On Jaejin’s birthday eve, the five demons were busy with their schedule like the usual, giving a little time to breathe since their concert was nearing as well. Despite their busy schedule, the five of them managed to take turns in the surveillance, not because an enemy was spotted, but it was something far more worse than that for Jaejin; a possibility of a new love for Seol.

That evening was Seol’s date with Jun. He invited her to watch their band play at a small bar. She wasn’t sure if she could spam Jaejin with birthday greetings. She thought that a lot of fans would be doing that so it wouldn’t make much difference if she skipped that part. She was still unsure of what to do and it was Friday already.

She was already in front of her laptop though, her blog was open, waiting for her to post something. She just stared at it for a few more minutes and contemplated on what to do. Seunghyun however noticed that Seol was hesitating. Though birthdays might be a trivial matter for a demon unless it’s a 100^th birthday, he just wanted to do something for his hyung. Back in the demon world, Seol would always prepare something for their birthdays as if she had a horde of ideas for it. They may not all say it out loud but they all missed that from her.

“Adriel, time for a little push. Go see Seol now.” Seunghyun told Adriel and she happily followed.

She entered her nee-chan’s room who was rather busy picking out what to wear for tonight’s date with the human boy. This annoyed Adriel but she hid her annoyance since it would be hard to explain to her why she was annoyed.

“Oh Adriel, what do you think I should wear for tonight?” Seol said while eyeing her closet.

“Jeans and sneakers.” Adriel said out coldly and Seol immediately shot a look at her. “I’m kidding. Just wear anything you feel like wearing. Since when did you care about what to wear?”

“Only now because it’s my first time I don’t know what to do.”

“Right,” Adriel said sarcastically. “Anyway, I’ve got the tickets for FTI’s Christmas concert!” She then waved the tickets in front of her face and she completely forgot what she was doing just a minute ago.

“OH MY GOSH! WHAT SEATS DID YOU GET US?” She frantically screamed like all fans would do and Adriel couldn’t help but laugh. She could imagine the shame Seol would be facing if her memory came back. “ANSWER ME! STOP LAUGHING!” She screamed impatiently. Then there was a knock on the door, it was their mother, who was actually Seol’s head maid back in the underworld.

“Is everything all right?” She asked without opening the door.

“Hai! Gomen! We’ll keep it down now.” Seol apologized and they both waited for the footsteps to disappear. “Look what you just did. Oka-san even had to come up here.” Seol glared at Adriel and she just chuckled.

“GOT FRONT ROW TICKETS AT JAEJIN AND SEUNGHYUN’S SIDE!” She suddenly said out loud and Seol instinctly jumped up and down and screamed of happiness and hugged her sister.

“How did you get such good tickets?” She said in amazement.

“Connections.” She winked at her and Seol just kept on grinning, totally unbelieving that she would be seeing her favorite band next week.

They were in the middle of celebration when they heard someone rang the doorbell and Seol was immediately pulled back into reality.

“Oh ! He’s here and I’m still not prepared!” She hurriedly dug her closet for something to wear and it wasn’t long before their “mother” came up to her room again, completely forgetting that they were jumping up and down a while ago.

“Seol, Jun-kun is here.”

“Please tell him I’ll be there in a minute.” She shouted over while stripping and she just wore the most decent top she had since basically her closet was full of jeans. “Is my hair okay?” Seol looked at Adriel and she just nodded, totally uninterested with her date.

She went down with Seol to see for herself how that human looks like and as expected, he was no match for Jaejin. “His face cannot even compare to Jinnie’s fingernails.” She muttered under her breath but Seol heard it. She pinched her cheeks so hard and glared at her.

“It’s not always all about the looks and I told you to stop comparing ordinary people to FT Island. That’s injustice.” She whispered to her sister before going to Jun.

 “Sorry, I was taking too long.” Seol apologized to the boy in front of her but he didn’t mind for he was too captivated by her.

“It’s alright. I understand.”

“This is my younger sister, Adriel. Adriel this is Jun.” She bowed to him for respect and he did the same. Adriel was short and thin, her hair goes down her waist like Seol’s. She’s cute and all that especially when she smiles and this was noticed by Jun, amused by the fact that Seol’s family was really good looking.

“I’m Adriel, nice to meet you. Now if you’ll excuse me.” And she left just like that, showing her complete uninterest.

“What’s up with her?” Seol thought out loud.

“Is there something wrong?” Jun asked and she just shook her head.

“No it’s nothing. And I assume you met my mom already?”

“Yes, she was the one who let me in. Ready?”

She nodded and grabbed her things. “Oka-san, we’re leaving.” She called out and her head maid immediately went out to see them off.

“Be careful okay and enjoy your night. Jun-kun,” She sent an icy glare to him while Seol was looking somewhere else.

“Yes, ma’am?”                               

“Bring her home safely okay? Don’t stay out too long.”

