Chapter 58: Dust Storm

chocolate CHIP COOKie

“What are you doing here?” Yuri asked when she saw a familiar face sitting beside her in a class that that girl wasn’t enrolled in.

“I’m here to sit in on this class because I’m interested in learning…whatever it is that you’re learning here,” she answered, trying to act like she knows what she’s saying.

She leaned on the counter and grinned at her roommate. Tiffany was actually there because she was still bothered about what Sooyoung told her yesterday. She wasn’t able to question Yuri about it because the latter was with her family that day. It was something Yuri told her right after they got back from Japan but she was too sleepy to care.

“You could’ve at least worn something white. You stick out like a sore thumb with that pink shirt of yours. I don’t think they allow student to sit in on this class.”

Tiffany opened her bag and brought out a white hoodie. “Way ahead of you. I’m semi-incognito now plus you won’t be so heartless to tell the professor that I’m not in this class, right?

Yuri sighed and watched as Tiffany slipped her hoodie on. “Just don’t make any mess and don’t get me into trouble.”

Taeyeon was in the same class but didn’t notice her girlfriend’s sister’s presence. She seemed to be zoning out. A habit that she probably acquired from spending too much time with Jessica.

Tiffany, however, noticed the short girl. “Look at that idiot.”

Yuri turned her head just in time to witness Taeyeon’s expression. One second she was staring blankly, the next she was smiling to herself, blushing even.

“She’s probably thinking about my sister and how she defiled her,” she said in disgust but quickly retracted it. “Oh, who am I kidding? I’m happy my sister’s experiencing new things and she won’t die a .”

“I really don’t need to know that much, Fany.”

The girl beside her just shrugged and puffed her cheeks.

“So why are you really here?”

It took her approximately five seconds to remember her main goal in skipping her own class to attend a class that she’s not even enrolled in. “Oh, right. What the heck is this I hear about Krystal asking you out on a date?”

Yuri busied herself in arranging the tools in her counter as she answered Tiffany. “I wouldn’t call it a date. Who calls a birthday party of a classmate a date?”

The other girl pursed her lips and mumbled, “Apparently, Soo. Why isn’t Taeng invited then?”

Yuri chuckled. “Funny story. See the birthday girl, Sulli, doesn’t like Taeng that much.”

“Which part of that is funny?”

“I’m not really sure. Somehow I still feel a little angry at Taeng, you know, because of the whole Sica-Jae jealousy ordeal so I think people not liking Taeng is funny.”

Tiffany stared at her and grabbed the knife that her roommate was sharpening. “So are you going?”

“I guess. There’s no reason for me not to go.”

“Do you want me to give you one reason?”

Yuri arched an eyebrow.

“Wait, let me rephrase that.” She leaned on the counter, still gripping the knife and turned her head slowly to the right. “I don’t want you to go.”

“You saying that makes me want to go so badly now,” stated Yuri with a smirk on her face. “But I’ll be nice and ask you why…so why don’t you want me to go?”

“You don’t want to lead Krystal on, do you?”

Yuri was very confused. How exactly does attending to someone’s birthday party translate to leading someone on?

“Am I supposed to get what you just said?”

The shorter of the two sighed. “We’ve talked about this before, Yuri-ah. She likes you a lot and I don’t think going out with her, regardless of how many people are with you two, would make her think that you like her too. You could lead her on.”

“I don’t understand. I get that you’re jealous but I’ve already told you plenty of times that you don’t have to be. I’m in love with you, not her. Do I have to print it on a shirt and wear that shirt every day for you to remember it?”

Tiffany just stared before looking at the professor and pretending to listen to what he was saying. Next thing she knows, someone has dumped a salmon on their counter. She covered her eyes and took a peek only to close her eyes again and blindly search for a cloth to cover the fish’s eyes that she swore was looking at her.

“I do not like fish.”

“You have an awful timing then because today we’re going to be learning how to fillet a fish.”

“FML. This is Krystal’s fault.”

---

When the class ended, Taeyeon hurriedly made her way out of the room and she didn’t even notice Tiffany waving at her.

She just really wanted to go back home and see her girlfriend. She ran upstairs to their bedroom and was greeted by her girlfriend who looked gorgeous wearing her reading glasses. Everything Jessica is sporting would probably be attractive in Taeyeon’s eyes.

“Why are you panting?” Jessica asked, putting her pen in between the pages of her book before closing it and resting it on the bed side table.

“I missed you so I ran on my way home.” Taeyeon tossed her bag on the floor and got on her bed to hug the blonde girl. “I totally at the exercise today.”

