Without You

= Shin Aegi =

After I finished with my work, I joined Doojoon and Yoseob to meet JiEun. And to my surprise, Doojoon brought his own car. I had never known that he could drive and had a car already. My jaw was dropped when I saw his car. But he just smiled and told us to get in. Yoseob told me to sit on the front passenger’s seat while he took the back seat and held on the cake. So I did what he told me and sat on the front seat. Doojoon drove the car away. We were talking and joking while we were heading to the place where Yoseob had his appointment with JiEun.

Then we arrived on one restaurant. But the restaurant seemed familiar for me. Doojoon pulled over his car on the front of the restaurant. I looked at Doojoon as Yoseob walked out from the car.

"Is this...?"

"Yang family's restaurant." Doojoon continued my words as he parked the car.

I looked at the restaurant. It seemed to be bigger than it was before. So I guessed Yang Omoni had earned success with her restaurant chain.

"Yang Ahjumma did well." Doojoon told me.

I looked at him and smiled. "Yes, she is."

Doojoon smiled. "She renovated the building 2 years ago and most of the old staffs are not working here anymore."

I just nodded with his explanation.

"Let's go." Doojoon told me to get off from the car.

I opened the door and went out. Doojoon went out too and locked his car. He came to me and walked along with me inside the restaurant.

Inside the restaurant, I looked around as I walked in. The restaurant indeed had changed. It was bigger that it used to be and I didn't recognized the staffs anymore. They were younger than the old staffs. The staffs there seemed to know Doojoon as they were smiling at him and greeting him friendly. Doojoon replied them too.

To see them all, I felt a little bit lonely and left behind. I used to know the staffs here. But it seemed that now the staffs had changed.

"Aegi-ssi?"

The call made me stopped and turned. I saw a familiar woman for me. I smiled as I knew her. She used to be the waitress on the restaurant. I knew her. And her name was...

"Im Jung-ah ahjumma?"

The woman smiled as I mentioned her name correctly. She came to me and patted my arms.

"Aigo." She said. "Where have you been? You were gone suddenly. I even didn't have a chance to say goodbye to you."

I smiled. "I was with Appa's family."

Jung-ah ahjumma seemed to understand as she smiled. Then she looked at me from top to bottom. "Aigo." She looked at me again with a surprised look. "What happen to you? You look girly."

I smiled because of her words.

"And pretty too." Jung-ah ahjumma continued.

I could hear Doojoon's chuckled.

"That was what I thought too, Ahjumma." Doojoon told her.

Jung-ah ahjumma just smiled. "Well, nevermind." She waved her hand then hugged me. "It's good to see you back."

"Me too, Ahjumma."

Jung-ah ahjumma released me. "I'm going back to work. Enjoy your time."

I nodded. "Thank you, Ahjumma."

Jung-ah ahjumma smiled then walked away. I looked back to Doojoon who waited for me.

"Only Jung-ah ahjumma who still stayed." Doojoon told me as he understood what I wanted to ask him.

"Ah."

Then he offered me a hand. "Come on."

I looked at his hand and took his hand. He pulled me closer then pushed me to the cubical rooms part. Yoseob was preparing the room on one room. I and Doojoon helped him.

Around 10 minutes later, Yoseob walked away after he received a phone call. Doojoon told me that it was probably JiEun. Somehow I felt nervous. Probably because she would taste my cake later. But then, I felt someone came to my back. I looked around and saw Doojoon.

"Don't worry. JiEun-ssi will like your cake." He told me.

I just gave him a smile.

Then, not too long after, Yoseob came back with a cute girl beside him. The girl was really cute with petite body and cute chubby face. Her eyes were rounded. She really looked innocent and cute. I went silent to see her. Yoseob was cute but she was cuter. I thought I could squeal because of her cuteness.

"Annyeong, JiEun-ssi." Doojoon greeted her.

JiEun smiled. "Annyeong, Doojoon oppa." She replied his greet.

"Happy birthday." Doojoon said again.

JiEun smiled as she blushed. "Thank you." She said in shy attitude.

But when I saw her like that, I felt something struck on my heart.

Then JiEun looked at me and she tilted her head in confussion. "Are you Shin Aegi unnie?"

Huh? How come she knew my name?

"Aa, yes."

JiEun gasped in happiness. "Ah, finally we meet." She said cheerfully. "Yoseob oppa told me a lot about you." She bowed to me. "Annyeonghaseyo, I'm Lee JiEun."

I bowed to reply her. "Shin Aegi imnida."

"Wow." She looked amazed. "I never thought that you are this pretty. Yoseob oppa told me that you used to be tomboy and boyish."

