No way in ing hell

Fancy Meeting You Here

“We’re IAI agents… I’m sure we’ll find a way to get those 3 girls to acc-” Haneul suddenly cut off her talking when he sensed a presence coming down the hallway. “Someone’s coming.” She said as she and Hwayoung both moved away from the door and were ready to attack.

“Nam Hee appa!” Haneul heard a boisterous boy who looked about either her age or younger shout as she burst open the door. “We-… Who are these girls?” He said as he blinked and another 6 boys came into the room, with Soohyun from before coming in last. Haneul and Hwayoung both quickly recognised them as all the U-Kiss boys, with the boisterous young one being the Maknae Dongho. Haneul just rolled her eyes at the boisterousness of the maknae and looked away into the corner of the room and hummed a tune of a song she was composing at the time to herself.

“These girls are Jang Haneul and Lee Hwayoung.” Soohyun replied with a polite smile at Haneul, “They came here because they said they had business with our appa Nam Hee…” He paused, then looked apologetically at Haneul and then turned back to Dongho and scolded him, “I told you there were people in here and you were not to disturb appa and these girls’ conversation!” He said and whacked the younger boy’s head.

“Wah… Hyung!” He whinged, “There were pretty girls in here and you told me not to come in? How mean!” He said and pouted at the older male. Soohyun simply chuckled, sighed and patted Dongho’s head. “Anyway! How do you do! My name’s-” Dongho was cut off as he reached his hand out in offering to Haneul.

“Shin Dongho. We know.” Haneul replied coldly, “Anyway. Continue what you were saying to ‘Appa Nam Hee’,” She said almost mockingly, “We don’t mind at all that you disrupted or conversation. Continue.”

Dongho seemed to shiver at Haneul’s coldness and looked slightly scared, “Ah… Mianhe… But I’m your oppa so you shouldn’t talk to oppa in that tone… Correct?” He said and then blinked as he realised he didn’t know how old Haneul was.

“No. I’m your noona. I was born in 1993, and you, 1994. Therefore you should be the one respecting me. Anyway, I seriously don’t mind, so continue talking.” She said as she softened slightly and sighed.

“Well…” Dongho said, then cautiously continued, “Appa, you know how you said since we’re getting more successful now you have enough money to find us a dorm? Well the landlady of the place we inquired about accepted!” He said excitedly, forgetting his initial anxiousness towards Haneul word by word.

“Really?” Kim Nam Hee said gently at the young boy, “That’s good! You boys didn’t find a place too expensive, did you?” He said as he narrowed his eyes suspiciously at the maknae.

“No!” Dongho said and pouted, “Soohyun hyung wouldn’t let us get a luxury penthouse!” He complained and whined.

“Good thing he did too!” Kim Nam Hee said and laughed, “Anyways, boys please leave and I’ll continue my conversation with the two young ladies here. Off you go!”

Dongho quickly left an envelope on the President’s desk and ran out quickly. Haneul looked up at the boys who were leaving slowly and inspected them one by one. Her eyes landed on the skinniest one with the pretty face whom she knew as ‘Woo Sunghyun’ or ‘Kevin Woo’, and her eyes travelled up to his face and she noticed him looking at her too. She felt something strange in the air. He seemed to be inspecting her too. After he left, she made a mental note to take note of him from then on.

“Right. Let’s continue with what we were talking about before now.” Kim Nam Hee began talking the moment the door was closed, “As I was s-” He was cut off by Haneul who held a finger to her lips to silence him. She pointed at the door and just rolled her eyes. He understood the message immediately. “Shin Dongho you’d better get away from my door and stop eavesdropping this very moment!” He heard a yelp and a clamour of someone running away then when Haneul gestured the coast was clear, he continued, “Well. As I was saying before you alerted me to an eavesdropping Dongho,” He paused to chuckle at the maknae’s silliness, “The three girls aren’t very accepting of newcomers, and they may dislike the two of you even more because you girls don’t have to go through years of training like them.” He then paused, then continued again, “Well okay. One of them is okay, but the other two will probably be extremely harsh.”

“Ah, it’s fine.” Hwayoung answered for Haneul who seemed too lazy at the moment to answer, “Anyway, do we get a dorm or whatever? And what’s the name of the group?” She added almost excitedly. Kim Nam Hee laughed.

