Friendship is Love

(FLASHBACK cont.-still part of the letter)

(A few days later)

 Donghae's POV

I reached my literature class a bit too early since my previous class was only a few doors over. So, I sat down in my usual seat and put my head on the desk. After a few minutes I finally heard the bell ring, and the other students came rushing into the classroom. Quickly I put a few books on the desk behind me to save Jessica's seat for her. She was always a little late to this class.

I began to stretch and pulled my arms above my head. Yoona walked in and stole a quick glance at me. I grinned as I watched her sit down next to Jessica's seat behind me. I turned back around toward the front of the room and relaxed in my seat again to wait for class to begin.

Suddenly Jessica rushed into the room huffing for air. She walked in just in time as the final bell rang. She heaved a sigh of relief and walked toward the seat I saved for her. She smiled at me and mouthed "thanks". I grinned and shook my head at her.

"Do you always have to stop at your locker after your last class? You barely make it here every day." I questioned her. Her hair was a mess from rushing here and Yoona was helping her fix it.

"Yes I do. I can't always have my best friend there to carry my heavy books for me," she retorted with a sweet smile. Seeing her smile I looked down at the floor and smiled. For some reason I felt like something between me and Sica changed recently. We were stiil the same old best friends, but there was something different. I'd been brushing it off as nothing since the new feeling kind of felt good.

"I knew you were hopelessly lost without me," I laughed.

"Oh please. Control your ego. If anything you're the one who needs me." Jessica joked. She rolled her eyes and then before I could say anything back to her she quickly pointed to the front of the room. I turned around and saw the teacher, Mrs. Kim, walking in. She was at least in her mid-forties and she wore reading glasses that sat on the tip of her nose. She may seem strict at first, but I had actually come to like her class. It was one of the classes in which I wasn't actually completely bored to death.

"Okay class please turn around in your seats. It's time to start," the teacher began. Her heels clicked against the floor in the silence as she walked behind her desk. She began scribbling something on the board.

Yoona's POV

While I listened to Donghae and Jessica's conversation I couldn't help but feel a little jealous. Whenever Jessica was around, Donghae didn't seem to notice me. I knew how bad that sounded, but I couldn't help the feelings. I liked the attention. When he had smiled at me as I had entered the room my heart had fluttered like crazy. I realized this was going to have to change. I told myself that there was only a physical attraction between me and Donghae which was understandable. After all he was pretty good looking. However, the last thing I wanted to do was actually fall for him.

Mrs. Kim began to talk, so I snapped back to reality and started to pay attention. When she announced what we were going to be learning today I heard a groan from Jessica next to me and I giggled at her reaction. I looked at Donghae to see if he was unhappy as well, but I couldn't tell much from the back of his head.

"Class, today we will be starting Shakepeare's Romeo and Juliet"

Donghae's POV

When it was announced that we were starting Shakespeare I immediately knew where the loudest groan came from. I chuckled as I thought how pissed Jessica must be. Shakespeare was her greatest weakness since she couldn't understand anything he wrote at all. It was one of the only things I was a little better at than her when it came to school. I personally didn't mind reading some of the classics. I had trouble understanding them sometimes, but there was something I liked about characters like Romeo and Hamlet. Yeah they were both kind of crazy and their luck , but they had some heroic quality to them that I liked. Plus girls seemed to fall all over them- kind of like how they did for me (haha).

"Anyways, I know many of you have already read Romeo and Juliet, but we will be going into it with much more depth. To begin, I would like to ask you all a very important question." Here the professor paused as she looked around the room at the students.

"Jessica?" Mrs. Kim was looking behind me. I turned my head to look at Sica who was busy playing with a rubber band.

"Huh?" Jessica was startled out of her own little world and accidentaly snapped the rubber band against her own hand. I tired hard to hold back my laughter. It was a rare event to see Jessica get caught by the teacher,

"What is love?" Mrs. Kim asked. Jessica was rubbing her hand and had pulled the rubber band around her wrist. She looked really embarassed and confused. Obviously innocent little Jessica coudn't answer the question. I didn't even think she had ever had a boyfriend before, and for some reason this pleased me.

"Um love? Well...I mean...it's...um" Jessica was clearly flustered in finding an answer, so Mrs. Kim turned to Yoona.

"Ms. Im, can you tell us what love is?" Yoona seemed surprised as well and shook her head as she blushed. I smiled at how cute both Yoona and Jessica were.

Mrs. Kim sighed. "Seriously? Neither of you could descibe love? Maybe you two are too shy." Now the teacher looked at me and said, "Well then, Donghae could you help your friends out? From what I've heard you seem to be quite experianced in the area."

I had already had a feeling that she was going to come to me next. I was a little miffed that all anybody seemed to know me as was the school playboy, but I answered anyway.

"Friendship is love," I answered. Although Mrs. Kim seemed satisfied with the answer, she prodded me for more.

"Friendship is what starts love and keeps love alive. It changes how you see the world and the people around you. In fact I think friendship is even more important than love. Without it there could be no love to begin with." As I spoke I couldn't help but think of Jessica. Yeah, Jessica was my best friend. She kept me grounded. I chased after girls all the time, but never had I ever thought of messing with Jessica the same way. There was something about her that made it impossible for me to even consider thinking about playing around with her. She was meant for more than that.

"Very good Hae." Mrs. Kim smiled at me. "Friendship is love. What a refreshing idea." I smiled back at her and went back to my thoughts. How did I really feel about Jessica? Then, I realized there was one more complication to my feelings. How did I feel about Yoona?

Yoona's POV

When I heard Donghae answer the question my heart was soaring. I couldn't deny it any longer. Yes, I was in love with Lee Donghae and it was much more than just a crush. He had become one of my closest friends here, and I had truely started to care for him. I didn't care anymore that he was a flirt. If he loved for me enough, I knew he would be the best boyfriend. All I had to do now was accept him since had been showing an interest in me already. I gulped and took a deep breath as I thought these things over. Oh my gosh- I think I was actually in love.

Jessica's POV

As I heard Donghae answer the question my cheeks started to burn. For some reason I felt like the answer was directed to me. Could he be talking about me? After all I was his best friend. Maybe it was our friendship that he was describing. Wait, no, no, no, no, no. Lee Donghae was a friend and nothing else. Yet, why was my heart beating so fast, and why did I feel so confused. I stared at the back of Donghae's head as I thought these things over. I rested my forehead on my desk and closed my eyes. Lee Donghae what did you do to me?