“Ye-ees ma’am!” There was a threat in her tone and a chill ran down his spine because of her voice and her stare. Seol meanwhile was completely oblivious the entire time.

“We’re off. Oh and don’t bother to wait for me, I have my key with me.”

She waved good bye and he let out a sigh when they were finally out of her house. He felt really threatened by her mother, who happened to be very favorable of Jaejin back in the underworld.

The demons; FT Island, Sophia, Adriel and the head maid were all watching her from their own surveillance crystal ball. They were all curious of how the night would go by since they couldn’t imagine her with someone else but Jaejin. Seol going out with someone else was a new thing and worse of all; she was going out with a human.

Jun was a gentle man. He opened the door for her and gave her a good seat where she could have a good view of the band. It was a small crowd, a humble number of people for a newbie band. The opening song was okay. Their band played more of blues so it was all light and very pleasing to the ears. After the first song the vocalist introduced their band.

“The next song that we will be playing was composed by our bassist, Jun-kun.” The vocalist went on and the audience waited for his next words. “Jun-kun, why don’t you share what’s your, oh wait, my apologies, WHO is your inspiration while writing this song?” He teased his band mate and the audience cheered. Jun was waving his hands, shyly trying not to answer the question. “Oh well, Jun-kun is too shy. Here’s our next song titled, Soul.” When he said that Seol suddenly shot a look at Jun and he was looking at her. He let out a soft smile that warmed her heart and she smiled a little back.

The five demons who were watching from far away were somewhat pissed off, knowing that the human boy did something he could really be recognized for. Jaejin burned the drink he was holding and it immediately turned into ashes when he heard the title. He was plain going crazy because of jealousy at that moment. He wanted to play for her. He wrote songs about her without her knowing about it. He was singing and playing their music with Seol in his mind and heart but the difference between that human boy and him was that he couldn’t let Seol know that everything was about her. He was trying to keep himself together to continue watching this evening till the very end.

Back in the bar, the guitar went on, it was soft and soothing, soon joined the drum and bass. The melody complimented the voice of the vocalist very well, making it a very pleasing harmony for the ear, all the while, Jun was looking at her, Seol was looking at him.

Jaejin and the others continued watching Seol stare at that human boy the entire time. Each second passing was killing him. He felt threatened but there was nothing he could do about it.

“And never have I felt so alive when I found you Soul..” The last line went on like that.

She clapped together with the audience and was captivated by the sweet song that was obviously composed for and inspired by her. She was touched by the human boy, no doubt about it.

“Score.” Adriel said in a tone of giving up.

“Good one.” Sophia admitted.

The five demons back in Korea however were dumbfounded. It felt like all their efforts they made went down the drain just like that. They had to admit that the human boy was doing a good job in pleasing her. Jaejin felt his heart being shattered into pieces when she wouldn’t remove her gaze off the boy.  It was the same pair of eyes that used to look at Jaejin while whispering the words, “I love you.”

“Hyung, everything is temporary. We’ll get Seol back.” Minhwan patted his shoulders but there was nothing that could console his bitterness now.

He hated everything; the demons that were selfish for power, the power inside of Seol, the fate they had to deal with. He hated agreeing to this situation but he knew he had no choice. He had to deal with this pain just so that she could remain alive.

After the band’s live, they had dinner together. They weren’t talking much but the silence they were in was somehow comfortable. They all continued watching however, not letting any single moment pass by.

“How do you find the band?” Jun finally asked.

“You’re actually good.”

“Really? Thanks! That’s a lot coming from you. Did you like any song?”

“Hmm. I like the... second one.” She admitted but was too shy to say the title. He was pleased when she said that and he couldn’t help but let that smile on his face took place.

“I’m glad you liked that.” He said to her sweetly and she just smiled back.

The sweet air was disturbed all of a sudden when Seol’s phone rang. She knew that ringing tone was Adriel. Adriel set her tone in her phone with FT Island’s Let It Go. Jun couldn’t help but notice the song her phone just made. Seol checked Adriel’s message thinking it was something important.

“Everyone is trying to trend for Jaejin’s birthday! Where are you?” She sighed at her message and decided to give a quick reply.

“I’ll do it later. I can’t right now.”

“Is there something wrong?” Jun asked Seol but she just shook her head.

“It’s just my sister and her fangirling.” He chuckled in which she actually find it cute and peculiar at the same time. “Your sister is a fangirl of what?”

“Actually, it’s a WE.”

He was taken aback. Who would’ve thought that she would be a fangirl of a band? He continued pressing about the matter. “Really? You’re a fan of what?”

“Do you know that South Korean band FT Island?” She asked him and he was starting to think if he heard of it before but he wasn’t sure. “Do you watch Toriko?”

“Yes, why?”

“They sang the ending song.”

“Oh, that one is cool.”

“REALLY? YOU THINK SO TOO?”

“Yes.” He chuckled when he saw her getting excited. He never saw her like this before so he grabbed the chance. “Maybe you could let me borrow a CD of them when I drop by next time?”

