Can't dance, can skate

The competition

“Can’t you at least give me a clue?” Xiumin pleaded. They had been walking along the cold, dark streets of Seoul for at least half an hour already and he wanted to know if his frozen fingers and red nose would be a valid price to pay for wherever they were headed.

“Patience Min.” Chen chided with a grin, “We’re nearly there anyway.”

Their hands swung between them, fingers tangled together as they strode into the night. Xiumin couldn’t help but blush every time he remembered their joined hands and yet there was something about the fluttery, embarrassed feeling that spread from his stomach to his cheeks that just felt right. It felt like home. He knew that that sounded cheesy and if anyone could read his mind at that moment they would probably start throwing up rainbows but he really didn’t care because somehow, it was the truth.

“Tada!” Chen exclaimed flinging his arms about his body to gesture at the large building in front of them. Xiumin looked up quickly, having been focused on the frosty, frozen pavement up until that moment. A gasp slipped from his lips before they stretched into a wide smile. The door to the ice rink was edged with twinkling fairy lights that made Xiumin think that Christmas must have come just a little early.

“I love skating!” Xiumin gushed as he grabbed the younger’s hand and pulled him hurriedly into the building. “Skating for two please.” He said happily to the bored looking woman behind the counter as he dug into his coat pocket for his wallet. Chen gave his hip a quick bump with his own to get him out of the way before offering up his own money to the woman.

“Hey-” Xiumin tried to argue, pushing his money at the woman also.

“Uh uh Minnie, I am so paying.” Chen smirked as he took Xiumin’s money and tucked it into the back pocket of his jeans. The woman accepted Chen’s money and said boy stuck his tongue out at Xiumin. Xiumin however was busy turning the colour of a ripe tomato due to the feel of Chen’s hand against his…well…him.

“Go over there to get your skates.” The woman said in a dull monotone. Ignoring the dampener she seemed to cast over the entire room the boys bounded over to the desk she had pointed to. After telling the slightly cheerier looking man their sizes they each received a pair of shining white skates. Xiumin felt his mouth fall open at the sight, they were stunning. So white and clean with a sharp silver blade that was as lethal as it was beautiful. They handed their own shoes over and walked over to the chairs that were set up about the room. Xiumin had to avoid quite a few wet puddles on his way, coming dangerously close to a soppy sock at one point. Chen seemed to have spirit fingers with the way in which they tightened and laced his boots so quickly, his white fingers racing about his boots with such grace.

Xiumin had barely gotten his foot into his first boot when Chen was already grinning at him proudly, two shining white boots tied perfectly onto his feet. Xiumin pouted as he struggled getting his heel into his own skate. Concentrating on his boot Xiumin didn’t notice Chen slipping out of his chair until his face was right before his own, dark lashes fanned out over his cheeks as he focused his gaze downward. Xiumin started at the sudden proximity, his heart hammering away as he swallowed away his nerves. Chen was crouched on the floor in front of Xiumin, pushing the elder’s bumbling hands away from his skates gently. Grabbing hold of his ankle, Chen slipped Xiumin’s foot in and deftly laced the skate, quickly following with the left foot. They weren’t too loose and they weren’t too tight; they were just right.

“W-what was that for?” Xiumin asked, his cheeks more pink than when they had been out in the cold night air. Chen lifted his chin, his dark fringe falling into his beautiful glassy eyes, which showed nothing but care. Xiumin wasn’t sure what he had been expecting, nothing too emotional or heartfelt but the reply he got definitely wouldn’t have been his top guess.

“Because you were so slow dummy!” Chen cackled as his gentle expression turned into one of an  evil little duck and he hopped up and out of Xiumin’s reach as the elder reached for him in anger. Chen simply stuck out his tongue and jumped back, laughing when Xiumin tried to follow and ended up in a heap on the floor. Chen doubled over, his laughter turning into pained wheezes while Xiumin hid his bright red face in his small palms. A few moments later as Chen’s chuckles fizzled out Xiumin felt two strong arms wrap around his torso and pull him up off of the floor.

“Come on Min, let’s get going before you knock yourself out.” Chen chuckled again but Xiumin couldn’t find the words to reply as Chen’s arm tightened ever so slightly about his waist and the made their way over to the rink. Even on the spongy ground that was designed for skates, Xiumin needed Chen’s hold to keep him steady. He had never been coordinated and although he loved the idea of being good at ice skating, at gliding across the ice, floating through the air, that dream had never been a reality, his clumsy feet had seen very well to that.

Chen slipped straight onto the ice as though he had been born to skate and spun quickly to face Xiumin, his movements sharp and clean, hands outstretched and waiting. Xiumin bit his lip and reached out to grab hold of the younger’s hands, he tentatively put one skate onto the ice. As soon as the second foot came in contact with the ice his knees buckled, his feet shooting out from under him. His heart jolted as he slipped towards the icy ground. He gasped loudly as Chen grasped his waist, holding him up firmly. The younger’s chuckled, warm breath tickling at Xiumin’s neck and causing him to blush up a storm.

