”

“Yeah…”

Ji Hyun glared at Chanyeol and all he did was stare at Luhan. Chanyeol felt like he was betraying one of his best friend, his brother, his blood. He took one last picture in his head of Luhan smiling, because he knew that it might be the last time he will ever smile.

After dinner, the car ride home was what made things shift into an even more uncomfortable position. As Luhan was driving, he saw the bleakness in both Ji Hyun and Chanyeol.

“Why are you two so quiet tonight? You two hardly spoke during dinner,” Luhan pointed out.

“I’m tired tonight,” Ji Hyun’s eyes were on her wedding ring as she took it off her finger and examined it. The diamond being a perfect secured in its silver band, glistening even when dark outside. “Did you mean it when you said you loved me?”

Luhan laughed. “Of course I did, why wouldn’t I?” Luhan intertwined his hand with Ji Hyun’s; he kissed the back of her hand making Ji Hyun instantly smile. “I’ll always love you, just like how you’ll always love me, right?”

“Of course.” Ji Hyun turned and saw Chanyeol, who’s attention was looking out the window. He glanced at his older sister and this time instead of his piercing eyes of glares, he had sympathy for his sister.

When they arrived back home, Chanyeol’s friends left a note for Chanyeol telling him that they went out for dinner and that they would probably be home late. Luhan told Ji Hyun that he was going to take a shower, which gave Ji Hyun the perfect opportunity to confront Chanyeol. About three minutes, after Luhan left, Ji Hyun walked over to Chanyeol who was in the kitchen.

“Why didn’t you tell mom and dad the truth?” Ji Hyun asked.

“I couldn’t… It would ruin them,” Chanyeol muttered.

“How would it ruin them?” Ji Hyun asked. “It’s your life not there’s!”

“Why don’t you tell Luhan then?” Huh? If you make it sound so easy!” Chanyeol snapped.

“Don’t turn this on me, at least mom and dad were there when I got married.”

“How do you think they’ll feel when they find out your getting divorced?”

Ji Hyun felt her vision blur from all the strength in her body trying to keep the tears in. “I don’t want to get a divorce-“

“Then why are you?” Chanyeol asked.

“I won’t fight with you again about this,” Ji Hyun stated. “I can’t… I won’t. You know what? I don’t need you to tell mom and dad about your screw up, I will have to tell Luhan eventually and I will soon. I don’t have much time left, so I might as well do it now.”

“Ji Hyun, what do you mean?” Chanyeol wondered.

“I love you Chanyeol… Brother.” Ji Hyun made her way up stairs to her room. She grabbed her purse and started shuffling through her purse, in her purse was the prescription bottle. Just like what Dr. Choi told her, Ji Hyun took out took pills and popped them in . In the corner of her eye, she could see the tiny piano music box Luhan got her a couple days ago. She reached for it and cranked the back so the music could play. Hearing the song “Angel” made her instantly smile, but instead of a happy smile, it was a smile of angst and hurt.

During the night, Ji Hyun couldn’t sleep again. She felt a strange feeling in her stomach, though she was pretty sure it was side effects from her pills. Luhan had his arms wrapped around her, which used to make Ji Hyun always feel so safe, but now she felt like she was in the arms of a complete stranger.

“I love you Luhan,” Ji Hyun whispered.

Ji Hyun texted Jessica telling her to meet her at the café so they could talk. It was good for Ji Hyun to get out since Luhan told her he was going to hang out with Kris, Lay, Kai, and Sehun. Ji Hyun and Luhan, both walked downstairs hand in hand, Luhan kept kissing Ji Hyun’s cheek and whispering that he loved her, while Ji Hyun just responded with faint smiles.

“You two seem happy this morning,” Chen said as he yawned.

“Yes, we are,” Ji Hyun replied. Chanyeol gave his sister a sad smile, but she didn’t respond in anyway.

“Where are you two going?” Amber asked.

“We’re going out with our friends,” Luhan said. “So we’ll see you all later, okay?”

            “Okay, have fun,” Taeyeon said.

“Thanks.” Luhan turned to Ji Hyun. “I’m going to go in the car first okay?”

“Okay.” Ji Hyun watched Luhan leave outside the door, while Ji Hyun headed towards the kitchen getting a bottle of water from the fridge.

Chanyeol followed his sister. “Ji Hyun, is there something you’re not telling me?”

“No,” Ji Hyun sighed. “See you later okay brother?”

            “Okay.”

While in the car, Ji Hyun popped more pills in and washed it down with the bottle of water. She hated taking pills, because she felt like she could choke even if she drank water with it. Luhan noticed and was confused at the sight.

“Why are you taking pills?” Luhan asked.

“I have a headache,” Ji Hyun lied. “Don’t worry it’s nothing bad.”

“Okay, that’s good. So I’m dropping you off and Jessica will take you home right?”

            “Yeah.”

“I love you Ji Hyun,” Luhan told Ji Hyun for the hundredth time.

Jessica took a sip of her bubble tea as she flipped through her magazine while waiting for Ji Hyun. She saw Ji Hyun walk through the doors, Ji Hyun hugged Jessica and sat down across from her.

