Chapter 13

Fragments

The next day, Seol, Adriel, together with Bast and Diriel bid their farewell to their house. They were on their way to the airport, ready to face the reality they tried hiding from for five years. Seol’s mind was wondering if Yuki saw her message since she got no email or sms from her. She was sad that she didn’t get to say goodbye to her personally but it was better than risking her friend’s life.

When they got to the airport, there were a lot of people since there were fans that went there to see FT Island off. Seol couldn’t help but feel shy, remembering how much of a fan she was. She couldn’t say she wasn’t a fan anymore when in fact she still listens to them and she was also not going to stop anytime soon.

They were waiting for their flight when FT Island finally came and they were greeted with cheer by the fans. Seol watched from afar; amused by the fact that these five demons were very loved by humans and the fact that they love their fans as much. In the middle of watching she was suddenly grabbed by arms and was already in someone’s chest before she knew it.

“How could you leave without saying good bye to me?” That voice, she was shaken when she realized who it was. She removed herself from him gently and searched for his face, only to be greeted with sorrow filled eyes and she looked away instantly.

“I’m sorry. I know you deserve more than this.” She said to him, trying very hard to avoid his gaze.

“Why do you have to leave? “

“I have to be with my family so I have to leave. It also surprised me but I have to do this. I’m sorry.”

“What about me then?” Jun cried to her and he held her hands. “What about us?” He continued asking her in a sad tone. Seol instead looked at her hand on his and weighed the feelings she had at the moment only to realize she was definitely not feeling anything, it cannot even be compared to the way she feels when Jaejin looks at him.

“You’re a great guy Jun-kun. I was really happy with the days we spent together but,” She began saying and he just kept silent. “We have to say good bye.” When she said that, he took her into his arms and started crying. She just let him do that while patting his back, trying to comfort him at least. “You’ll find someone else and she will love you very much. I’m sure of that.”

“No! I don’t want to let you go!” His embrace got forceful and this got Seol shocked. “I’ve finally get to have you see me and look my way, there’s no way I’m going to end it like this.” He continued crying as Seol struggled to let go of him, feeling alarmed of the situation.

“Jun, I can’t breathe, let me go.” She struggled to get the words out but he wouldn’t listen to her and continued hugging her forcefully.

“No! I’m not letting you go! Stay Seol! Stay! I’ll provide you with everything; a house to live, you can even continue your studies, EVERYTHING! ANYTHING! JUST STAY!” He begged her and continued crying over his desperation.

She felt bad for him but there was nothing else she could do for him but set him free from the one-sided love that was binding him. He wouldn’t let go of her and she let him cry for a while. Adriel noticed the trouble and was about to approach them but she shook her head and Adriel instantly stopped. After he calmed down, he eventually let go of her.

“I love you Seol. I really do. I’ll do anything for you, just stay.” He still pleaded although he already felt that she was not feeling the same as him but he still tried asking. It was pathetic but he at least wanted to try.

“I’m sorry Jun. I cannot return that love.” She finally looked him in the eyes to make him understand what she meant. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry this is all I could say.” She paused feeling very guilty of the moment. She wasn’t used to breaking people’s heart directly. She rejected everyone immediately because she wanted to avoid the same exact situation she was in.

“I thought we have something.”

“I thought so too but I realized there was none. I’m sorry Jun. I’m sorry. Good bye.”

She then ran away with heavy feelings, tears in her eyes inconsciously formed. Jun was left there speechless and weakened, unable to bring his self in pulling her back again. So he stood there and watched her back disappear forever.

When they got to the plane she was still quiet, obviously sad with the sudden good bye. She plugged in her music, hoping to distract her from the feelings she was having but it turned out to be too overwhelming for the music to even suppress. She never thought it could be this heart breaking. She only saw it with the humans around her but never experienced it as far as her existent memories goes.

All this time while she was feeling sad over a loss of someone else, Jaejin was quietly looking from afar, silently taking in the jealousy he was feeling. As much as he wanted to make her remember everything about them, all he could do was wait and be patient, hope that everything would return soon. He didn’t cheer her up either; he just let her sink in her own feelings while he took in watching the girl he loves get affected by someone else.

“We will be staying here for tonight until the prince tells us that it’s okay for us to move in already.” Bast informed Seol and Adriel. “Lord Seunghyun has yet to make surveillance within 100 miles radius of the apartment we are staying in and Lord Jaejin will be intensifying the anti-demon barriers. A lot of preparations will be done tonight and they asked us to stay here for the mean time.” She explained to them.

The two just nodded and tried falling asleep instead since they got tired from the trip, not to mention the past few days had just been restless for all of them. It wasn’t long before Minhwan got to the hotel they were staying in. Adriel instantly jumped up from the bed when she felt his presence and happily skipped her way towards him.

“What are you doing here?” She asked but she was obviously happy that he was there.

“The prince sent me here. Seunghyun and Jaejin- hyung are all busy with the preparations while Hongki-hyung and the Prince are with the council right now so I’m here to look after you.” He explained as they were smiling at each other and settled their selves on the couch.

“Oh, is that so?”

“Yep.”

“Are you staying overnight then?”

“It looks like it. By the way where’s Seol?”

“She’s sleeping, or rather lying on the bed doing nothing.”

“She’s that affected by the human boy?”

“I’m not sure but it looks like it.”

“No wonder Jaejin-hyung is gloomy all day.”

“I just hope Seol gets her memory back soon. This is why I am so against this plan right from the beginning.” She complained and Minhwan just held her hand to comfort her. She leaned her head against his shoulder and just stayed quiet and felt the warmth of one another.

