Meatballs

Slowly But Surely

CL tossed and turned nervously in her old bed, her eyes refused to shut as uneasiness took over her. ‘You wouldn’t do that Chaerin-shi.’ The mysterious, male voice kept replaying itself over and over again like a broken record, haunting her thoughts. Who was he? What could he possibly want from her? How did he even get her phone number in the first place? Nobody knew.

She rolled over her bed again, pulling the covers over her body as she did, in the hopes of getting a little sleep. But before she knew it, the sun was already up and shining through the bedroom curtains. Seeing that she wouldn’t get a tiny bit of sleep as she had hoped, CL decided to get up and take a long, relaxing bath to ease her mind. After thirty minutes or so, she stepped out of the bathroom and was greeted by a knock on the door. It was Minzy, informing her that breakfast was ready, in which CL replied with a simple, “Be there in a minute.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay a bit longer?” asked Bom with a concerned expression, “You can wait for Himchan to pick you up here, you know,” she further suggested, hoping that their leader would listen.

CL just gave the eldest eonnie a warm smile. Everyone has been worrying about her ever since she told them about the mysterious calls, and she’s very thankful for that. They have advised her to report the matter to the police but she refused, saying that she would only do that if the guy called her again. And although she knew that it probably wouldn’t be safe for her to be alone right now, she really wanted to go home and wait for her husband. “It’s okay eonnie. I know you’re worried about me, but I’ll be fine,” she assured.

“But Himchan isn’t coming back until noon, right?” Dara now joined in the conversation, not quite convinced by their leader’s words.

“Yeah, but don’t worry, I’ve got plans,” CL chuckled innocently, causing the two to raised their eyebrows, “I’m going to cook for him,” she chuckled again, more shyly this time.

“Aigo, uri eonnie is so sweet,” Minzy chirped out of nowhere, startling the three.

After a few more attempts of convincing CL to stay, Dara and Bom finally gave up. As usual, nobody could talk the leader out of something once she’s set her mind to it. With a heavy heart, the three ladies waved their goodbyes as the van slowly drove off – but not before they repeatedly telling her to call them immediately if the mysterious caller was disturbing her again and reminding their manager to stay and keep on a lookout.

Before going home, CL decided to make a pit stop at a supermarket not that far from her apartment. It wasn’t hard for her at all to decide what to cook for her husband. Fortunately for her, Himchan’s favourite food was pasta – one of her specialties in cooking. And because he really loved meat as well, she decided to go with the classic, spaghetti meatballs. Nothing could ever go wrong with that. Shopping for ingredients went pretty smoothly, she got everything she needed from one place – minced beef, eggs, tomatoes, basil leaves, parmesan cheese, etc.

Her mood was beyond excited until the uneasiness from this morning came back. As she pushed the cart towards the checkout counter, she had this very strange feeling in her gut, like someone was watching her. She cautiously looked around to see if there’s anyone who looked suspicious but there was none. Everyone looked pretty normal, like regular people on their usual grocery shopping trips. But still, she got chills all over her body.

“Hey, are you okay?” the voice of her manager brought her back from her trance.

“Oh, y-yeah,” she answered, blinking her eyes nervously.

“Okay,” the manager was a bit skeptical with her reply but he just shrugged it off, “Let me help you with these,” he continued, taking the cart from CL and pushed it towards the counter.

CL was doing some final touches to the spaghetti sauce when Himchan arrived. “Baby, I’m home,” he sing-songed merrily as soon as he came in.

“In the kitchen,” she simply replied, still a bit preoccupied with her cooking.

Himchan stood by the kitchen door wearing a wide grin on his face as he eyed his busy wife’s body from head to toe, taking in every curve that he knew so well. He then let out a low grunt when he noticed that CL seemed to ignore his presence in the kitchen. “Are you really not going to greet your husband?” he asked, frowning.

CL turned around and instantly giggled upon seeing her husband’s sad, baby face. “Trying to win me with your aegyo again, I see,” she rolled her eyes playfully before shifting her focus back to the sauce.

“Hmph, my baby is being so mean again,” CL jumped a little when she felt a pair of arms wrapping around her waist from behind, her hair.

Slowly, she turned around to see her husband face-to-face, encircling her arms comfortably around his neck. Himchan’s arms were still around her waist as their eyes met and gazed into each other lovingly. They stayed like that, smiling happily and staring deeply into each other’s eyes, for quite a while. Himchan heaved a sigh before he began leaving a trail of kisses on her beautiful face – starting with a peck on her perfectly pointy nose, moving to her forehead, then her eyelids, and finally locking their lips together. It was a long and passionate kiss, and so full of love. They both smile through their kiss. “Man how I’ve missed you so much,” their lips still blushing together as Himchan whispered with that deep, y voice of his.

CL pulled him for another kiss, completely forgetting about her cooking. His lips are like a drug to her, they’re soft and taste so sweet, and they fit perfectly with hers, she could never get enough of them. “Seems like someone’s been missing me too, huh?” Himchan teased, and the blush on her cheeks was evident enough that he was right.

“I didn’t say that! You’re so full of yourself, Kim Himchan,” CL stuck her tongue out, pushing him away from her but to no avail as Himchan quickly pulled her by her waist and trapped her in his arms tightly once again.

“I’m not done with you yet,” he winked before kneeling down on one knee to kiss her pregnant belly, “How are my babies doing? Have you been good to your mommy? Did you miss me? Because daddy misses you guys so much,” CL could only shake her head, giggling at her husband’s usual cute antics.

