What Should I Do?

Forgotten Promise

The first thing Donghae heard when he entered his apartment was something unpleasant. His phone started ringing continuously, making him pick up the call.

"Yoboseyo?" Donghae asked tiredly, rubbing his face.

"YA! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US WHEN YOU FOUND YOUR 'FIRST LOVE'?!" the caller shouted. Donghae groaned. There was only one person that voice would belong to–His father.

"Abeoji, annyeonghaseyo–"

"Don't say 'hi' to me, young man!" Donghae's father shouted. Donghae pulled the phone away from his ear and glared at it. Sheesh. Abeoji, you need to show your son some manners and all, Donghae thought.

"Abeoji, how did you even found out if I found Yoona or not?" Donghae asked, scratching his head.

"YOU FOOL! YOONA'S MOTHER CALLED US!" his father shouted, cursing his son for not telling him about this. Donghae frowned and ignored all the curses. Blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda, he silently thought. How does Yoona's mom know Abeoji's number, anyways?

"Donghae?" a soft voice spoke. Donghae immediately smiled.

"Umma! How are you?" Donghae asked.

"Fine, dear. You're father is very upset that you didn't tell him that it was Yoona, the girl you were trying to search for. We would've arranged a forced-marriage or something," his mother said softly. Donghae shook his head and crossed his legs.

"Forced-marriage? No, Umma, she has a boyfriend already. That would break her heart into a million pieces," Donghae chuckled.

"Oh really? Then you should come back home to Busan! I mean, you can't really do anything about it if she has a boyfriend," his mother said quietly.

"Are you telling me to give up?" Donghae asked, opening his notebook to a fresh, new page.

"W-Well, not exactly, but…isn't it kind of hopeless?" his mother whispered.

"YEOBO! WE NEVER TAUGHT OUR SON TO GIVE UP! NOTHING IS HOPELESS!" his father shouted in the background. Donghae's lips tugged upwards a bit. He couldn't help but smile a bit, thinking that his father was supporting him.

"Aigoo, yeobo!" his mother shouted to his father.

"Umma, Abeoji's right. I shouldn't give up so easily," Donghae said. "Besides, I can change her heart, right?"

"But…"

"YES! That's my boy! Now go get your girl!" his father encouraged. Donghae grinned and nodded. Donghae and his parents exchanged good-byes, as he hung up first. He couldn't help but smile the whole time while doing his homework. I'm not going to give up on you, Yoona! Donghae promised, solving an equation.

"Dear, would you like some tea?" Yoona's mother called.

Yoona wrote the last sentence for her essay and turned to the door. "Neh, Umma! Please give me cookies, too."

After Yoona had closed her notebook, she sighed. She felt weird when she started day-dremaing about Minho. She suddenly remembered about the kiss. She was confused since she didn't feel anything when she kissed Minho. Suddenly, Donghae's smile popped into her head. Her cheeks started turning into a bright shade of red. She began to fan herself with her hand as her mother opened the door.

"Here's your cookies and tea, Yoona," her mother said, putting the tray on the table.

Right when her mother was about to leave, Yoona spoke, "Umma, have you ever kissed Appa and never felt anything?"

Her mother stopped her tracks and carefully thought about the question. "No, dear, I haven't. Every moment was magical, even now."

"But…Umma, wasn't there at least one time?" Yoona asked, holding up a finger. Her mother giggled and took a seat on a nearby chair.

"Yoona-ah, what happened?" her mother asked. Yoona sighed. When it came to relationship and romance, Yoona felt extremely comfortable telling these things to her mother.

"Usually, when I kiss Minho, my heart flutters with excitement! Really, it does, but these days, it doesn't. Now, I don't feel anything when I kiss Minho and Donghae keeps popping in my head," Yoona said, heaving a sigh. Her mother pressed her lips into a thin line and caressed her daughter's hair.

"Oh Yoona, the answer is clearly obvious the way you explain it," her mother said softly. Yoona sighed and puffed her cheeks.

"I just don't get why it feels so…different!" Yoona thought, as Donghae popped back into her head again. She shook her head and pushed the thought of Donghae away.

"Yoona-ah, it's possible that you're tired of Minho, and you're getting interested in your childhood friend," her mother pointed out. Yoona froze. Me? Tired of Minho? That's impossible! Yoona thought, laughing a bit. Her laugh died down as she stared at the notebook. But…What if I am tired of Minho oppa? What should I do then?