I smiled. "It was how I used to be." I told her. Somehow I thought that JiEun was someone friendly.

But then, Yoseob came and cut our conversation. He showed her the cake, telling her that that was the cake that I made. To my relief, JiEun liked the cake. We had dinner together after that. JiEun was a sweet girl and Yoseob seemed to care about her a lot. Both of them were cute couple together. JiEun was friendly too. I didn't get any difficulties to get along with her.

= Yoon Doojoon =

Somehow it was so good to see that Aegi could get along with JiEun. They were talking and laughing together. I knew that Aegi used not to have girls as her friends. So it was something new to see her talking and laughing with girls. Somehow I realized that she really had changed now. Aegi was a girl, not the boyish girl that she used to be.

After the dinner, Yoseob told me that he would take JiEun home. He also told me that I should talk with Aegi about my dad’s message. So we were parting on the front of the restaurant. Yoseob was right. I did need to talk with Aegi.

“Aegi.”

Aegi stopped by my car’s door and turned to see me. “Yes?”

“Can we talk?”

She nodded. “Sure.”

“Come on.”

I turned to walk toward the park near the restaurant. I remembered that I used to play catch ball there with Aegi and the boys on the park. But since it was already night, people usually just walked to enjoy the night view because there was a lake on the park. I took a walk with her around the lake.

“Ah, it has been so long since the last time I came here.”

Aegi’s speech made me turned to see her. I smiled.

“It has been 5 years, Aegi.”

She smiled. “But on those five years you never have girlfriends?” She asked but I knew that she was teasing me.

Somehow I found it was amusing. “Why? Is it strange?”

She nodded then looked at me. “Yes, because you are good looking. How can you not have a girlfriend for once?”

I guessed I was blushing with the words ‘good looking’ that she said. I scratched the back of my head. “I guess I’m not good looking enough.”

She giggled to hear me then looked at the sky. “Wow, the sky is so beautiful.”

I looked up and saw the clear sky with stars. I did remember that Aegi liked the stars. She could spend minutes to look up the night sky. I used to lay down with her on the grass and watched the night sky with her. I looked back at her.

“You still like the stars?” I asked her.

She nodded then took a seat on the bench and looked up again to the sky. “I used to think that Omma is up there watching at me through the stars.”

I smiled. I remembered that thing too. She had told me once. I sat beside her. But the sky made me calm.

“So what do you want to talk about?”

I looked at her and suddenly I was confused how to start. “Ah, I don’t know how to start.” I told her as I looked to the front.

“Yoon Doojoon is speechless now.” She said with teasing tone.

I looked at her. “It’s not like that, Aegi. It’s…” I stopped and Aegi furrowed her eyebrows when I stopped. I released a sigh. I guessed I’d better to tell her the truth and straight to the point. I took a deep breath and told her.

“My father wants to meet us both. I guess he wants to talk about the plan of our marriage.”

“Ah…” Her voice sounded understand and acknowledging about it.

“I’m sorry, Aegi. I don’t expect that my dad will go this far about my marriage.” I leaned on the chair. “I think I’ll just go and explain to my dad about our real relation.” I looked at Aegi. “I’ll tell him that I just asked you to be my fake girlfriend just to avoid the arranged marriage.” I looked to front again. “I’ll tell him that you’re not actually my girlfriend. And…”

“But I think meeting your dad is a good idea.”

Those words made me stopped and looked at her with disbelieve look. “What?”

Aegi looked at me and smiled. “Let’s go and meet your father.”

I studied her face as she said that. But somehow I knew that she didn’t joke with what she had said. She meant what she had said. My heart skipped and I knew that I should have rejoiced. But I also wondered why she could say like that. Did she know the consequences of meeting my dad?

“Did you…?”

She smiled and cut off my words. “I know.”

“But, Aegi…”

She cut me off again. “When will Aboji want to meet us?”

“This Saturday.” I replied her.

“Okay. Then, I’ll meet you on Saturday. Pick me up, okay.” She stood up and wanted to walk away.

But I quickly grabbed her wrist to stop her. I stood up. “But, you really don’t need to do this, Aegi. I’d rather to have arranged marriage than to force you marrying me.”

But then, she just smiled and slipped her hand from my grip. She cupped her hand on my cheek so I could feel her warmth through her hand. “It’s fine.” She said casually. She brushed my cheek as she lowered her hand then she walked away.

I just stood there watching at her and wondering why she had agreed. I didn’t know why she had agreed. And the look on her face was so unreadable for me. She was so good to hide her feeling. Did something had happened between her and Junhyung?

But I didn’t think so. Junhyung would have told me if something happen to them. So what was wrong with Aegi?

Shin Aegi, are you out of your mind?
