The Journey

Chapter One-

She knew it was a dream because it couldn’t be anything else, but it was too realistic.

The way her eyes looked around in confusion before finally landing on the man in front of her. Her body was suddenly overcome with fear, however her mind remained blank. The man came closer with a smirk appearing on his face as he raised his arms. She didn’t move, she didn’t realize what was happening until the man’s hands wrapped around her neck. She couldn’t think, she couldn’t see, she couldn’t brea-

*Gasp*

Kami shot up in her bed gasping for air. Sweat was dripping down her forehead although her shoulders were freezing from suddenly having the dingy comforter ripped down. She looked around her small room, straining her eyes to try and see in the dark. There’s no man. Kami thought to herself. There’s no man here. No need to be afraid, there’s no m-

“Psst.”

“Ahh-“ she started to scream but was cut off by a hand being placed over . Her eyes widened but she slowly calmed down as she looked into a pair of dark brown, concerned eyes. The hand slowly came off when the man in front of her was sure that she wasn’t going to scream again. “Oppa!” Kami hissed quietly.

The man in front of her smirked although his eyes still shown concern. The man was Kai, Kami’s older half-brother, and the only one from her “family” that cared about her.

Kami’s father had cheated on his wife with her mother, and before she was even born her father’s side of the family hated her. It wasn’t even her fault, though they treated her like it was. Kami never really saw her dad’s side of the family while growing up and was raised mainly by her mother since her father had died shortly after she was born. However, when Kami was thirteen and her mother died, she was forced to move in with her other side of her family. She used to love the number thirteen and had thought of it as her lucky number, but now she hated it. What more, she hated the people she was stuck living with. They consisted of her step-mother, who was her father’s actual wife, her uncle, who was her step-mother’s brother, and Kai, the only child that her father had with his wife. While her step-mother and uncle hated her guts and had given her the hand-me-downs for the last five years of her life, as well as the smallest possible room in the house, Kai had treated her like an actual little sister. He always took care of her, and Kami really thought of him as her oppa.

Though she could never call him that in front of the family. She had to call him Kai-sshi.

“I came in here because I was worried about you,” Kai whispered to her. “I could hear you whimpering in your sleep. Were you having that dream again?”

Kami nodded her head in embarrassment. She had been having the same nightmare for a little over a week straight and every night Kai would sneak into her bedroom to comfort her. He always knew when she was having the nightmare since his room has right next to her’s.

Kai sighed and pushed Kami back down onto the bed, pulling up to comforter to cover her bare shoulders. He lied down on top of the comforter n