Jessica pulled away from the hug and pinched her nose. “You smell. What exercise did you guys do?”

“We had to fillet a salmon.” She chuckled when she saw Jessica’s reaction. “All that was in my head while doing it was how much you hated it and I totally got distracted.”

Jessica hit her arm. “You can’t be distracted because of me,” she stated like it was something that’s so easy to do.

“But…”

“I’d feel guilty if you fail because you were too busy thinking about me.”

“I know but—“

“I would appreciate if you take a shower too like, right now.”

Taeyeo whined and pouted but eventually gave in.

Jessica smiled triumphantly and went back to what she was doing before she was disturbed yet again.

“Jessie.”

“This better be important, Tiff.”

“You’re unfair. You have so much time for Taeyeon and not even a minute to spare for your sister?”

“Shut up and speak,” Jessica ordered.

Tiffany grinned mischievously. “Be serious. What do you really want me to do?”

“Get out.”

She ignored what the older girl said. “Jessie, I don’t know what to do anymore. You’re happy with your love life. I’m so confused with mine. My ex-girlfriend seems to know what I feel better than I do. You know what I feel better than I do. So what am I supposed to do?”

“Just tell her that you love her already. Is it really that hard, Tiff? You’ve done it plenty of times before and most of the time you didn’t mean it.”

Tiffany scowled. “Low blow, Jess and that’s the thing, what if I tell her that and I realize later on that I don’t really mean it? I don’t want to hurt her.”

“Now you’re just being a coward and that’s not you. Don’t make me hit you hard in the head because I’m willing to do that to get my real sister back.”

“Should I really just tell her that I love her? I’m still not sure.”

Jessica grinned. “You’re never sure about anything, Tiff and it’s good to know that because it reassures me that the girl in front of me is still my stupid sister.”

She sighed as she remembered recent events, particularly her break up with Sooyoung and she couldn’t help but admit that Jessica was right. She never was sure about the decisions she make.

“You’re not much of a help.”

“That’s good because if I am then I’m going to have to charge a fee regardless if we’re sisters or not,” Jessica said before scribbling something on her notebook.

“Where’s that little koala of yours?”

“Koala?”

“Yeah. Small and clingy. You know what’s funny? You two really make a great pair. A koala and a sloth. Which brings me to my next topic, how was it? You promised to tell me yesterday but you never really did and I want an exact full detail of what happened on your first night together.”

“Okay, one, I’m not a sloth. Two, that’s just really creepy.”

“What is?”

“You wanting to know everything that happened.”

Tiffany nodded. “Now that I think about it, it kind of is. Just tell me one thing though, Taeng’s not awful in bed right?”

Jessica was aware that her girlfriend was within earshot and was probably listening since she couldn’t hear the sound of the water running anymore. She chuckled and said, “She’s great.”

“Really? My standard of great and your standard of great might be really different though. I could give her some pointers. If I would let anyone defile my sister, that someone better do the defiling pretty well.”

“No one’s defiling and getting defiled. Will you stop using that term?”

“I can’t. Got if from a TV series and I thought it was catchy. Defiled. Deeeefiled.”

Jessica closed her eyes as she tried to drown out her sister’s voices but failed. “If you don’t really have anything left to say, you should just go back to your own room.”

“Well, I actually want to have lunch with you on Saturday.”

---

Tiffany stared at the two girls in front of her, happily sharing a plate of ribs. It was a complete mistake inviting two of the biggest eaters in the group to lunch. The lunch that was disguised as a way to spy on Yuri and Krystal.

She found out that they were going to this restaurant to celebrate the birthday of Sujji or was it Sulli…whatever her name was. Tiffany didn’t really care. She had the brilliant idea of asking Jessica and Sooyoung to go with her just in case she gets caught. The two shikshins could be used as an alibi.

Jessica drank from her glass and leaned back. “Give me ten minutes and I’ll continue eating again.”

“Five minutes is all I need to finish all of these,” Sooyoung replied.

“Oh. Well, I guess I’m going to have to order again.”

“You’re going to be paying for the food that you’ll order next,” Tiffany stated.

“I don’t think that’s how ‘Have lunch with me. It’s my treat’ works.”

Her sister stared at the plates on their table. “You guys are eating way too much.”

Jessica narrowed her eyes before turning to Sooyoung who was still devouring whatever’s left on the plate. “Don’t you just feel so used, Soo?”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Tiffany asked.