“Look, I haven’t finalised the details.” He said as he opened the envelope Dongho left on his desk to read it, “But I will finalise all the details soon.” He scanned through the letter, “Oh. And… If you girls were to have a dorm then I’d give you girls a dorm next door to the boys.”

“Why?” Haneul said in a relaxed voice, “Because you get a discount?”

“Well. Yes.” He said, then nervously chuckled, “The two dorms next door to each other are the same size though. And there’ll only be 5 of you girls, so it’ll actually be rather comfortable, in my opinion. Now,” he began, “I believe you girls should greet the three girls that will be in a group with you girls after all three of them have a break time and come in after their university lessons. I believe that would be at 5 in the afternoon or so. They’ll probably be here from 5 to 9 at night.” He nodded to himself then seemed to realise something. “Don’t you girls attend university or something?”

Hwayoung shook her head and as did Haneul, although Haneul did add something to the end. “Already been there, done that. I’ve already got a double degree. Earned them when I was 13.” She said as she seemed to check on her nails. “Medicine for obvious reasons, and business for certain disguises.” She said.

He chuckled at how relaxed she was about it all, while Hwayoung couldn’t help but smile at Haneul. Few people would be able to earn a double degree at the age of 13 and not brag about it, but rather call the courses boring. Kim Nam Hee wondered to himself what other kind of talents Haneul had, but instead of asking just spoke up and said, “Well that’s good that you have not one, but two degrees already.” He said, then started mumbling to himself what Haneul guessed was plans for the two of them in the future.

“Oh. One last thing.” Haneul said.

“Yes?” He asked.

“We probably won’t be idols forever. Only a short period of time.”

He seemed to look slightly crestfallen. “Oh.” He replied disappointedly, “I had great plans for you guys…” He rubbed his head, “Oh well… I’ll think about this later then. I really don’t want a situation like the one with Kibum and Alexander again… Anyway, the two of you can do whatever you like for the rest of the day, but please come back at 5.”

“Alright…” Haneul said slowly, nodded and thanked him for his time as she opened the door so as to seem normal, then walked out with Hwayoung.

------------

“Um... Jang Haneul?”

“Hai?” She asked, suddenly replying in Japanese and looked up from a monthly computer magazine’s issue from 4 months ago’s article on photoshop techniques while she sipped calmly on an ice coffee.

Hwayoung simply raised an eyebrow, but went along with the flow and spoke back in Japanese, “It is currently 4:35.”

“Yes. Well it was at the time you said it just then, but right now it’s 4:36.” She said and nodded.

“We’re supposed to be at the NH Media Office building by 5.”

“Yes, yes we are.” Haneul nodded and returned back to her magazine.

Hwayoung sighed. “I would like to remind you that it takes us 45 minutes by car to reach there, and looking at the traffic right now it’ll take us more than 1 hour. We should have left at least half an hour ago to guarantee we are on time.”

“Aigoo…” Haneul sighed, “Stop being such an organisation monster.”

“What?”

“We’ll get there in time if we leave… Now.” Haneul said as she sipped the remains of her ice coffe and got up from her 18th century couch (Hwayoung checked later. It actually is from the 18th century.) to throw her empty bottle away. She headed towards the door, then paused to look back at Hwayoung. “Hello? Miss Organised? Are you coming or not?” Haneul said with a small smile as she headed out the door holding a large, suspicious looking duffel bag in her right hand.

The two of them soon got in the car. Hwayoung worriedly looked at Haneul, “I hardly think we’ll be able to get there by 5. It is currently 4:39!” She said in an almost exasperated voice, “And if we want the assistance of President Kim we should be punctual and not make him wait!”

“Oh come on, Hwayoung! We’re not going to get there in 21 minutes, of course we aren’t!”

Hwayoung’s eyeballs almost bulged out of their sockets, “What?!” She shouted.

“Nope. Not 21. We’re going to get here in…” Haneul closed her eyes to do some mental arithmetic, “In 17 minutes.” She smiled at Hwayoung widely, then leaned in to the driver and whispered something in his ear, sat back down, buckled up and the car suddenly seemed to fly forwards.

“What’s happening!” Haneul heard Hwayoung ask as she saw Hwayoung grip onto the side of the car with her right hand tightly and her left hand attempting to quickly buckle herself up.

-------------

“That. Was the worst car ride ever.” Hwayoung said, looking extremely pale as she stumbled off the car.

“Nah. Rather, I think it was fun.” Haneul said excitedly, “I’d always been looking for an excuse to try that and being late for an important meeting was just the perfect opportunity!” She laughed.

