The Fall - Leo
In Search of Meaning"You can't leave me like this." Hakyeon choked out between sobs, and Leo's heart broke upon hearing these words.
Leo felt his fingers slipping from Hakyeon's vise-like grip, and his own arms were too tired from holding onto the edge for so long, preventing him from making any effort to climb up. He knew there was no hope, but what filled his mind at the moment was not the impending fall. All he could see was Hakyeon's tear-soaked face, and all he could hear were the words he just said. 'You can't leave me'.
I would never leave you, Leo realized as he felt Hakyeon's warm tears fall onto his cheeks.
Looking into the vet's watery eyes, Leo thought back to the night he first saw him in the animal clinic. He remembers how frightened Hakyeon was, but he also remembers the calm and strong determination he exhibited when he helped Hyuk that same night. Leo couldn't help but imagine the vet doing the same for him. When he found him lying alone, wounded, and dying, on the forest floor, Hakyeon was probably just as determined to save him as he was when he saved the maknae.
The wolf man then thought about how Hakyeon gave him a warm bed to sleep in every night, and home cooked meals to eat every day. Hakyeon welcomed him into his house, and cared for him when he was ill. Leo thought about the times he and Hakyeon spent arguing over the TV remote, and the content smiles they shared when they happened to look at each other at the same time. For the first time in his life, Leo understood what home was. Home wasn't just a place; home was made up of people he cared about. To Leo, those people were: Hyuk, Wonsik, Jaehwan, Hongbin, and, the most important person of all.... Hakyeon.
'You can't leave me,' Hakyeon's words echoed for the last time in Leo's ears.
How could I leave you? Leo thought in the millisecond of silence before he responded to Hakyeon. After everything you've done for me, and after all the things we've been through together.... After seeing the darkest and brightest sides of me, and giving me the home I longed for all my life.... I don't care if there's a chance that I might hurt you or the others. I don't care if I'm a monster or not. There's no way I'd leave you. Not ever!
"I'd never leave you," Leo softly voiced his thoughts to the vet before he felt gravity rip him from Hakyeon's grasp.
He felt himself fall as air rushed past him, pulling at his clothes and violently ripping his hat off to leave his wolf ears exposed to the element. The whistle of the wind filled his ears, and all Leo could see was the building passing by him in a blur of grey. However, he wasn't paying attention to these things.
I'd never leave you, Hakyeon. Leo th
