Target Practice
Shadows In His HeartHyorin ran forward with her fist pulled back and instead kicked him square in the stomach, sending him stumbling back with a grin on her face. He looked at her, a slightly proud expression on his face as he charged back and attacked. She flipped back and narrowly avoided his attacks. Her moves weren't perfect and he was taking it easy on her, but it was an immense improvement from 7 months ago.
"Your kicks are good, but you still have the wrong stance" He corrected as they stopped, "Show me your stance"
Trying to remember what he kept reminding her almost every day she stood with her back squared and her feet slightly apart. Her arms were curled at her sides and she felt disappointment strike when he shook his head.
"Why do I even need to know the stance if I can land a hit just fine now?" She asked as he came over and corrected her stance.
"Don't be stupid, the stance is the basis to everything" He said he kicked her legs a bit further apart and corrected the position of her arms, "You can land hits now but you're making yourself easier to take down in the long run if you don't fix this, professionals would take one look at you and kill you in a second" He told her as he came to her front and locked eyes with her.
"Can't we just keep practicing?" She whined as he took another look at her now corrected stance and nodded in satisfaction.
"No, you need to be ready so you're going to stay in that position for the next hour. If I even see that you move a muscle I'll make you stand like that all night with me sitting here so don't even think about it" Jaejoong told her as he walked out of the training room.
Hyorin fought to stand still though her muscles screamed in protest. She closed her eyes and tried to commit the position to memory. She had to get it right next time. Why did she keep forgetting? Left without much to do her mind ran through the events that had happened lately. She smiled as she remembered how quick her scar had healed. The drug had been a success she had been told and soon after she noticed. Her movements were quicker, her flexibility increased, and her senses were heightened. It wasn't anything superhero like, but enough to give her an edge over others.
With a sense of pride she remembered the first time she had actually landed a hit on Jaejoong. They had both pause in shock as her face broke out into a cheesy smile. After practice she had run over to tell Yesung all about it. He was worried about her and her sudden improvement, but she made sure to convince him she had just been practicing more.
"You can move now" Jaejoong said as he walked in an hour later.
"What exactly do I need to be ready for?" She asked him curiously as she moved her sore muscles and stretched them out, "You've been like this all week"
"You're going on your first mission this week" He said casually as he grabbed a towel for her and threw it carelessly.
"My... my first mission? Me? Are you sure? You're coming with me right?" She asked nervously as her hand reached out and grabbed his sleeve.
"What? You think I'd let you go mess this up by yourself? Of course I'm coming with you idiot." He said as he shook her off and walked away.
Hyorin took a quick shower and stalled a bit longer than usual. It was her first mission. What type of mission would it have to be? She stopped when she realized what this would mean. This would be the first time she would have to kill someone. She stood dressed looking down at her hands and wondered if she would be able to do it. She was really worried she realized as she resolved to go talk to Yesung.
"Where are you going?" Jaejoong asked her when Hyorin left the room and turned in the opposite direction of her room.
"What are you still doing here?" She asked him back, surprised. He was never here after practice.
"My question first" He said as he walked over to her.
"I'm going to Yesung's office for a while" Hyorin answered innocently, noticing the change in Jaejoong's posture.
"Skip that this time" He ordered, "We're going to the shooting range to practice"
"We always do that later, I just want to see him for a little while. I'll meet you down there, it won't take me long" She said quickly as she turned and continued on her way.
"I said we're going to practice" He hissed as he grabbed her arm and pulled her the opposite way.
"Fine. I said fine just let go of me!" She yelled angrily as she tried to pry his firm hand off of her, "Do you not like Yesung or something?" She asked him as he kept pulling her along.
"Why do you say that?" He asked loosening his grip on her.
'You always get so angry whenever we bring him up" She said as stumbled along behind him.
"No I don't'' He said forcefully.
"Yes you do! Your whole posture changes and your eyes get angry!" She said as they neared the shooting range.
"Don't be stupid" Jaejoong snapped, ending the conversation as they got to work.
~~~~~~~~
"Do you ever listen?! That's why you're missing the target point!" He yelled in frustration still angry from their conversation before. Who did she think she was pretending she could tell so much about him?!
"I'm sorry ok?!" She screamed back, wondering why he was in such a bad mood, "I'm still hitting the target's chest anyways, who cared if I'm an inch away from its heart?!"
"I care! An inch is difference between life and death. Just an inch more and you could avoid risking your life anymore, I've said this thousands of times" He said angrily as he pushed off of his spot and went over to her.
"This is why you're missing" He muttered as he went over to her and wrapped an arm around her small waist bringing her back into his chest. He straightened her back and pushed her hips forward with one hand as the other went around the gun she held in front of her.
Hyorin felt her heart stop as his other hand ran along her side and slid along her arm so they were both holding the gun together. She felt him blow a strand of her hair away from his face and stood frozen. Why was he so close?
"This is the right posture" He murmured, not unaware of the way her eyes widened as the feel of his hot breath caressed her neck.
She squeezed the trigger then, shooting off six rounds. They both looked up as each one followed the other and they all hit the small dot that represented the target's heart. They stood there for a moment longer, neither of the two quite sure of what was happening before Jaejoong pulled away.
"Practice a while longer then go to bed" He said as he walked away.
Hyorin reloaded the gun, looking back at the empty room behind her. Today had been a weird day. Her hand went to her chest and she felt her increased heart beat. She must be really nervous about that mission.
Jaejoong walked quickly out of the building, thankful for the cold air outside. He closed his eyes and leaned back. What the hell was going on? She was right, he kept getting annoyed every time she would mention Yesung. But that was because it was distracting her from practice and that made it a waste of his time. Still... He looked down at his still tingling hands and clenched them forcefully. He shouldn't have touched her. He needed to get his head back in the game he told himself as he went to his car and drove to find something to take his mind of things.
