EQUAL

[Tae Bi's POV]

                I never knew basketball was a nice game after all. Last night was one of the best nights in my whole lifetime. I met new friends, learned how to play basketball with legal rules, and got treated free snacks. Suga’s team lost to ours despite his high confidence in winning the game, so they bought my team assorted-flavored mini donuts. We concluded our bonding with a lot of picture-taking, compliments, and hugs. Everyone is friendly; no one gave me critical looks because of my relationship with Suga. The fans are so warm towards me. In fact, most of them mentioned congratulatory messages. Suga’s right. I have nothing to worry about as long as I’m with him.

                After packing all our stuffs, we checked out the hotel and walked to parking area. I promise myself to come back here soon and look back to the happy days we spent here.

                “Wear this,” Suga hands me a black aviator sunglasses. It’s from Rayban. He also wears his own shades that is identical to mine.

                “A couple item?” I ask, though I already know the answer. I just realized that Suga likes couple items; our puzzle-piece necklace, PJs, and now, these glasses. I should also buy couple hats for us someday.

                “It’s going to be hot later when we get to Seoul,” he says as he puts our bags in his car’s compartment. I tried to help but he told me to get in the car instead.

                Once he’s done with the bags, we put our seatbelts on and drive out of Hivice’s building. The sky is clear blue but I wonder why there are no clouds.

                We left Ansan as peacefully as we arrived there four days ago. No paparazzis and commotion happened, well except for the morning news we watched before about the forming crowd in front of Big Hit. Besides that, nothing and no one harmed us during our Ansan stay. Suga’s fans are all friendly to me so to summarize my insights on our short vacation, I am happy and thankful. Happy, because I got to know Min Yoon Gi more and felt his genuine love for me. Rap is not his specialty, it is love. I’m grateful to Suga because he mended my broken heart. I could no longer feel sorrow because of him. Four days seemed like a year to me because Yoon Gi and I are so comfortable with each other already. Definitely because of our special relationship, we treat one another like family. I’m more than thankful for having him, not just as the one who caught me from depression, but as the one who provided me the essence of a family.

                “Are you hungry?” Suga speaks, breaking the silence inside the car.

                I shake my head. “Are you?”

                He shakes his head, too. “I’m fine. Just tell me if you’re hungry. We could stop by a restaurant.”

                “Okay,” I respond. It’s going to be a long drive so I let him focus on the road. I borrow his camera to see our photos taken at the beach. It surprises me because the gallery is almost packed with my pictures. Most are candid shots and a few from those candid shots I look awfully ugly. “I never knew you’re a terrible photographer.” I murmur to Suga. Of course, he heard it because I’m just sitting beside him.

                “I beg to disagree,” he smiles. He knows I’m looking at my own pictures on his cam. “All your snapshots there are my masterpiece. It’s offending to hear criticisms about my shots you know.” He pouts like a kid. Whenever he does that, I feel a bit old because he looks younger than me though he’s two years older. Well, it’s not a big deal for me. What I really care about right now is when he told me that my pictures are a masterpiece.

                “Alright. I’m guilty for saying that,” I raise my hands then give him a peck. He shrugs and glances at me. I remain quiet on my seat as if nothing happened.

                “Hey,” he pokes my shoulder and I raise an eyebrow. “Why on my cheek only?” he asks, and keeps on pouting his lips. Silly child. He wants me to kiss him on the lips.

                “Just drive, Min Yoon Gi. I’ll give you more once we get to Seoul safely,” I giggle and look back to his gallery.

                He pats my head, making me look like the kid now. “You sound so y. I like that.”

                We both chuckle to our own jokes and cheesy compliments. When I check his cam for the third time, I find a new set of photos taken at Namsan Park. The stunning tower of Namsan, random people at the park, food booths, children playing, and couples. I suddenly remember my stall and my pancakes.

                “Why di-”

                I pause from asking him the reason why he took those photos when I spot my own pictures selling pancakes and smiling at my customers. There’s also a photo of me beaming brightly in front of the camera while Namsan Tower’s behind me. I remember the day it was taken. Brown’s the one who took it because she, he, asked me to. I didn’t know it was Suga who’s inside that mascot, taking pictures of me.

                “You took all these?” I ask him, although the answer is very obvious. He stops the car because of the red light ahead, then he takes the camera to look at my pictures. I couldn’t help but admire his smile as he stares at my photograph.

                “Of course. I took this when I was wearing Brown’s costume. You remember that day?” he asks me.

                “Very clearly,” I nod and take back his camera when the stoplight turns to green. “The day we first met. I remember all of it. You’re in Brown’s costume that time and you gave me a white plastic bag containing bottled water and tasty sandwiches. You’re so cute and thoughtful back then. Even now.” I giggle because of what I’ve said. I tried to make it sound cute, but it turned out plain. I don’t know why but I think it’s because I continue reminiscing the days I spent with Sugar. Those memorable gleeful days.

