Pretending Not To LoveNo One’s POV:
When Joo Eun reserved an entire day for a date with her, Sooyoon didn’t think much about it. At first, the date was going well as per her plan. However, not long after, they both came across people from their college even when they changed the location.
Not having left with much choice, they decided to head back to his place and spend the time there instead. It was when he started feeling something off with her, even though all they had been doing was kissing and cuddling.
When it got pretty late in the night, Sooyoon realized that it was time for him to send her back home before James shows up at his door step. “Shouldn’t you be going home now?” he asked.
She slowly sat up and avoided looking at him, “Sooyoon-ah, we need to talk.” He sat up immediately, dreading the worst possibilities and just like his inner self indicated, she said, “Let’s take a break.”
He was stunned to hear what she said that he remained speechless for a while and simple stared at her with a blank face. She gently cupped his face and stared into his eyes as she said, “I know it’s too sudden and it’s not like I suddenly fell out of love.”
She took a momentary pause as his gaze shifted elsewhere and waited until he looked back at her. “I still love you. Loads, in fact. But this isn’t working for either of us, dear. Even though I love you, I still have to do this. For the sake of my studies.”
She sighed, grabbing hold of his hand instead. “But for that, I cannot ask you to wait until I graduate. I’m sorry, I can’t be that selfish. I love you too much for that.” she whispered the last part. “Anyway, if we were still be in love with each other when I graduate, I will be the one asking you out that time.”
Sooyoon remained quiet through all this. “But if you find someone else in the meantime, then don’t bother about me. I will always wish for your happiness.”
He stared at her with a slightly raised eyebrows and she quickly hugged him, to avoid looking at him. “Don’t forget to eat on time, sleep well and take care of yourself. I will miss you.” She slowly let go of him.
“Joo Eun-ah,” he started but she cut him off.
“Thank you for all the beautiful memories that I will never forget.” She laid a kiss on his cheeks. “I will get going now. James would be waiting for me.” She hopped off the bed and dashed out of the apartment in the blink of the eyes, leaving him in a haze.
He could have stopped her in a flash, but he had seen what she had to go through because of their relationship and how she took the blame alone without letting him do anything about it. He didn’t want to hold her back, when she herself want to leave. So he felt that letting her go was the right thing to do.
But, instead of heading back home, she just climbed down the stairs and walked out of the main gate while he continued to sit there, processing everything that took place in the past few minutes.
Not that long after, his phone started ringing. “Hello, James?”
“Do you know what time it is now? Is she still there, Sooyoon? Why haven’t you sent her back yet?”
“She hasn’t come home yet? She left nearly an hour ago, James. Did you try calling her?”
“What? An hour ago? Hmmm. Yes, I tried calling her but she isn’t answering. Did you both get into fight or something?”
“Um, about that,” Sooyoon hesitated.
“Forget it. Any idea where she might have gone to?”
“I’m not really sure.” He started.
“Okay then, I gotta go look for her. So talk to you later.” James disconnected the call without waiting for any reply.
Sooyoon quickly wore his shoes and ran down the stairs, before encountering James near the gate. “What are you doing here?” James asked.
“I will help you look for her too.”
“So you guys really got into a fight?” James raised his eyebrows.
“Well, she broke up with me.”
“What?” James was surprised to hear that.
“You heard me.” Sooyoon sighed.
“Okay, okay. But if I find out that she broke up with you because you hurt her, then know that you will die in my hands.” Sooyoon nodded. “So do you have any idea where she might have gone to?”
“I’m not exactly sure but we can try.” He then told James about the places he thinks Joo Eun might have gone to. “Did you try contacting Jiwoong?”
“No, I didn’t. It didn’t strike me.”
Sooyoon took out phone and quickly called Jiwoong. But his expression didn’t change much when he spoke to him. “He has no idea either. He said he would let me know if he finds her. Anyway, let’s split up and search.” Sooyoon said as he got off the phone and so they both went in the opposite direction in search of Joo Eun.
Meanwhile,
When Joo Eun rushed out of Sooyoon’s apartment, she didn’t feel like going back home as her heart was feeling heavy. So she decided to take a stroll in the neighborhood and catch some fresh air to clear her mind.
As she kept walking, she just ended up at the neighborhood playground. She simply walked up to the empty swings and sat down, before getting lost in her thoughts.
Not long after, a figure happened to wal