Hwayoung shook her head at Haneul with disgust, “You stupid girl.” She said as she walked with attempted stable steps towards the front of the building. To their (terrible) luck it was the same guard as before, and he seemed extremely grumpy by now.

“Hey Mr Kang, was it?” Haneul chirped in a friendly voice to him, and attempted to move past him, but he blocked her.

“Nuh-uh, girl. You ain’t getting in this time!” He snarled at her menacingly. Haneul looked at him with a blank face, then an evil smile etched its way onto her face.

“You’re starting to annoy me now, baldy. You think you’re all that?” She said coldly and tutted at the man as she raised one elegant finger and waved it about in front of his face. Hwayoung snapped out of her car sickness as she realised what Haneul was about to do.

“Uh… Haneul… Stop… I know what you plan to do… Don’t, oka-” She paused when she saw Haneul speedily jab the finger into the security guard’s neck, pressing sharply on a pressure point. He soon fell to the floor and Haneul picked him up and carried the large man to a corner of the room. She left him there, sitting with his back against the floor and walked into the building to President Kim’s office. She sharply rapt her knuckles against the door and walked in when she heard the familiar voice of the President inviting her in. All this time, Hwayoung, as usual, was just obediently following.

“Ah. Miss Lee and Miss Jang!” He said in a welcoming voice.

“Please, call us Hwayoung and Haneul. No need for the formalities like that.” Hwayoung said and smiled and bowed to her elder, “We’re going to be working under you now after all, aren’t we?”

“Well, yes.” He chuckled, “Anyway, I’ve already told the girls that I’ll introduce them to some people they’ll have to work with from now on, and I’ve informed them of my decision to place them in the first girl group under NH Media already. Boy, are they excited!” He chuckled again. Haneul raised an eyebrow at him and wondered why he chuckled so much, “Anyway. Come along with me. They are in a practise room practising dance routines together. You’ll see what I mean by the fact they’re not very accepting of newcomers.”

The two girls followed Kim Nam Hee into a large room with wooden panelling and mirrors covering all four walls. The two girls immediately saw three sweaty girls that all looked older than Haneul dancing along to a heavy beat. The three girl stopped when they noticed their president walking into the room and just bowed respectfully. “Ahhh… Girls, that was good!” Kim Nam Hee chuckled, “You could’ve continued though! Don’t mind me! Oh well… Now that you girls have stopped anyway, I’ll introduce you to two new girls you girls will be working with from now on. Please meet Jang Haneul and Lee Hwayoung!” He said, and stepped aside to reveal the two girls who had stood in a good position to be hidden from the other three girls, even though there were mirrors on all four walls.

“Ah! President-nim!” The visibly shortest and youngest looking one greeted then said “These girls look young! What will they be doing for us? Will they be writing the songs? But still… They look so young… Ah! Are they prodigies that could write awesome songs even when they were really young or something? Wahhhhhh!!!” The girl excitedly clapped to herself, “Awesome! Nice to meet you girls! What are your names?”

The president chuckled to himself at Haneul and Hwayoung’s faces full of an emotion called ‘WTF’. “No, they’re not song writers, Eun Ae. You’re getting excited all by yourself. Look at Hye Su and Soo Jin. They don’t look half as excited as you.” The said Hye Su and Soo Jin (Haneul and Hwayoung still didn’t know which was which yet) seemed extremely subdued and seemed to be analysing them, as Haneul and Hwayoung were doing back.

“Wah! Are they stylists then! Oh! Are you guys stylist unnies that somehow never seem to age so you look young! Is that it?” Eun Ae continued to ask excitedly.

“No. I’m sorry to disappoint.” Haneul answered evenly, “But neither of us are here to work with you on anything like that. Mr President, why don’t you tell them what we’re actually here for?”

“Alright then.” He said as he turned to the three girls, “Remember how I said you girls are going to debut in a group in about 2 months?” He paused and gave all three girls time to nod eagerly, “Well I never told you how many girls there were going to be in the group did I…?” They shook their heads all in sync. “Well… You have 5 members…” He gave them time to do the maths, and the most mature looking one who was in the middle in terms of height seemed to make the realisation first.

“So you’re saying…?” She started and saw the president eagerly nod his head.

“No.” The tallest one with sharp eyes suddenly spoke up, startling everyone. “No way in ing hell.”
