Christmas Part II - Christmas Tree

Slowly But Surely

Shopping with Yongguk and Zelo was a lot of fun that CL lost track of time. It was almost midnight when she came home. She hummed a Christmas carol cheerfully as she walked into their apartment with a handful of shopping bags. To her surprise, Himchan was already home, waiting for her by the kitchen door with his arms crossed.

“You’re back so late,” he hissed, glaring at his wife.

“Oh, thank you very much for being such a kind husband. These bags are so light, even lighter than a feather,” replied CL sarcastically.

Himchan quickly grabbed some of the bags from her hands and placed them carefully on the floor. “These are-” his eyes narrowed on the things in the bags.

“Christmas ornaments. I went shopping a little,” she said monotonous and the air suddenly felt so awkward.

Himchan, finally realising that he had hurt his wife a little bit, immediately approached her and wrapped his arms around her waist, giving her a back hug. Unfortunately for him, CL backed away, leaving him dumbfounded. “Look, I’m sorry okay? I was just worried about you,” he apologised, trying to gain CL’s attention with his signature aegyo faces.

CL just heaved a sigh. She really wanted to punish him for being so childish but she just couldn’t. She could never stay mad at him for so long, not with that cute charm of his. “It’s okay. I actually appreciate you worrying about me,” CL said softly as her face began to heat up from embarrassment.

Being all nice and lovey dovey with a guy was a new thing for her. She couldn’t really control herself from being way too shy or looking like a fool in front of her husband, especially when they’re being all sweet like normal couples do. She’s slowly learning and adapting to the new situation, though. And she was actually grateful that Himchan kind of made everything a little less awkward for her. There’s just something about him that made things feel so natural.

Himchan smiled, thinking of how happy he was for having such an understanding wife. “I’m still quite upset, though,” he pouted and CL just looked at him, confused, “I was actually thinking of doing some Christmas shopping with you,” he continued and went to sit on the couch in their living room.

CL followed after and sat down next to him. “Sorry, I just didn’t want to disturb you,” she sighed, nudging him lightly with her elbow, “I know that you’ve been really busy these days. And that you’re really tired. I was just-” and her sentence was interrupted by yet another surprise kiss from Himchan.

“You really got to stop doing that,” cried CL as she pushed him away.

“Why? You don’t like me kissing you?” asked Himchan rather baffled.

“N-no,” CL stuttered.

“No?!” exclaimed Himchan with wide eyes.

“I mean, I do like you kissing me. But-” Himchan pulled her in for another kiss before she could even finish her sentence, “But- but- but-” she began stuttering again after he pulled away; and a big playful smile was plastered on Himchan’s face.

CL just sat there, completely frozen. It wasn’t like Himchan has never done this to her before, though. In fact, he’s done this several times and it never failed to make CL all paralysed and speechless. Himchan giggled as he rummaged through the shopping bags. “So many ornaments and yet we don’t have a Christmas tree,” he sighed.

“This is not fair! You always surprise me with… with…” CL’s tongue suddenly got stuck.

“Surprise you with what?” Himchan smirked.

“Aish! Nevermind. I’ll get my revenge someday,” replied CL frustrated and flicked his forehead rather roughly, causing him to shriek a little, “And by the way, I’ve bought a Christmas tree. It’ll arrive tomorrow. So we can start with the decorations tomorrow if you want. For now, I’m tired and I’m going to bed,” she said bluntly before heading straight to her room, leaving Himchan dumbfounded once again.

***

Exhausted, CL woke up quite late the next morning. She rolled around lazily in her bed, having no desire to get up just yet. A smile slowly crept on her face at the thought of their kiss last night. ‘Aish, Channie! Why do you always make me feel like a teenager all over again?’ she covered her face with her blanket, embarrassed by her own thought.

Loud noises from outside then brought her back from her trance. She immediately got up and went to check what was going on, without even bothering how she looked like at that point of time. “What’s going on?” she asked while rubbing her still sleepy eyes.

Himchan, however, was too busy helping a couple of middle-aged men to answer his wife. Their tree has finally arrived. Both CL and Himchan were beyond thrilled about it. Himchan then thanked the men politely and gave them two cups of coffee and some sandwiches before guiding them to the door. ‘How sweet,’ CL thought, smiling from ear to ear.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” asked Himchan with confused eyes.

“Nothing. Nothing, really,” CL replied shyly.

Himchan just giggled at his wife and went back into the kitchen. CL followed him and instinctively sat down by the counter. “We can start decorating once I get something to fill your empty stomach,” said Himchan softly as he flipped an egg in a pan.

CL smiled, waiting eagerly to eat breakfast that her husband personally made for her. She wanted to give him a hand but Himchan, being his stubborn self, didn’t let her. “It’s my turn to cook. You just sit there and admire your husband’s cooking skills silently,” he ordered.

“Pfft,” she hissed jokingly.

“What? Do you want me to do that again?” he threatened her with a smirk on his face.