                Meanwhile, Suga starts to chuckle without looking at me. Did I say something wrong? Or funny? I’m so sure of what I’ve said. That’s exactly what happened during the first day I met Sugar. I look outside to check if there’s something funny on the road or streets. But there’s none. It’s a typical traffic and cautious drivers around.

                “Why are you laughing?” I finally ask, putting down his camera on my lap.

                He shakes his head but he’s still giggling. “Because you’re so beautiful.”

                I slap his shoulder lightly because I know that’s not the reason behind his sudden laugh. “What is it? Hmm?”

                He’s so quick at giving up on me. “You’re so innocent and slow. How could you not notice that Sugar is actually Suga?”

                “So my innocence and stupidity are funny to you?” I try to sound like mad, but we both know that we’re just kidding to each other. And I’m enjoying it.

                “I never mentioned stupidity,” he pinches my cheek and I smile slightly. “I find your innocence an adornment to your beauty. There’s no problem with that. In fact, I enjoyed watching your innocence when we used to hangout at Namsan.”

                “I feel my ears turning red right now,” I suddenly laugh and Suga joins me. He keeps on pinching my cheek and then my chin as he drives the car. See? Who’s not going to be crazy in love with this guy? He looks furious once he touches a mic, but he’s an angel in reality. This is my first time experiencing a true love. He is real. I couldn’t find a speck of betrayal in his words and actions toward me. It all comes with sincerity and love. I hope I’m also like this to him. I couldn’t monitor my own because all I think of whenever we’re together is the happiness I receive, not the happiness I provide. I want us to be equal.

                “How about Sugar’s letters? Do you still remember it?” he takes me back to my senses, thankfully. Sugar’s letters are all left in my unit and thinking of it makes me sad and worried at the same time. I have to go back there and get all my things secretly so that I won’t be seen by Peter or Charmaine.

                “Your letters are in my unit,” I say, and he just nods. The ambience is not as light anymore. “But don’t worry, all your messages are always kept here.” I put my hands over my heart and smile. Of course, I won’t ever forget every sentence he wrote in those letters. I treasured all of it.

Suga puts his other hand on my shoulder giving me a silent message of not leaving him even though we’re just sitting next to each other. I take his hand and hold onto it tightly to show him that I’ll never leave his side. Holding his hand like this still feels like a fantasy.

                “Actually, when you wrote ‘Suga’ instead of ‘Sugar’ at the end of your letters, I started to be suspicious. But you know, I just thought of it as Sugar’s way of making a friend smile. Besides, what kind of idol would stalk his fan? It should be the opposite, right?” I let out a short laugh. In my case, a stalker-idol is possible and his name is Suga. “Now when I look back to it, I really was innocent. Why didn’t I figure it out sooner?”

                He gives me a smile again. “I’m grateful because despite your innocence and the challenges we both faced, we still ended up together. We are meant to be together.” He looks at me for a while and winks. This guy is making me melt everytime. I couldn’t help myself from kissing his cheek for the second time around. “Wow,” he guffaws. “Tell me if there’s a stoplight because I feel like driving in the clouds.”

                I laugh and put his right hand on the wheel, “Okay, enough with that. Allow me to enjoy the ride.”

                “I guess we have to stop by Hansol to get your things,” he suggests. “I’ll let you stay in our dorm for the meantime. I have to ask-”

                “WHAT?” I exclaim. In their dorm? In BTS’s dorm? Did I hear it right? “You’re taking me to your dorm? With the members?” I ask with wide eyes.

                “You sound so excited, Kim Tae Bi,” he sounds excited, too. Whenever he mentions my name, I feel electric shock passing through me. “Of course. I don’t want you to stay in that place anymore. I have to make sure that you’ll be with me all the time.”

                I don’t answer and just sit back. My smile is not fading on my face though I’m a bit worried of what might happen when the fans figured out I’m staying in the boys’ house.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                We finally reach Seoul and in fifteen minutes we’ll be at Hansol. Suga’s right, it’s hotter here so we put on our sunglasses and look around if there’s media roaming around or following us. So far, it seems like no one suspicious is getting on our way.
                “I’ll get my things quickly. So just wait for me at the basement. You cannot park the car in front the building because somebody might notice you.” I tell Suga. He nods and I can’t stop myself from staring at his serious face. He looks hot with those shades on. Is it true that this good-looking guy is my boyfriend?
                We stop at the basement floor of Hansol Oak Valley. No one’s around so it’s safe for Suga to stay here for a while.
“Wait for me. I’ll be real quick.” I unbuckle my seatbelt and unlock the door. I’m about to get out of the car when he grabs my arm. I look back and he pulls me for a kiss. It’s surprising at first but when he moves his hand at the back of my neck I lean closer to him and make our deep kiss longer. I almost forgot my promise to him when we were in Ansan.
               I’ll give you more once we get to Seoul safely.
               This guy never forgets.
