Despite their above-normal abilities, the band was still practicing their songs. If it was their way of killing time or amusing themselves, only they could know. Despite the boredom they were feeling when they first came into the human world, they found mutual fascination with music among the five of them. They decided to amuse themselves by making a band while doing something important: Guarding the holder of the safety of their world.

 “Hey guys, looks like Seol found out about us”, Hongki suddenly said while looking at a crystal ball which they used for surveillance.

“What do you mean?” Jaejin panicked and the five of them gathered around the crystal ball to watch with complete anxiousness what the eldest meant by “found out”, only to realize it wasn’t something alarming. “You gave us a fright there!” Jaejin whined. “She’s only listening to our songs, that doesn’t mean she know about us already. Jeez!”

“Aren’t you alarmed? These past 5 years she didn’t even know of our existence and now it looks like she became our fan.” Hongki argued while pointing out to the image in the crystal ball; a girl was inside her room, engrossed on the music while at the same time taking researching about the band she was listening to.

“She’ll find out one day anyway, it’s not as if this entire her-not-knowing-about-us-when-she-actually-does thing is forever.” Seunghyun reasoned out.

“I think it’s actually better that she knows us even though it’s this way.” Minhwan suddenly spoke and everyone waited for his next words and this made him pressured. “Well, at least when the day we get her comes, she won’t be scared and won’t mistake us as some evil people.”

“But we are demons.” Seunghyun pointed out a fact.

Yes, that’s what their true natures are; demons. They ascended to the human world in order to protect that girl who happened to possess some destructive power that other demons want for themselves. At the same time she happened to be someone close to them so it was never easy for the five of them to watch her from afar while she didn’t know a thing about them.

“I think Minhwan has a point. Let’s just let her be.” Jonghun dismissed the discussion and the four didn’t argue further. “And besides, we haven’t seen her smile like that in a while.” He pointed out to the face of the smiling girl on the crystal ball. They all couldn’t help but smile with her too. Ever since she came to the human world and lost contact with the five of them, it was as if life had left her body; a body without a soul. Funny how her name sounds like soul but she was completely unable to feel any possible emotion. She would smile but it would be a fake one. They continued watching her enjoying the music they made as a curve formed in her lips. In the middle of it all the door opened and a messenger from the underworld stepped in. He was wearing a black hood to conceal his face. On his shoulder was a black crow whose eyes were red and its feathers and beak were as black as that of a shadow.

“Ahh.. this is rare. What brings the messenger of the underworld here in the human world?” Jonghun called out for him and the messenger instantly kneeled down when he entered the room. He kept his head low as to respect the higher demons in front of him and after all, one of them was the son of the demon King.

“My Prince, I came here to deliver a message from the council.” The messenger stated his purpose of visit.

“The council?” Hongki couldn’t help but repeat it since the council was a group of old powerful demons who manage the underworld.

“This is surprising. What is the message? Tell me in haste for we have not much time left.” Ordered by the demon Prince, he immediately stood up and snapped his fingers and the crow on his shoulders vanished, leaving a feather or two behind as it changed into a scroll.

“My Prince, We are here to inform you that the council was able to divert the enemy’s path away from the keeper. The council will continue to support this fake lead that will eventually help us find out the leaders behind this outrage of power. This will keep them occupied for 6 months or a year if everything goes by plan. The keeper is safe for the mean time. Also, we request the presence of the Prince and the nobles back in the demon world for the King has found a new bride and the ceremony will take place on the 13^th. We are looking forward to your attendance. An absence will result to deportation back to the underworld.” When the final words were said, the scroll yet again returned to being a crow and went back on the messenger’s shoulder.

“The King didn’t even change one bit huh.” Hongki chuckled and so did the others. Jonghun just shook his head.

“Another bride, how many does that old ert plans to keep?” Jonghun complained about his father like any other kid would do.

“Oh come on, we all know you’re going to be like that too.” Seunghyun teased the Prince, earning him a slap, but it didn’t stop them from laughing.

“Why am I with you again?” The Prince, yet again, shook his head for the absurdity of his companion. “Anyway, it looks like we have no choice but to attend the old ert’s ceremony.”

“It does look like it. At least we can relax a bit since for 6 months or so nothing will happen to Seol. Might as well show up in the underworld and not get the council furious at us.” Jaejin said to them.

“No wonder the council has their eyes on you! You’re so obedient!” Hongki ruffled the younger demon’s hair and all of them just chuckled. He then turned to the messenger and said, “Well I guess you can go back now and tell them we’re coming.”

“As like the duke said, we will be going on the 13^th. You can take your leave.” Jonghun said in full authority and the messenger took its final bow and disappeared when his crow flapped its wings.

“Why didn’t he come in like that earlier if he can do that?” Minhwan asked.

“I strengthened the anti-demon barrier in the dorm so that all demons that wished to pass will have to pass the gate first and once they are granted access, they can fully use their abilities.” Jaejin explained.

“What for?”

“Precaution.”

“Precaution? Do we need that?”

“You have too many questions Minhwan.” Jaejin sighed in defeat.

“Basically, it’s to stop the King’s guards from coming here. The prince ordered it.” Seunghyun pointed out to Jonghun and Minhwan just nodded.

“He’s getting more and more persistent in taking me back the underworld these past few months.” Jonghun said in irritation.

“Who would’ve thought that the King is actually a doting father?” Hongki teased the Prince.

“Shut up Lee Hongki. I am still your Prince. ” The Prince retorted back, using his authority, hoping that would make the rest stop picking on him.

“You know hyung wants to win the argument so badly when he uses his title.” Seunghyun joined in the teasing.

“I shall leave you morons in your idiotic conversation.” Jonghun stood up and fixed himself in the mirror. “I have a date to attend to.” He was about to leave when he noticed the worried face of Jaejin. This stopped him to ask for the worry of his friend. “Something wrong Jaejin?”

“Well, the words of the messenger just bothered me.” He began saying and the rest of them finally realized the big point they missed out since they got preoccupied with the king’s new bride.

“Well, didn’t they say that she’s safe for 6 months or a year? What’s to worry about?” Seunghyun said.

 “But don’t you think the enemies are that easily fooled? I mean, we’re pretty known around this part of the globe, what makes you think that they didn’t send someone to check the human world?” Jaejin explained his worries.

“It’s not easy to come here Jaejin. Everyone who comes in and out of the human world from the underworld is monitored. Don’t underestimate the royal guards.” Jonghun said a bit offended since he personally handled the surveillance of the gate between the two worlds.

“My apologies, your highness.” It was instinct for them to suddenly talk formally when Jonghun’s tone changed from plain friendly to full authority.

“That’s okay. I understand your worries. I’ll double the surveillance in the gate and I’ll be stricter.” He patted his friend’s shoulders and he smiled at him.

“Thank you.”

“Very well, I shall take my leave. It’s not good manners to keep the lady waiting.”

All four of them just shook their heads to their prince, who was in no doubt very much alike his father.