The next day, as soon as Jonghun told them that the preparations were over they moved in. Seol was quietly listening to her music with a blank look on her face. Adriel learned to not disturb her at times like this and all she could do was to watch her and get worried.

When the apartment door opened, they were greeted with great cheer by Hongki,Seunghyun and Jonghun while Jaejin was just throwing confetti, trying to liven up the welcome party but failing to hide his disappointment over the human. Adriel was surprised and Seol took of her right earpiece and stood there wondering what was happening.

“WELCOME BACK SEOL!” Seunghyun greeted her but she just stared at them confusedly. “Didn’t you hear what I just said? Welcome back! Now, come inside!” He smiled to her and she smiled back to him instantly. His smile was so contagious even her sadness was melted away.

When they got inside, the place was fully furnished and the food was bounty. There were only a few of them but they prepared a party fit for a noble. They were busy setting up protections and such and at the same time preparing for a celebration since they all waited for this day to come. It was only five years, too short for a demon but too long for hearts that were longing.

“What’s all of this for?” Seol asked trying to be enthusiastic about the surprise the boys did for her.

“A welcome back party noona!” Minhwan said excitedly as he searched for chicken on the table.

“But you don’t have to.”

“But we want to. So what are you waiting for let’s eat!” Seunghyun grabbed her and led her way to her seat and she stared at the food in front of her.

All of them were busy getting food and she watched them all in awe. She noticed a new face in the group sitting next to Hongki. She was very pretty but what got her the most was her blue eyes. She was putting on food at Hongki’s plate and he would be grumbling about how much food she was putting in.

“But you’re fat already anyway so why bother minding what you eat.” The girl reasoned out to Hongki and Seol couldn’t help but giggle at her.

“How many times do I have to tell you, I AM NOT FAT!” Hongki whined.

“Blah blah just eat and shut up.” Hongki gave the argument up while the girl happily chewed on her food.

“Who’s with Hongki?” Seol said to whoever was next to her and when she noticed who it was she fell into an awkward silence.

“That’s Sophia, Hongki’s fiancé.” Jaejin answered her still and she just nodded.

The two of them then started eating. Jaejin was still not over the jealousy he was feeling and Seol was sensing his cold aura and was afraid to approach him.

“What’s this? Lovers’ quarrel already? You just got back together.” Sophia noticed the air between the two and decided to pick on them and Seol just gave an awkward smile while Jaejin ignored her remark. “Ya, if you two are going to act this way the whole time of the celebration you’re just going to spoil it. Go fix your the two of you, NOW.”

Sophia waved her hand to the two of them and suddenly they were alone in a garden, everything was gone except for the chair they were sitting on. Jaejin heaved a sigh while Seol’s eyes widened in disbelief, unsure if her eyes were playing a trick on her.

“Where is this?” She asked.

“Sophia just sent us to one of her spaces. She’s known for that. She can easily send anyone to a space she created and at the same time she can make spaces within spaces. That’s their family’s legacy.” He explained to her. “And we can’t get out of here unless she feels like it. She’s a tough demon so breaking her spell won’t be easy.” Jaejin said as he tried feeling around the space, looking for any weak points but giving up when he noticed how strong it was. “WHAT THE HELL SOPHIA? YOU DON’T NEED TO CAST A LEVEL 5 SPELL! JEEZ!” Jaejin shouted to the space.

Sophia who was left with the rest just chuckled at her own doing. “I’m a genius, I tell you.” She said and all of them just shook their heads in amusement.

“What should we do then?” Seol turned to Jaejin but was still a distance away.

“I’ll try to break the spell.” He said simply.

Jaejin then started mumbling words while his right hand was raised in thin air. His eyes were closed and aura was starting to build around him. He then released energy out of his hand but only left with nothing but air. He tried another spell, when he thought it worked, Sophia was quick enough to repair the crack Jaejin made to her space.

“That was close. Damn that Jaejin for knowing so much spells.” Sophia cursed under her breath while Jaejin was in the middle of trying another spell again.

All this while Seol was only watching him cast in frustration every time he fails. When she noticed he was running out of patience, she took the courage to tug the back of his shirt. “It’s okay. You should stop now. It’s not like she will keep us here forever right?” She said to him and he calmed down. He dropped his self on the grass and stared at the artificial sky that was made by Sophia’s spell. It was bright and sunny for a demon but their five years in the human world got them used to the brightness of it at least. Seol then sat beside Jaejin and looked beyond the horizon as far as her eyes could go. He noticed her distant gaze, it was lonely and it definitely bugged him to see her that way.

“You’re feeling lonely aren’t you?” He then broke the silence while she took a while before she processed his question. She didn’t know how to answer, afraid that he might think she didn’t want to be with him if she answered yes. Jaejin let out a sigh again when he got no response. “It’s okay to feel lonely. After all, these five years, Japan was your home and you don’t have your memories back. It’s okay to feel lonely.”

She smiled at his words, happy that he understood her feelings. She turned to him and felt such longing and she couldn’t hold it anymore. “Is it really okay?” She asked her and without any response Jaejin just pulled her to him and let her head rest on his chest, making her hear his heart beat.

“Funny how you never changed one bit even though you lost your memories.” He said to her. “It’s okay. Don’t be afraid to show your true feelings to me.” He smoothed her hair and his touch instantly made her emotions came rushing in. She snuggled on to him and just listened to his heart beat, letting the sound of it, wash her loneliness away.