“You dragged us here thinking that we won’t be able to figure out your sudden invitation for lunch. You didn’t think we’d be able to see Yuri and her classmates? They’re only a few tables away and even a ten-year old kid would be able to tell that you only brought us with you so you could spy on Yuri and give her a good enough reason as to why you’re here if she ever sees you.” Jessica smirked once she sees Tiffany glaring at her.

“Damn you. Fine. Eat whatever you want. My treat.”

Sooyoung chuckled along with Jessica but she suddenly felt guilty about something. “You should’ve invited Yoong, too.”

“No,” she answered flatly. “Two gluttons are enough.” She let the two continue eating every food in sight and focused on Yuri. So far she hasn’t witnessed anything that would irk her and cause her to possibly go to their table and drag Yuri away from them. Yuri’s not even sitting next to Krys—

“What the heck?” she blurted out when she saw the person sitting next to Yuri stand up. She also saw how the other people from that same table urged Krystal to sit at the now vacant spot next to Yuri. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she also heard them cooing once the two were seated next to each other. Needless to say, it infuriated her.

“Aww Krystal’s blushing,” Jessica said. “She really has a thing for Yuri, huh?”

“Yes,” her sister said but it came out sounding like a growl. It also didn’t help that Krystal’s friends were trying to play Cupid.

“You two would look cute as a couple.”

“You should feed each other.”

“You should just ask each other out.”

She heard them say and she couldn’t help but feel jealous. Why are these idiots even forcing Yuri to be with Krystal? She doesn’t even like her like that. I should know, she told me so,she thought.

The two girls that were with her knew how sour her mood was but all they could do was to eat silently. They know better than to deal with the ultimate green-eyed monster who was literally witnessing something that she loathes.

A couple of hours later, the people from Yuri’s table stood up and headed out, muttering something about going to a noraebang.

Their table was close to the entrance/exit of the restaurant so Tiffany didn’t have any problem about being caught. She was free to observe the two as they headed out. Although she wished she didn’t when she saw Yuri’s classmates playfully shoving her and Krystal so they’d stand next to each other. When Krystal held Yuri’s hand, she looked away and focused on a particular spot on their table.

“Uhh, Tiff, they’re gone. Don’t you think we should head home too?”

“You two go ahead. I’ll go back later.”

“Are you sure?” Sooyoung asked. It didn’t take much to figure out that her ex-girlfriend was upset because of what she saw.

“Yeah. I’ll stay here for a while.”

“Alright. Go home soon though. I heard there’s going to be a dust storm later in the afternoon.” She pulled Sooyoung along with her, leaving the sulking girl alone.

“Stupid Krystal. Stupid Yuri.”

---

Yuri was pacing back and forth, constantly looking outside the window for any sign of her roommate. She wanted to go out and personally look for her but her other housemates wouldn’t let her saying that it was enough to worry about one missing person.

“Why isn’t she answering her phone? That idiot,” she heard Jessica mumbled.

“Why didn’t you force her to go home with you when you knew that there’d be a dust storm?” she asked trying not to sound irritated.

“You can’t place the blame on us, Yul. The only reason she’s there in the first place was because she wanted to spy on you and Krystal. If you want to blame someone, point your finger at yourself. You know very well how jealous she can get. Holding hands with that chick, Krystal, was the cherry on top of that cake,” Sooyoug stated calmly as she on her favourite lollipop.

Yuri looked outside the window once again and was relieved to see a familiar figure walking towards their front lawn. She made her way outside not forgetting to cover her nose and mouth as she tried to grab the person inside their house.

When they got inside, she quickly closed the door and the girl in front of her leaned on it, rubbing her eyes.

“Hey, don’t,” she said as she pried away her hands away from her eyes. “Fany-ah, stop that. Stop rubbing it.”

Her instructions fell on deaf ear. “I said stop it.”

“But it freaking hurts!”

She gently led her to their kitchen so the shorter girl would be able to immediately wash the dirt out of her eyes. Yuri let her do just that while she ran to their bedroom to get a towel. When she got back, she saw Tiffany sitting on a stool and rubbing her eyes once again.

She walked towards the stubborn girl and held her hands. “I told you to stop doing that. It’ll only irritate it more.”

“But it itches and it hurts!”

“You clearly didn’t wash it well then.” She pulled her roommate and helped her to get rid of the dust in her eyes this time.

Tiffany was still upset at the tanned girl and kept a frown even when Yuri was helping her. It wasn’t until Yuri brushed off her bangs and proceeded on drying her face with the towel that she noticed Tiffany’s frown.

“You shouldn’t have done that,” she said in a stern voice.

“Why are you even here? Shouldn’t you be with Krystal and her group of friends who just seem to love the idea of you two dating?”

