It had been a week since the passing of King Jiyong in the battle against the South. There was a commotion inside the palace. Much to the dismay of many, there was no heir to the throne despite King Jiyong and Queen Sandara's five years of marriage. The advisers were unsure on how to handle the situation. 

"Why did Jiyong have to be so stubborn and fight in the front line?" One of his best friends and adviser, Yanggeng, grunted

"It was his pride," Youngbae, the deceased king's right hand, spoke

"He knows very well he should not be competing with his own knight," Yanggeng said

"But he still did it. He died trying to prove he was a better fighter," Eunuch Daesung shook his head

"What a fool. Seunghyun is a warrior. There was no competition," sighed Youngbae

"We all know what it was really about. Let us not be blind. Even after all these years, he was trying to pine for the queen's affections," Seungri took a drink from his golden cup

"Why would he ? He has Lady Kiko," Daesung became lost

"Because Jiyong can't stand losing to his bastard brother," Yanggeng replied

Knight Choi Seunghyun then entered the room causing the men to become silent. 

"The queen has arrived with her father," announced Seunghyun.

The four men rose from their seats. Seunghyun held the large door open for his queen. 

"You may be seated," Sandara told them as soon as she entered the room
"What a sight it is to see you boys in such positions," commented Lord Park

“Lord Park, your arrival is a pleasure,” bowed Youngbae

“More mess,” mumbled Seungri

“I basically saw each and every one of you grow up,” chuckled Lord Park

“Daddy,” Sandara tugged at his sleeve

“Well, I won’t be of disturbance to you. I just came to visit my daughter,” he said

“Do enjoy your stay,” Daesung told him

“Oh, I will.”

With his final words said, the father and daughter duo left while Seunghyun decided to stay with the men.

“You’re not going to follow them?” asked Yanggeng

“They need their private time,” replied Seunghyun

“So you’re staying here,” Seungri assumed

“Why do I sense I’m not welcomed here?” sighed Seunghyun

“It’s not that you’re not. It’s just... Not best that you stay here while we discuss the issue,” explained Daesung

“If you guys insist,” Seunghyun bowed before leaving the room.

“When you think about it, Seunghyun has always been more fit than Jiyong to run the kingdom,” stated Youngbae

“I can’t believe you just said that,” Yanggeng stared at him

“He does have a point,” agreed Seungri

“Jiyong just wanted to be called king but he didn’t want the responsibilities that came with it,” added Daesung

“As if Seunghyun wants the responsibility,” Yanggeng rolled his eyes,

“He doesn’t, but he is responsible. He’s a man of honor,” Youngbae began

“Which is exactly why he is a knight,” interrupted Yanggeng

“But he also has qualities fit for a King,” debated Seungri, “He knows how to call for the right decisions,”

“And it is in his blood,” pointed out Daesung

“And I’m sure he wouldn’t mind marrying the Queen,” Yanggeng was irritated

“Why are you so mad at him?” questioned Youngbae

“Because Jiyong died trying to compete with him. Jiyong would still be alive if not for him,”

“Seunghyun never pushed Jiyong to do that. It was all in Jiyong’s head,” Youngbae defended his friend

“You’re always defending that bastard,” Yanggeng slammed his hands on the table and stood up

“That bastard happens to be a righteous man,” Youngbae stood up

“I think it’s best that we end today’s discussion and proceed when you two have calmed down,” Daesung suggested.

The men parted with Seungri assisting Yanggeng and Daesung accompanying Youngbae. 

The seven kingdoms have never been ruled by just a queen before. Ever since the start, it has always been a king, with a queen by his side. Since there is no son or full brother to fill in the throne, chaos has risen. Different families are trying to eye the throne despite Queen Sandara being alive and well. It is as if they want to just kick her out of her rank. Lady Kiko’s family being one of them. However, there is also no written rule that forbids a queen from ruling the kingdom on her own. The debate is ongoing on whether Sandara has what it takes to rule over the kingdoms by herself due to her reputation of being too kind. The best solution that has come up is for the queen to pick a suitable king, but the bloodline is now the issue. 

Sandara and her father were quietly enjoying the view of the Constance Kingdom from the middle tower of the palace.

“How are you feeling, my daughter?”

“I don’t know,” she answered honestly

“What do you mean?”

“I’m not exactly grieving for Jiyong’s death, but I’m not happy either,” 

“Are you scared that they’ll announce you no longer queen?”

“Oh no, father. It has never been about that,”

“I’m sorry, my child,” there was a pause, “That you had to marry someone you didn’t love,”

“I loved Jiyong, father. Just not in the romantic way,”

“You know you have a voice,” 

“I know. And that’s what I’m afraid of,”

“But why?”

“Father. I don’t have to say anything. You know, the maids know, the knights know. I think the whole world possibly knows,”

“That you would choose Choi Seunghyun as your king,”

“And that’s what I am afraid of, father. For his safety. For his life. Do I really want the man I love to be ruler of all these kingdoms? I’ve seen what power does to men. It turned Jiyong mad. It made you age. It made grandfather lose his mind and grandmother almost joined him,”

“He loves you," 

"Father, I know that. But power is such a cruel thing. It eats away at people. Do I want my precious knight to be exposed to that?"

"He probably already has been exposed to it. He is still a son of a deceased king. You don't think he's ever wanted the throne?"

"I don't want to think about this now. You just arrived. Let's just... relax."
