Pie took a couple of seconds to register what Kim has just said. “We're in 2014” Those words keep echoing in her head. The sedative used on her added to the confusion as well. Pie took a deep breath and looked around. Beyond Kim's face, everything was strange. It all seemed.. bright, the machines around her seemed like they crawled out of a science fiction book. She observed every detail of the room, her bed and the things attached to her. Then she could hear a faint voice calling her. “Pie..Pie..” Kim was calling her, she turned her gaze on her. “Pie, are you alright? Do you feel anything?” Kim asked. “Kim.. how did we get here? Are we really in the future?” Future.. My future, her present. Now I understand why Kim felt confused. “Yes, Pie. We are in my time. You were accidentally shot by your father, and we were about to take you to the hospital but it was too far, then the wormhole opened. It was your only chance so I brought you here. Pie.. I.. I'm sorry for causing this. You didn't have to..” Pie cut Kim's words with her finger on Kim's lips. “Kim, don't do this to yourself. It was not your fault, it was my choice. I had a split second decision and I chose you Kim.” Kim held Pie's face and gave her a quick kiss. “Pie, it should be me doing the protecting, not you.” They both smiled, then Pie suddenly realized something.

Pie: “Kim, if you brought me here when I was shot, then that means, mother and father saw us time travel?”

Kim: “ Yes Pie. But I had no choice, I can't let you die because of me. Van will explain it to them. Don't worry about it, just rest for now. The doctor said you need plenty of rest. And uhm, Pie, if anyone asks you about how you got shot, just tell them you can't remember. You are Pie Mindara from abroad, alright?” Pie nodded.

Then someone knocked on the door and Kim opened it, a beautiful, tall woman entered. She looks familiar, strange. Then both Kim and the woman came to her. “Pie, this is Yam. My best friend, Yam. She knows about us, like I told you.” Then Kim turned to Yam. “Yam, this is Pie Mindara.” Oh, so she is Yam. The woman in Kim's phone. Pie and Yam's eyes meet, there was a hint of tension in the air and Kim could feel it so she got between them. “Pie, Yam brought us food and some clothes for you.” Yam smiled at Pie. “I hope they fit you, I was not really sure about your size.” Pie felt a bit of guilt in her. Oh, she is kind after all. I feel bad for thinking ill of her, she went out of her way to help me. “Thank you so much, Miss Yam.” Pie smiled at her. “Oh, please. Just Yam, there's no need for any formalities.” Yam and Kim giggled a bit and then Pie giggled as well. They all ate the food Yam brought them.

After their dinner, Kim tucked Pie in bed and let her rest. Yam helped her clean up. “Kim, I need to talk to you about something.” They went outside the room to speak.

Yam: “Kim, your dad is looking for you. He followed us to the coffee shop this morning.”

Kim: “What did he want?”

Yam: “He wants your forgiveness Kim.”

Kim: “Mine? What about mom's? No, I will never forgive him. He killed mom, he and that slimy he left mom for.”

Yam: “I understand you Kim, but maybe you could give him a chance. He is still your family Kim, your father.”

Kim: “No, he stopped being my father the day he left mom. And no, he is not my family. You, Yam. You are my family, you and Pie.” Kim's hand curled to a fist.

Yam: “Kim, he's sick.” Kim's eyes widened. “He has lung cancer. He said he wanted to apologize to you, for hurting you and leaving you.”

Kim: “You're a good person Yam, but you should never feel sorry for a man who left his wife and child over some brainless broad.”

Yam: “Alright Kim. I understand. By the way Kim, the doctors and cops are searching for Pie's records. We need to do something right away.”

Kim: “You're right. I think it's time to call an old friend.”

Yam: “No way Kim, you're calling her? But she's a...” Yam's voice turned into whisper. “She's a criminal.”

Kim: “Exactly, and a good one. That's why we need her. Trust me Yam, she's no saint but she's a true friend.” Kim winked at Yam and Yam can only sigh in annoyance.

Kim spent most of her time with Pie in the hospital, teaching her about the current era. Kim showed her the TV. “Pie, this is the television, or TV in short. It shows movies, news and and all other things to watch. Here, take a look.” Kim the TV, Pie was amazed at what she saw. She saw small people in the thin black rectangular object, riding miniature cars and going to miniature places. “Kim, you fit people in there? So, are there midgets that small to fit in that thing?” Kim almost laughed at what Pie said and Pie frowned. “No Pie, we use video cameras to record shows. Like the one my phone, you remember that right?” Pie nods. Later that afternoon, Yam brought her laptop to the hospital to work while she looks after Pie while Kim takes a shower. Pie looks at Yam's laptop like a curious child. Yam noticed it. “Pie, would you like to see this?” Before Pie could answer, Yam brought her laptop to Pie's side. Pie felt embarrassed and curious at the same time, but her curiosity took over her. After all, it's not everyday a person gets to time travel right? “Yam, what is that?” Pie curiously asked. “It's a laptop, a computer. You can do all sorts of things here, you are familiar with Kim's phone right?” Pie nods. Yam showed her how to browse the internet, how to type and all the functions of a laptop. “Pie, I don't know if I should show you what's in between 1914 and 2014. It's a paradox thing. I don't know if you will be staying here forever or you will go back to your own time. Knowing certain things in about the future and using that information when you go back to the past may have some consequences.” Yam explained. “Kim also spoke about that paradox you were talking about. She said that if we change anything in the past, it may have catastrophic consequences. She said that some things and some people may never exist. And that person of that thing may play a great role in the development of humanity. It scared me Yam, so believe me when I tell you that I will never use any information that I learned here, should I go back to my own time.” Yam giggled. “Hehe, that teenager sure scared you huh? Anyway, I believe you. I trust Kim, so trust you too.” Pie smiled. “She trusts you too Yam. You hold a special space in her heart.” Yam was taken back by what Pie said. “P-Pie, Kim's heart only belongs to you. Believe me, I've known her forever. So you don't need to worry.” Yam explained defensively. “Oh, silly. It's not that Yam. What I meant is that she is lucky to have you. She told me about you and what you did for her. You're her family, that is what she said. You're a good person Yam, and I thank you for helping a stranger like me. It means a lot to the both if us. Thank you, Yam. ” Yam's eyes started to tear but then Kim came out of the bathroom. Kim looked at the two and was puzzled by the way they looked. “Sup?” She said. “Yam was just about to show me the things that happened between 1914 and 2014.” Pie answered, Yam wiped her tears and smiled. “Yeah, so where shall we start?” Yam said. The three of them watched all major events that happened between 1914 and 2014. Most were wars, calamities, revolutions and plagues. But there were good ones as well, Pie's favorite was the moon landing. She cannot believe that it was possible

It was a very exhausting yet fun day for Pie, she learned more about Kim's world, the wonders and comforts it offers, as well as the dangers. In the evening, Kim slept on the floor while Yam slept on the couch. Pie was still awake though, thinking about everything that has happened. So, this is Kim's world. Everything seems to be so fast and convenient and everyone has the opportunity to be anything they want. I can stay here, be with my Kim, start fresh with her and be someone that I can never be in my own time. But then, mother and father will be worried about me. I need to go back after all. Pie sighed, she needed to go back to her parents, they may not always agree about everything but they are her parents, her family. It means I have to leave Kim? No.. Will Kim come with me? Will she leave her world for me? Those thoughts kept Pie awake all night.