“Look, I’m sorry I let her hold my hand. Next time that happens, I’ll swat it away. You’re the only one I give permission to hold my hand, does that sound nice?”

When she saw Tiffany’s grin, she had to admit that it took a lot of self-control to not hit the side of her head. “I wasn’t serious, Fany. That would be rude but I am giving you permission to hold my hand any time you want.”

The shorter girl grimaced before snatching the towel from Yuri and storming out of the kitchen.

“Fany, I’m not going to go after you.” She silently prayed that her roommate would come back. “I’m really not going to chase you this time. Nope! Not gonna happen,” she stated with a louder voice this time.

She eventually moved from her spot to chase after Tiffany. When she didn’t in the living room, she went straight to their bedroom.

She sighed when she saw Tiffany sitting on her bed with her back against the wall and hugging her knees.

“Please stop sulking.” She sat down right across Tiffany and put a hand on top of the latter’s knee. “You shouldn’t really be jealous over something like that though.”

“That’s not an apology.”

“I wasn’t apologizing.”

“Well you better start apologizing now.”

Yuri rubbed her temples to prevent the oncoming headache from happening. She contemplated on whether to a) apologize for something so petty or b ) let the girl be upset for the remainder of the day. “I…I love you.” Or c) none of the above.

“W—I, well…”

Yuri chuckled and sat next to her. “You’re not even sure what you feel for me and you’re getting jealous because Krystal held my hand.” She immediately hugged Tiffany as soon as she saw a pout forming on the latter’s lips.

“No fair. That doesn’t change the fact that I got jealous and you didn’t even bother stopping her from holding your hand.”

Yuri didn’t respond and placed a kiss on her forehead instead. After a few minutes, the two of them shifted into a more comfortable position with Yuri lying on her back and Tiffany’s head resting on the tanned girl’s shoulder.

“Fany-ah.”

“Hmm?”

“Did you walk home?”

Tiffany shook her head a bit. “I sort of hijacked a cab. I forced the driver. We stopped at the wrong house though.”

“You weren’t able to see well because of the dust storm?”

Tiffany nodded.

“You should’ve called.”

“What would you have done if I did?”

“Go out and pick you up myself of course.”

“Right because that’s what you did,” she said sarcastically.

“They didn’t let me go out to look for you speaking of which, where were you?”

“I stayed at the restaurant.”

“Doing what?”

“Staring at the people outside. Drinking beer.”

Yuri giggled. “Typical Tiffany.”

“Tch! I hate you.”

“I love you.”

“I hate you a lot.”

“I love you as much as you hate me.”

Tiffany responded by hitting her roommate’s tummy.

“Ow! What was that for?”

“If you love me as much as I hate you then that means you don’t love me at all.”

“B-but you just said you hate me a lot!”

“I don’t,” Tiffany said. Yuri didn’t have to see her face to know that she was pouting.

“You are so complicated.”

For a moment, the two just lay there until Yuri broke the silence again.

“I love you.”

She was expecting Tiffany not to answer. She was even expecting a playful shove but that didn’t happen.

It took her a while to answer but she eventually did. “I love you too.”

Yuri didn’t dare to speak again and just smiled contently.

Hi. :) Started reading this again the other day because i missed it so much... pagkatapos ko basahin, it reminded me again that this will forever be one of my fav yulti fanfics. It's light and fun to read, at hindi putchu putchung pagkasulat.
I didnt get to comment much in ssf so imma say it here.
I really just love love love how you've written evrything.
Like how they actually hated each othr at first then came yuri falling for her unconciously. It was heartbreaking to read the soofany parts and yuri getting hurt. Id say u did a good job putting in the emotions into us readers.
And i love both of their characters here, both have great temper, and they argue a lot. Its boring to read about them all cheesy and stuffs so yeah i like it best when they argue.

The only thing im kinda disappointed about is u'll be ending this with an epilogue.
Coz tbh, i wanna read more of their progress. Argue even more, introducing each other to their parents, argue more, more jealousy, future talks like marriage and stuffs. And maybe a little look to their pasts like past flings esp tiffany's. And yes i am demanding like that. Lol
But i think it wouldnt happen so imma just imagine it all on my head.
And also, Pinoy ka din. So i love you na. Hahaha
I really liked it when u wrote about those Pinoy references and even choosing CamSur.
May twitter ka ba? Pahenge naman pra ma follow kita. Mehehehe
Pro basta, yun na yun. I really love this fic. And i hope you'd write more yulti ff. More Power. Fighting! :)
