The Box
Pretending Not To LoveNo One’s POV:
After Joo Eun brought the drunk Sooyoon home from the restaurant, he started explaining her about the incident that happened back in the restaurant’s cellar and he even confessed his feelings to her.
However, she dismissed all that by saying that it’s just his drunk self and that he won’t remember it when he wakes up the next day. She somehow managed to keep quiet and go to sleep a few minutes later.
“I like you too, Sooyoon-ah,” she laid a kiss on his forehead, “but you should stop confessing you like me every time you’re drunk before my heart actually starts believing it.” she placed a hand on her chest, feeling the erratic beating of her heart before she let out a sigh.
She turned off the lights before closing the room’s door and making her way to the living room. She flopped down on the couch and started watching some TV show. Hours later, she fell asleep while the TV was still on.
James who walked out of his room to fetch some ice cold water from the refrigerator, a few hours before the break of dawn, was surprised to find his sister sleeping on the living room couch. “Joo Eun-ah?” he turned off the TV and tried waking her up.
She opened her eyes slightly and stared up at him, still lying on the couch. “Why are you sleeping here? Get up and go to your room.” He said while she just stared at him blankly. “Don’t give me that look! I cannot carry you to your room,”
“It’s okay, I will just sleep here.” She replied, letting out a yawn.
James just shook his head, “Fine, I will get your blanket then,” he turned around and was about to walk towards her room when she grabbed him by his wrist.
“A friend of mine is sleeping over.” She whispered.
“A guy?” he raised his eyebrows before crossing his arms while she slowly sat up and smiled at him sheepishly.
“He was drunk. So I couldn’t take him to his place.” She said, feeling nervous all of a sudden.
“Jiwoong?” he asked while she shook her head. “You have another guy friend? Close enough to bring him home?” he sounded surprised. “Anyway, are you sure you would be okay sleeping on the couch? Wanna exchange with me?”
Joo Eun looked up at him with her eyes wide open, “What? No, no, the couch is too small for you. I’m fine sleeping here. You can go back to sleep without any worry.”
“I will get you a blanket,” he walked back to his room and returned with a blanket. “You know, you can still take my bed.” He offered once again but she refused strongly. “Here,” he handed the blanket over to her when he noticed her hand in the brace. “Are you hurt?”
“Um, it’s nothing. Just had a nasty fall at my workplace.” She smiled at him.
“Rest well,” he patted her head before walking back to his room.
Suddenly realization hit her that her brother was being very friendly and caring. “Am I dreaming?” she whispered before pinching herself, “ouch! That hurts!” she rubbed the spot she just pinched as her frown was slowly replaced with a huge silly grin.
She covered herself with the blanket and went back to sleep. She woke up a few hours later and did as much cleaning as she could do with using only hand before walking back into her room.
Sooyoon was still deep in sleep as she gathered some clothes and went to take a bath. She later tried making some hangover soup but it wasn’t that easy especially when it’s her right hand that was injured.
She heard Sooyoon’s phone ringing in her room, followed by him talking on the phone. So she poured some soup into a bowl and took it to her room. “I gotta go. I will talk to you later,” she heard him say on the phone before ending the call.
“Morning,” she wished him as she placed the tray on the bedside table while he wished her back with a smile. “For you,” she pointed at the tray. “Are you okay?”
He nodded with yet another smile, “Thank you but why did you go through the pain of making this yourself with that hand? I would have been fine even if you haven’t.”
“It’s nothing.” She smiled at him, “Anyway, I will be out in the kitchen. My brother might go out for a workout. So freshen up and maybe come out? Wait, message me before you come out of the room. My brother might still be around. So don’t forget to confirm once, okay?” she made him agree.
Sooyoon’s phone started ringing once again as she took the tray with the now empty bowls and walked out. She heard him say on the phone, “Thank you,” before she closed the door and made her way to the kitchen.
She was doing some cleanups in the kitchen when James walked out all dressed up, “I’m going out,” he said as she looked at him in surprise.
She was wondering where he might be going on a weekend morning especially all dressed up, when he said, “I’m heading out to meet a friend. I will take care of the breakfast on my way and I will not be back for lunch. So don’t bother to cook anything and just order for a delivery, okay?” he asked while she nodded.
A few minutes later, she was preparing a bowl of cereals for a simple breakfast when a pair of arms wrapped around her, making her let out a yelp. Sooyoon let out his trademark laugh as he whispered, “Sorry.”
“You gave me a heart attack there.” She clutched her chest as she breathed heavily while he tightened his hold, apologizing once again. “Didn’t I ask you to confirm once before coming out of the room? What if my brother was still around?”
“I heard him go out earlier,” he replied smugly.
He then helped her fill her bowl with cereal and milk as they both sat down at the dining table. They both didn’t speak much as she finished her breakfast and he helped her clean up, “I’m afraid I have to leave now. Have to stop by my parent’s place once before meeting with some friends. Will you be okay on your own?”
She let out a chuckle, “Of course I will be. I’m not a kid. Now stop worrying about me and go and take care of your business.” She flashed him an assuring smile before ushering him towards the door.
“My shoes are in your room,” he said upon reaching the foyer.
“Ah yeah, I forgot,” she gently hit her head, “wait, I will get them for you.”
She turned around to walk back to her room but he stopped her, “I can take them myself. Just stay here.” He hit her head playfully before rushing in the direction of her room.
He returned a few seco