CL’s eyes widened. She just shook her head rather nervously, causing Himchan to laugh. “You are so cute when you’re all nervous. Didn’t think teasing you could be this much fun,” he chuckled.

A bit flustered, CL immediately stood up and pouted her lips at Himchan. She was about to leave when he suddenly grabbed her by her waist and pulled her into his embrace. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to-” Himchan’s eyes widened when CL suddenly leaned forward and kissed him.

“Now we’re even,” she smirked.

“Oh no, we’re not. I kissed you-” his sentence was cut off by another surprise kiss from CL.

“Are we even now?” asked CL, batting her eyelashes innocently.

“Umm… nope. One m-” this time, a smile crept onto the corner of Himchan’s lips when CL leaned in for another kiss, “Now we’re even,” he winked.

CL’s face turned crimson red. She suddenly regretted doing whatever she just did. She has never done any of this before. Never ever in her whole life. It’s really driving her crazy that Himchan’s able to bring out this side of hers that she didn’t even know existed. She buried her face in his chest, trying to hide her reddened face. Himchan took this opportunity to hug her even tighter and rested his chin on her head. “You don’t know how much you’ve driven me crazy, Lee Chaerin,” he whispered, causing CL to blush even more.

They hugged each other tightly for quite a while until a burnt smell suddenly interrupted them. Himchan immediately rushed back to the stove, trying to save his cooking while CL just laughed looking at her husband all panicked. “Do you need any help now?” she chuckled.

[HIMCHAN’S POV]

People call me a ‘fan pabo’. Right now, I think I could also add ‘CL pabo’ into my growing list of nicknames. I couldn’t really point a finger at exactly what it is but there’s just something about her that makes me want to give all that I have. I tried, I really tried not to smile whenever she’s around me but I just couldn't. I wasn’t even like this when I was with Hyosung noona. It’s weird how we’ve changed from only mere acquaintances to this sweet, happy married couple in just a few months. Or maybe it’s not that weird at all.

“Channie, are you going to help me or what?” she asked me with her naturally cute expression, it’s driving me insane.

I crossed my arms and shook my head, stifling a laugh. Teasing her has definitely become one of my hobbies these days. “Channie!” she yelled and punched my stomach quite strongly, so strong that I yelped in pain.

Another thing about Chaerin – she never failed to surprise me. I finally gave up when she gave me a very intense glare. I swear, she looked really scary right then and there. “You can rest for a bit, let me continue with the decoration,” I said as I guided her to sit on the couch.

Of course, she refused. She’s a perfectionist for crying out loud, what was I even thinking? We ended up spending the entire day decorating our every part of the apartment with Christmas ornaments joyfully. We cracked some silly, lame jokes every now and then, and we laughed until we cried. We both had a really great fun time.

“And we are done!” I shouted as I put the last ornament onto the Christmas tree.

We admired our masterpiece for a moment and I slowly s my arm around her waist and pulled her closer. It was evident from her smile that CL was really happy looking at the tree. I couldn’t help but to steal a few glances at her and smiled myself. “Let’s go out,” she suddenly suggested, her eyes sparkled with excitement.

“Out?” I asked, bit puzzled.

“Yes, out. On a date, our first date,” she replied happily and I couldn’t really believe what she has just said.

I just stood there, motionless and speechless. “Channie, come on! It’ll be fun,” she said as she batted her eyelashes cutely at me.

How could I say no to that? “But what if people found out?” I was mad at myself for saying that but I couldn't help but to be a bit worried.

She then ran to her room and came back wearing a grey hoodie. She hid her hair inside her shirt, pulled the hood up to cover her head and she then put on a hat over the hoodie. “Tadah! I’m Bang Yongguk!” she chuckled and I almost choked on my own laughter.

“Oh hello, Bang Yongguk. Since when did you get so pretty?” I joked.

“You think I’m pretty?” she asked cutely, again.

“No, I said Bang Yongguk. Not you.” I teased, sticking my tongue out.

“Fine! Then forget about the date!” she pouted as she stomped towards the couch.

“Alright, alright. I was joking. Of course I think you’re pretty, wifey,” I said the truth.

“Really?” she sounded a bit doubtful; and I nodded, “Okay, then. I’m going to pretend that you’re telling me the truth. Now, let’s go!” she continued, still not believing what I said.

“But first, let’s put on some more warm clothes. I don’t want my baby to catch a cold or anything,” I said with a smile as I helped her put on her coat.

“Your baby, huh?” she smirked and I suddenly felt my cheeks heating up.

She was looking at me with those beautiful eyes of hers. I couldn’t look her straight in the eyes without having the urge to kiss her again. I had to control myself because I was afraid that I might just do more than just a kiss. And so, I avoided her gaze and just asked her where she’s taking me.

“Just follow me, okay? You’ll find out when we get there,” she replied with big smile.

We walked and walked for approximately fifteen minutes and she still wouldn’t let me know where we’re heading. I was really curious and it’s really driving me nuts inside. But I also didn’t want to be an annoying husband and ask her too many questions so I just followed her lead instead.

TO BE CONTIUNED.