“You’re not going to get anything?” Jessica asked.

“No. I’m not really hungry or thirsty,” Ji Hyun replied.

“It’s good that Luhan is being productive and talking hanging out with his friends again. I’m glad both of you are doing better,” Jessica admitted. “I was beginning to think that you and Luhan would never talk to anyone the same again.”

“Jessica, can I ask you something?”

            “Of course. What’s wrong?”

“How do you think it would be like if I died?” Ji Hyun asked.

Jessica couldn’t help but snicker and scoff. “What are you talking about? Are you dying?”

“No, it’s just I thought about it the other day and I wanted to know. If my family would miss me or if you would all miss me. It’s a thought.”

“Of course I would miss you, you’re my friend.” Jessica weakly smiled. “Ji Hyun, are you okay? Is there something wrong?”

“I feel really depressed and I’m not sure what to do,” Ji Hyun whispered.

“Well, whatever it is, that’s what we’re here for and Luhan.”

Luhan, Sehun, Kris, Kai, and Lay were playing soccer, which was something that seemed to calm Luhan when he wasn’t playing with his rubix cube. When he first found out Ji Hyun was pregnant he told himself that when their child learned how to walk, he would take them out to the field and teach them how to play soccer. They were all sweaty even though they were only playing for about an hour. All of them were sitting on the bleachers resting. Sehun started thinking about a couple days ago when he ran into Ji Hyun at the hospital. He couldn’t help but wonder if Ji Hyun told him about her doctor’s appointment.

“So… How has Ji Hyun been?” Kris asked.

“She’s been doing great,” Luhan answered happily.

“Do you think you two are going to try and have a kid again?” Lay asked.

“Of course, she wants another kid and I want another kid.”

“You two seem like the perfect couple, compared to how you two were you when you two first started dating,” Kai said. “If you can call going out on a date while you were engaged to Reira, ‘being together.’”

“I can’t believe you were engaged to someone like Reira,” Kris told Luhan. “I wonder where she is now.”

“My mom told me she’s married to some lawyer guy,” Luhan said. “He’s like ten years older than her.”

“Gross,” Kai and Lay said at the same time.

“Why are you so quiet Sehun?” Kris wondered.

“Oh, nothing, just tired,” Sehun replied as he took a big gulp of his water. “So, Luhan have you spoken to Ji Hyun yet?”

“Have I spoken to Ji Hyun about what?” Luhan asked.

“Oh… Uh, never mind,” Sehun muttered.

“Sehun, have I spoken to Ji Hyun about what?” Luhan repeated. “What’s wrong?”

“Don’t ask me, ask her,” Sehun mumbled. Luhan looked at Kris, Kai, and Lay who were just confused as he was.

Kai just shrugged and jumped off the bleachers. “Come on guys, let’s keep playing.”

Luhan arrived back at home with the house completely empty and quiet. He knew that Ji Hyun was probably in the living room flipping through magazines and drinking tea like she always was. He put his stuff in front of the door and made his way to the living room. There he saw Ji Hyun standing by the window, all her attention on the outside.

“What are you doing?” Luhan asked. He saw the envelope in her hand and wanted to know what it was.

“Oh nothing.” Ji Hyun hid the envelope behind her and smiled.

“Well, Sehun wants me to ask you what’s up… So…what’s up?”

Ji Hyun just laughed. “Nothing.”

“What’s in the envelope?” Luhan asked leaning to see it behind her.

“Oh, nothing…” Ji Hyun shifted a little trying to keep it away from Luhan.

“Let me see.”

            “No.”

Luhan snatched the envelope from Ji Hyun and opened it. He took out the papers and scanned it, his smile slowly faded. “What is this?” Ji Hyun didn’t say anything and only responded to looking down at her feet.

“Divorce papers,” Ji Hyun whispered. “I’m leaving you, Luhan.”

“Leaving me? Is this a joke or something?” Luhan barely managed to get the words out of his mouth. “Why?”

“I…” Ji Hyun could feel the hot tears spill out as the words got harder to say. “I think we moved to quickly and…” Nothing but acid was what Ji Hyun felt come out of . “I don’t think I feel the same way about you anymore.”

“Don’t say that.” Tears slowly rolled down Luhan’s face. “Is this because of the baby? Ji Hyun, we can always try again and I don’t care. If you don’t want kids that’s fine, it doesn’t matter.”

“I can’t do that to you Luhan, I know how much you want kids. I just don’t think I’m the one for you.”

“But I love you. I don’t want to be with anyone else. What can I do to change your mind about this?”

            “Nothing... My decision is final.”

“Luhannie!” Tiffany’s voice rang through the whole house and she walked through the door with Chanyeol and his friends. Tiffany was so excited, she ran to the living room. When she saw Luhan and Ji Hyun’s tears streaming down their faces, her smile faded. “What’s wrong?”

Ji Hyun looked up at Luhan, who didn’t say anything, but threw the papers on the floor and ran upstairs. Chanyeol knew that it meant that Ji Hyun told him, she glanced at Chanyeol and wiped her tears.