“Sure! Gladly!” She said it so loudly that people looked at them. She immediately blushed when she noticed the attention and he couldn’t help but let out a chuckle because of her adorableness.

“You’re cute.” He couldn’t contain his amusement any longer so he said it to her.

“What?”

“You’re cute!” He pointed to her while looking at her and she couldn’t say anything but looked away and blushed.

The other demons were also disappointed that Seol decided to prioritize the human in front of her rather than greeting her boyfriend for his birthday. Of course they couldn’t blame her since she had no memory of them. Jaejin however was burning with jealousy when the boy complimented his girl and she was acting too happy about it. He was the only one who could make her shy and blush. Despite her strong personality, Jaejin was the only one that could melt Seol’s rigidness and could show her feminine side. But right now, someone else was doing that. He almost burned the curtains behind him when he suddenly burst into flames.

“I think that’s enough for you for tonight.” The prince said to Jaejin as he washed the flames off before it could spread further. He gave others the signal to grab him and they locked him inside his room, knowing his stubbornness would get ahead of him and still continue watching despite the torture it was bringing him.

“LET ME BURN THAT HUMAN! I’LL MAKE HIS LIFE A LIVING HELL!” Jaejin yelled while trying to knock out the door but Minhwan was quick enough to cast a lock spell before he was able to break it down.

“This is for your own good Jaejin!” Jonghun said to him.

“Seol is what is good for me! Give her back! GIVE HER BACK TO ME!” He continued screaming and all the others could do was hearing his screams die down to tears. “I just want her back. Is that too much to ask?” Jaejin whispered to himself while his tears were rolling down his cheeks. It was just pure torture for him to see her getting smitten by someone else.

After the two finished dinner, Jun drove Seol home like any guy would. They were actually talking more compared to a few hours ago. All thanks to music, they never ran out of things to talk about. The more he got to know her, the more he was falling for her and he knew it was too late to turn back. When they got to Seol’s place they were caught in an awkward moment on how to bid farewell.

“Oh God please don’t let him kiss her.” Seunghyun said.

“Are you that desperate? You’re a demon and yet you’re asking for a God’s help?” Hongki said, mocking the existence of Seunghyun.

“YES I AM! I DIDN’T EVEN GET TO KISS HER BEFORE!” Seunghyun whined and they all suddenly felt stupid when they found out where his reaction was coming from.

“Maybe we should lock up Hyunnie too?” Minhwan suggested and they all looked at him, considering what the youngest said.

“The date is almost over anyway, it’s too late for that.” He said and they left him alone after that.

But before anything like that could happen, Seol already said goodbye and entered the house, giving no chance for the guy to do any move. All of them were able to relax for now since the date was done and also, they were saved from breaking more bad news to Jaejin on his birthday.

When Seol got home she happily went to bed and remembered what happend just a few minutes ago. She was staring at her bedroom ceiling with blank feelings. She knew there was still something missing in her heart, she was happy, but it wasn’t complete. She tried wondering what it was for a couple of more minutes when her mind suddenly came across Jaejin’s name.

Jaejin on the other hand was busy staring at his bed room wall, analyzing, thinking of the steps he could do to fasten the process of hunting down those demons that were after Seol. He was feeling so desperate he forgot that it was his birthday. He was too busy trying to think of ways of getting Seol back without endangering her but he couldn’t think of any. Everything was just too risky.

“Jaejin, Jaejin..” Their manager called for him from the other side of the door. He was a demon assigned by the council to take care of the five demons. “I know this might be out of place to ask of you right now my lord but the fans would greatly appreciate it if you send at least a thank you message from all the messages they sent you. You also rank #1 in Japan’s trend just a few minutes ago.” He explained to Jaejin hoping he’d understand that he didn’t want to intrude. He just wanted to remind him that there were people waiting for him also since he saw how the five demons treasured their supporters a lot. He couldn’t help but remind him.

“I understand. I’ll do it right now. Thank you. You may leave now.” Jaejin replied and he tried getting enthusiastic over his spammed mentions. But before checking it out he already sent a thank you message to the fans.

It was almost 1am and his mentions were getting lesser and lesser messages. He then sent another message saying that he appreciated each and every greeting since they remembered it after scanning his mentions. Then he went back at looking at his mentions since he continued on getting messages. He was doing this so he could calm his thoughts from racing. After a few more minutes, his eyes widened in surprise when he saw Seol’s name in it.

“@saico11 Happy Birthday! I still love you the best!”

Seol’s message was short but it was enough to bring him to tears of happiness. It was like Seol was reassuring him that she was still his, that her heart still belonged to him. He cried and cried until he was exhausted. It was as if he just fought against a dozen of demon generals. He then retired to bed with tears in his eyes, with utmost longing in his heart.

“I love you Seol.” He whispered in his sleep with his hands on his phone, Seol’s message was still on it.