“Baozi really doesn’t have any balance does he?” Chen teased the elder. 4

“Oh shut up, DanChen machine.” Xiumin pouted, sticking his tongue out teasingly at Chen. Chen raised a hand to his chest, holding it over his heart as he put on a hurt face.

“Are you saying that I can’t dance well?” He gasped in mock hurt.

“No.” Xiumin said as Chen began to lead them around the rink, his warm fast around the elder’s waist keeping him up. “I’m saying you can’t move without looking like a retarded whale.”

“Do you want me to let go? You know I will?” Chen asked, his face serious. Xiumin panicked and wrapped his arms around Chen’s chest, clenching his thin fingers in Chen’s jumper and tucking his head into the  younger’s neck, the fear of falling onto the ice taking over his body.

“No! I’m sorry! Don’t let go!” He wailed as he clung on. Chen’s hold tightened even more and Xiumin missed the warm smile he aimed down at him.

“I won’t, I won’t ever let go.” He murmured.

Half an hour later Xiumin was sat at a bench beside the rink watching as Chen skated about. It was only eight pm but for some reason the place seemed practically deserted. Xiumin’s gaze was transfixed onto the younger boy whose body was spinning and twirling around the rink, going at such graceful speeds that Xiumin couldn’t believe that anyone could move that fast over the ice without cutting straight through it. It was a stark contrast with the Chen that was awkward and nerdy when off the ice. Xiumin wasn’t sure which version of the boy he loved more, if either. Xiumin started, his eyes growing wide and glazing over, had he really just thought that word? The L word? Did he…that word…Chen? The more he thought about it the more butterflies flapped and fluttered in his stomach, pointing him in the direction of an answer, yes. Without memory of having even gotten up Xiumin found himself leaning against the side of the rink, arms resting on the thick plastic.

Chen came to a whiling stop beside him, flecks of ice raining down around them. Chen had a broad white grin spread across his face, his cheeks were thoroughly red and his chest rose and fell quickly with his excitement and exhaustion.

“Hey.” He breathed out.

Xiumin didn’t know what came over him but suddenly his fingers were laced through Chen’s soft brown locks and he was pulling the younger toward him, connecting their lips in a fiery dance. He pushed and pulled with his lips, his tongue gliding over Chen’s bottom lip before pushing into his hot mouth. He pulled back a moment later, gasping a little as he took in Chen’s wide eyes. He glanced down at Chen’s hands which were now resting snugly on his hips, his cheeks quickly flushing as he took in what he had just done.

“Hey.” He whispered in reply, biting down on his slightly swollen lower lip.

“Hey.” Chen repeated breathily before pulling Xiumin into him once more, connecting their lips once more. Xiumin felt the younger smiling into the kiss and couldn’t help but to do the same. The words he wanted to say poised on his tongue, were swallowed by Chen’s greedy lips. Nothing was said but everything was heard as fake snow fell around them and an old Christmas album jerked into gear. Xiumin brought his hands up and wrapped them around Chen’s neck, melting into the kiss, letting his instinct take over and melting into the younger’s embrace. It’s safe to say that they were the last to leave the rink that night.

Chapter 103: I've been reading this all night and I wasn't logged in then so I'll say this now:
You were ing born to write, stop making excuses and feel more confident in your writing because damn. This was the first Breakfast fic I've read and it's 1000x better than almost every fic I've ever read, and that's saying something. And I've never liked fics where they change POVs between ships but let me just say I'll sell my soul to keep this fic in existence. Be honored because I'm usually too lazy to actually tell authors my thoughts and holy shiet I love this story so fricking much please keep writing if it makes you happy, because you make me so happy when I'm reading this fic.

I've been marathon reading this and I'm loving it so much! Hope to see an update sometime! It would be so sad to see such a good fic go unfinished.

I'll subscribe because this fic sounds wonderful but I'm not going to read it until the author updates or something cuz i have subscriptions that haven't been updated for more than 3 years. I don't need more disappointment and sadness thank you very much even though I'm already kinda disappointed because the description sounds really good.

Well the description of the story seemed great but I'm having second thoughts about reading this fic since the author has not updated this for at least 6 months.. I really don't want cliffhangers when there's little chance of them being updated.. Hope the author comes back..

Chapter 111: Hi^^ I just want to say, I've been reading this for a while now, and I was just really disappointed that you haven't updated in awhile. :( You're okay right? You don't have to update, just wanted to know. You never mentioned anything about a hiatus??? Anyways, great story so far! Can't wait to see where it goes!

This looks so good but I'm not if I should start reading it. It looks like the author might have gone on hiatus. If I really get into it–and I do love baekyeol and long fics— I don't want to be left with a permanent cliffhanger! ???
