Chapter 7: Late Night Snack

chocolate CHIP COOKie

When they got home, they placed all the groceries they bought in the kitchen and the other stuff that they bought they put it in their room. The others went to their respective rooms to freshen up. Tiffany and Yuri stayed in the kitchen putting the foods in the fridge and the pantry.

Tiffany was finished with hers while Yuri was still working. She looked at the bag that contained the Santoku Knives she bought. She called Yuri by her name for the first time. The other girl looked at her and answered, “Yeah?” The girl still looked sad and Tiffany noticed that.

She handed the bag to Yuri, “This is the set of Colored Santoku Knife that we saw. I bought it for you because I noticed that you didn’t buy anything and you might need it since you cook. I won’t need it since I don’t cook,” she rambled.

Yuri didn’t answer but grab a hold on the bag.

Tiffany gulped before she said her next words, “I…I’m sorry about what I’ve said earlier.”

Yuri smiled, “I started it. I’m sorry. I also wanted to say sorry about what I’ve said to you when I first got here. It was wrong of me to judge you.”

Silence engulfed the whole kitchen.

Tiffany spoke when she felt that the eerie silence was somewhat suffocating her, “So… does this mean we’re not going to fight anymore and we’re… friends?”

Yuri stared at her then the bag. She shook her head multiple times and let out a scoff.

“What? Why are you doing that?”

Yuri held the knives up, “You bought a set of knives with the same color and it’s pink.”

Tiffany sighed in defeat, “What’s with you and pink? Why do you hate it so much?”

“I don’t hate it. It’s just… I’m not a big fan of pink but I don’t hate it. ‘Hate’ is a strong word,” she smiled again, wider this time.

“If you don’t want it then hand it over,” she reached her hand out towards Yuri.

“Why? You already gave it to me.”

Tiffany scowled at the girl, “Fine! Then keep it.” She started heading out but stopped midway when Yuri spoke.

“Hey, do you like chocolate chip cookies?”

“Why?” Tiffany turned to look at her, doubt filled her eyes, “Are you going to make a batch of poisoned cookies?”

“As much as I’d love to play the role of the evil step mom…” she stated sarcastically, “…no and you are certainly not Snow White.”

“Neither are you.”

“I’m going to make cookies for Sooyoung and I. I was thinking maybe you’d want some.”

She thought about it for a moment. She hasn’t eaten anything that her roommate cooked and everytime she sees the dishes made by the girl, she couldn’t help but to gulp. For the past couple of days, she let her pride win over her desire for good food but not now. Not when they are sort of in good terms and the taller girl was offering her cookies. How could she say no to cookies?

“Okay, then. But you and Soo taste it first and I’m gonna have to watch you while you make them just to make sure,” Tiffany said as she sat down on one of the bar stools.

Yuri prepared all the ingredients she needed to bake the chocolate chip cookies and proceeded to make it. She worked quietly while Tiffany watched intently. She eventually got bored and started talking. “Why are you making chocolate chip cookies for Sooyoung?”

“I’m not making it just for her. Weren’t you listening earlier?”

“Well, why the sudden craving for cookies. It’s 10 pm. I thought people aren’t supposed to eat after 7 pm.”

“Are you telling me people can’t eat late night snacks?”

Seeing no point in arguing with the girl she changed the subject, “So you and Soo are bonding over food?”

“Yup, we both eat, but she eats more, and I cook. On our first night here in the house, I made lasagna and I made a lot hoping that we could all eat the left over next morning. But she finished it all,” she laughed as she tells the story.

“Then last night, I made an egg pie. It wasn’t a small egg pie and when she finished it, she asked me to make another one,” she chuckled, “That tall girl has an appetite of a Blue Whale.”

“YAH! Yuri-ah, why are you bad mouthing me?” she hit Yuri’s shoulder lightly. “Please, don’t believe her, Tiffany. I was just hungry last night. I –“

“And the night after that.”

Sooyoung glared at her, “Yes. That’s not the point. I’m not usually like that. I don’t really eat too much.”

“Really?” Yuri asked in a teasing voice. “I made heaps of chocolate chip cookies. Too bad, then. I guess I have to wake every—“

“No. No. I can eat that. We can eat that. There are three of us,” she smiled but noticed something odd. She asked Yuri why Tiffany was with her. It’s not that she didn’t want the girl to be there and see her pig out, well, that last bit irks her a little but she was curious to know why they’re not arguing or slitting each other’s throats.

Yuri told her the whole story and she was glad that her new friend and the current apple of her eye were now getting along.

“We’re not going to be bff’s though and this doesn’t mean we’re going to hang out all the time. We’re just…too different.”

“I like her,” Sooyoung said out of the blue.

Yuri chuckled, “What do you mean you like her?”

“I like her,” she said in a dreamy tone, “I like her smile, her eyes…they smile when she smiles. Her hair I feel like touching them all the time. It looks silky smooth. I bet it is silky smooth,” she said as she tried to touch Yuri’s hair while she was imagining it to be Tiffany’s.

