In Love With Ghost
Two hours later I’m standing in front of a tall office building, with both hands covering my eyes from the sun.
"Why are we here?" I asked without taking my eyes off that tall building.
"Dongwoo works here. Let's go.” His answer was short.
Dongwoo, he is the reason why I'm here, Soohyun stayed over in his house when he was in Jeju. And Woohyun really hopes he can give some information about Soohyun’s whereabout now. If possible, I want to get as much information as I could from him, so we won’t go home empty-handed. Double glass doors automatically slid open when we walked past it, shiny marble floors unfolds and right in front of me, approximately six feet from where I was, stands a reception table from white granite stone guarded by a woman.
"How can I help you?" She asked.
"I want to meet Jang Dongwoo."
"Dongwoo? Have you made an appointment?"
"Not yet." "Oh, then wait a minute, Miss." A woman named Bora answered as she picked up the phone and started to call someone. Maybe she immediately calling Dongwoo. 5 minutes passed, Bora hung up and looked up me. "Sorry to make you wait long, Dongwoo will see you soon." I nodded, she even forgot to ask my name. Moments later, a small, bespectacled man emerged from a door on the left.
"That’s him." Woohyun said from behind.
"Jang Dongwoo?" I cocked my head questionly, it would look strange if I instantly recognize him.
"Yes, I'm Jang Dongwoo."
"Hello Dongwoo, I'm Lee Jieun. Nice to meet you." I stepped forward and held out my hand to him.
"Nice to meet you too." Dongwoo said while welcoming hand.
"I'm sorry if I’ve disturbed you, but I would be delighted if you're willing to spend a little of your time to talk with me. Do you mind?"
"No of course, please come with me." I followed Dongwoo with a satisfied smile on my lips, he took me to a room that seems often used to hold small meetings.
"Is there something I can do for you?" He asked after letting me sit down, I glanced at Woohyun then cleared my throat.
"I'm here to ask you about Nam Soohyun."
"Soohyun? Do you know him?"
"It has been almost two weeks he disappeared. His family is very worried, can you tell me where he is now?" I continued to avoid his question, Dongwoo's frown deepened.
"Soohyun disappeared? Do you mean he left his house?"
"You don’t know?"
"So he really ran away from home?" His eyes widened.
"Soohyun went away without leaving any clue, he just disappeared."
"I can’t believe Soohyun ran away from home. Soohyun! Ran away from home. Gosh!" And then he laughed out loud. I began to think that he’s actually insane, a mental hospital patient who escaped.
"Yes, he actually ran away from home. So, do you know where he is now?" I asked again, in a two octaves higher voice which made him regained consciousness.
"Sorry, I've exaggerated earlier. I just didn’t think he would go away, that's so childish. There must be a reason why he did this embarrassing thing. Women, I guess." Dongwoo muttered. I turned quickly, this guy knows something.
"I know what problems Soohyun has. He said he needs a new atmosphere when he came to my house, but you don’t need to worry, whatever it was he had got through. He'll be back." I frowned confused, seems like Soohyun really trust this friend to tell a problem that is quite sensitive, but obviously this man had been misunderstood.
"Sorry, it looks like you misunderstand, I don’t have any relationship with Soohyun. I came here because of Woohyun."
"Woohyun?" Dongwoo looked surprised.
"I’m Woohyun’s girlfriend." My voice sounded steady without any doubt. There was a silence that followed.
"Woohyun? Soohyun’s twin brother?"
"Right."
"Are you going crazy over him?"
"I love him, we were dating."
"Really? No wonder why he canceled the engagement—“
“I didn’t come here to talk about my personal life. I was looking for you, hoping you could tell me where Soohyun is now. Woohyun’s family is really worried, as well as Jiyeon. You know Jiyeon, right?" I replied curtly, why is this guy so annoying?
"Oh, sorry. I don’t mean to be rude. Hmm ... forget it. I know Jiyeon, she is the twins’ little sister. But with great regret I must tell you that I don’t know where Soohyun is now. He never told me where he will go. But wait a minute, Soohyun once mentioned a large company in Daegu, I forgot its name. I'm so sorry." He shook his head.
"I beg you, try harder. You have to remember the name of the company, please?"
"I'm really sorry, Jieun. I can’t remember. I also couldn’t reach him since our last meeting, it seemed like he had changed number. But I can convey your message if Soohyun contacted me first. So what do you want me to tell him?" I bit my lower lip and glanced Woohyun, his face was grim and disappointment clearly visible there. Then he nodded, agree to anything that I would say to Dongwoo.
"Hmm, please say to Soohyun that... that Woohyun passed away a few days ago." I said quietly. Silence, I saw Dongwoo’s face turned pale, two seconds later he laughed nervously.
"You're kidding right?"
"I'm not going to make a cruel joke. Please pass it on Soohyun."
"So Soohyun doesn’t know?" I shook my head.
"Woohyun died on the night before Soohyun leaving Jeju on next morning."
"Oh! I don’t know. I left Jeju on the same day with Soohyun. I was assigned in Gwangju last wee
