It has been a long day, make it two long days, since he’d been in Japan and Kai was beyond exhausted. What was supposed to be a relatively quick and simple meeting with the foreign investors had turned out to be much more complicated than expected.

Even if Kai himself had shown up to handle the situation, it still took quite a bit of effort before they had come to an agreement (somewhat); a final meeting still scheduled for the day after next.

He didn’t have time to eat, didn’t even have time to sleep well, and whenever his mind inched towards the thought of calling home to hear Kyungsoo’s voice, to seek any form of solace, comfort and encouragement, something would pop up and distract him from making that call.

Kai didn’t even have time to think about his husband and kids; he was that busy.

He entered his executive suite in the hotel, eager to finally get some rest. In his haste to get in, he didn’t even register the extra three pairs of shoes stuffed in a corner. Kai dumped his bag by the couch, loosening his tie in the process before he lay down and kicked up his legs. His mind was already starting to throb and to think that he still had to go through a pile of documents, contracts, for the meeting the day after tomorrow. Nightmare.

If his stomach didn’t growl just then, he probably would have forgotten that the only meal he had all day was a pathetic sandwich in the morning. Kai groaned and stumbled to his feet, pacing towards the kitchenette.

Odd… He eyed his bedroom door that was ajar, dim light coming from within, and frowned. I don’t remember leaving the lights on. Kai shrugged and continued on his way towards the island counter. Weird… His frown intensified when he spotted the many dishes prepared and waiting for him on the counter.

I didn’t call for room service… oh wells… Who can complain if there’s food available right? Kai gulped. Chicken, spicy seafood soup, pasta; those were just some of his favorite food. Whoever prepared this sure knew him very well. He couldn’t help but to dig in heartily, with every bite he took. The food was still warm.

A good meal sure makes up for an exhausting day. Kai hummed to himself happily. But his fork halted in mid air when he heard a very soft giggle coming from the direction of his room. What the hell was that? He whirled around at once and jabbed his fork forward to protect himself. Please don’t tell me this suite is haunted.

He stood and inched towards his bedroom, fork still in hand. “W-Who’s there?” Kai could slap himself for sounding so timid. There it was again, the ghostly giggle. This time, because he was kind of anticipating it, Kai couldn’t help but find the giggle very familiar.