Yuri swatted the other girl’s hands, “You’re creepy.” She saw Tiffany coming in. The girl just got back from their room all decked in her pink hot pants and a pink tank top. “Don’t look now. You might drool when you see your object of desire,” she joked.

Sooyoung turned her head and saw Tiffany. “Tiffany, what the hell?!” It was her first time seeing the girl wearing that kind of apparel. They’ve been living in the same house for three days now but Tiffany always wore track pants and a tee.

Tiffany was confused. She didn’t know why Sooyoung shouted at her. “What? What is it?” Her eyes widened, “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! Is it a bug? Get it off me!” She started squealing and spinning as she was looking over her shoulders to see if there was something attached to her. She hated bugs more than anything. Cockroaches, my dream is to obliterate each and every one of your kind. She used to say whenever she sees one. She ends up running every time she sees one. Her mom would tell her that cockroaches have an immense importance. She would tell her that while she sprayed it with some insect repellent. Yeah right, mom. She’d always say.

Yuri watched and laughed as Sooyoung tried to calm the frantic girl.

“Tiffany, there’s no bug.”

“Why the heck were you shouting then? To top it all of you looked mortified.”

“Uhm…nothing. I was just…”

“Whatever.” She saw the cookies on the counter top and immediately grabbed one, “Can I have one? Thanks.” She took a bite. “Wow, this is so good!” She continued to eat and Sooyoung continued to stare.

“Sooyoung-ah, you’re not going to eat?”

No response.

“Yah!” she nudged the taller girl.

Still no response.

“Aish. You got it bad, Soo.”

Tiffany heard her, “What was that?”

“Nothing. Hey, did you forget what you said earlier? That Soo and I should taste it first.”

Tiffany nodded, “I’m not dead, right? I’m still alive and kicking so no need for that,” she continued munching on the cookies again.

Yuri decided to play a trick on the pink cookie monster, “Yeah. Well, good luck on dealing with your tummy. I put laxatives on that cookie.”

Tiffany looked at her in horror, “You did not.”

Yuri couldn’t help but let out a hearty laugh, “Yeah, maybe next time. We have classes tomorrow.”

“Don’t you dare! I saw how you were hugging that Mickey Mouse plush toy this morning. I’ll rip that rat’s head off if you pull off something like that.”

“Oh yeah?? Prepare to see your Hello Kitty covered in chocolate, then.”

They started bickering again. Sooyoung woke up from her reverie and stopped the two from going at it.

“Stop it. Yah! Yuri! Stop shouting at her.”

Yuri pouted and glared at her, “You are so biased, Soo. I won’t cook for you anymore.”

“Oh, come on!!” she turned to Tiffany and said in a soft tone, “Tiffany-ah…Fany-ah…”

Tiffany looked at her weirdly, “Fany-ah?”

“Yes. Your name is too long. Please, stop shouting at each other. You might wake up our neighbors.”

“Fine. I’ll go to sleep now. I don’t want to be late tomorrow. Good night, Soo.”

Sooyoung said good night, as well.

Yuri, however, wasn’t done irritating her roommate, “No ‘Thank you. Good night, Yuri.’ for me? Aish!” she shook her head but was grinning like a smug bastard.

“Yuri-ah, what did you say to her again?”

“I was just kidding. She started threatening me and using my Mickey plush toy so I had to retaliate.”

“Would it hurt to just let it slide and ignore it?”

“Yes. Night, Sooyoung. Clean those up,” she said, pointing at the dirty utensils on the sink.

“Yah!!!!!!”

Hi. :) Started reading this again the other day because i missed it so much... pagkatapos ko basahin, it reminded me again that this will forever be one of my fav yulti fanfics. It's light and fun to read, at hindi putchu putchung pagkasulat.
I didnt get to comment much in ssf so imma say it here.
I really just love love love how you've written evrything.
Like how they actually hated each othr at first then came yuri falling for her unconciously. It was heartbreaking to read the soofany parts and yuri getting hurt. Id say u did a good job putting in the emotions into us readers.
And i love both of their characters here, both have great temper, and they argue a lot. Its boring to read about them all cheesy and stuffs so yeah i like it best when they argue.

The only thing im kinda disappointed about is u'll be ending this with an epilogue.
Coz tbh, i wanna read more of their progress. Argue even more, introducing each other to their parents, argue more, more jealousy, future talks like marriage and stuffs. And maybe a little look to their pasts like past flings esp tiffany's. And yes i am demanding like that. Lol
But i think it wouldnt happen so imma just imagine it all on my head.
And also, Pinoy ka din. So i love you na. Hahaha
I really liked it when u wrote about those Pinoy references and even choosing CamSur.
May twitter ka ba? Pahenge naman pra ma follow kita. Mehehehe
Pro basta, yun na yun. I really love this fic. And i hope you'd write more yulti ff. More Power. Fighting! :)