Himchan continued talking to their unborn children for another two minutes or so, and CL had to resort to threatening him that she wouldn’t sleep with him tonight in order for him to stop and let her to finally go back to her cooking. Being the caring husband he was, Himchan offered to help his wife, only to be rejected coldly soon after.

[HIMCHAN’S POV]

I was so happy to finally be back home. I missed her, I missed her so bad. Never could I have ever imagined to love and to want somebody so bad in my entire life. Being apart from her was torture, it was hell. Call me exaggerating or whatever, but I literally felt like dying. Poor Yongguk, he had to listen to each and every one of my whining for the past three days we’re together. To finally see her face and her beautiful smile, and to finally have her in my arms were bliss. I wish I could just hold her in my arms forever and never let go.

She was cooking in the kitchen when I got back home, and to know that she did it especially for me, I felt really special. I was beyond happy but there’s a tiny part of me that’s worried, that’s scared that she’d injure herself or something, and with that in mind, I thoughtlessly offered to help. However as usual, she wouldn’t let me. Man, sometimes I wished that she wouldn’t be so stubborn. Being persistent as I usually was, I tried again one more time, “Can I at least help you prepare the table?”

She turned around, with a frown on her face, but what came out of next rather surprised me. “Yes, go ahead,” she sighed, and although I knew that she’s somewhat annoyed, I couldn’t help but smile.

I quickly took out all the necessary cutlery and organised them neatly on the dining table. Then I hurried into our bedroom and took a couple jasmine scented candles that we personally made not long ago and placed it at the center of the table before lighting them. CL gave me a confused look, but I just gave her an excited smile. After ten minutes or so, lunch was finally ready and served. The smile on my face grew wider when I saw two plates of very delicious looking spaghetti meatballs placed on the table.

“Omo! How did you know that I was craving for spaghetti meatballs?” I asked almost too excitedly while pulling out a chair for her to sit.

“I’m psychic,” she replied simply with a straight face and shrugged, and I couldn’t help but giggle a bit.

Once I had pushed her chair in, I hurried towards mine just across of hers and took a seat, the big smile still plastered on my face. “They look so yummy, baby. Thank you,” I blushed a little when she started to giggle, feeling like a total idiot for being overly excited over a food.

But it wasn’t just any food! It was CL’s cooking, my wife’s cooking! And it was my favourite food, too. It’s only normal for a husband to be feeling that way, right?

“So are you going to eat your food or are you just going to keep staring at it?” her voice suddenly snapped me away from my thoughts and I, once again, started to blush like crazy.

I wondered if it was even okay for a guy to blush like the way I did. The things CL did to me, damn. She’s already started eating when I twirled my spaghetti and I couldn’t help but notice the portions of pasta in her plate and mine. “How come you have more spaghetti and meatballs than me?” I asked, a bit confused.

“Duh,” she rolled her eyes, pointing at her pregnant belly, causing me to giggle like an idiot.

“Oh, right. My baby is eating for three. Here, have more meatballs then,” I was more than happy to give her half of my share.

“B-but-”

“Just eat, I am thankful enough that you cooked all of this for me. Thank you again, baby girl,” I smiled.

“Are you sure? Oh my god, thank you, Channie,” she replied almost too excitedly before devouring the pasta like there was no tomorrow, I could only shake my head in amusement and smile even more.

After we’re done eating, I offered to help clean the dishes. It’s only fair for me to do so since she’s done all the cooking by herself. Thankfully, she let me help her this time. I was just about to put on my apron when the doorbell interrupted me. We both looked at each other, stunned. “Were you expecting anyone?” I asked.

Before she could answer my question, her phone rang. “It’s okay, I’ll get the door,” I said almost hesitantly, somehow something felt rather weird and I kind of had a feeling that I shouldn’t open the door.

[CL’S POV]

I didn’t bother looking at the caller ID when I answered the phone and man, did I regret for doing so.

“Annyeonghaseyo, Chaerin-shi,” my heart literally dropped when I heard that creepy voice on the other line once again.

A part of me was very disturbed, but another part of me was scolding myself for forgetting to inform Himchan about it. I really wanted to tell him once he arrived but I guess I was too busy cooking that it somehow slipped my mind. And now, I wasn’t quite sure what to do – whether to reply and play along with the guy or just end the damn call and report him to the police. There was a long moment of silent before I heard him chuckling from the other line, “Why aren’t you saying something Chaerin-shi? Are you, by any chance, afraid of me?”

That’s it. That was enough to wake the angry lion inside me. “I am not and I do not have any reason to be ing afraid of you. Just leave me alone, you monster!”

Once again, I could only hear him laughing. Damn, this dude was beyond crazy. “Leave you alone?” he asked with that low, creepy voice of his, “That’s the last thing I would do. I am just starting, Chaerin-shi. And I believe that your husband has something that belongs to you,” he continued before abruptly ending the call.

I froze on my spot, staring blankly at my phone. What did I just hear? What did he mean by he was just starting? Starting what?

“Hey babe, there’s a package with your name on it,” Himchan suddenly came into the kitchen, interrupting my thoughts; he was holding a box in his hands.

‘I believe your husband has something that belongs to you.’

Oh. My. God. He’s here. The freaking stalker was here at my freaking apartment.

“Babe, are you okay? Why are you shaking like this?” Himchan asked, panicked, and immediately ran towards me.

I didn’t even realise that I was shaking horribly until Himchan held me tightly with his arms. But I was frozen, still. Speechless. “Babe, talk to me! Why are you acting this way? What happened? Who called you?”

“C-Channie, he knows where we live.”
