You sighed as you sat on the couch looking at your Christmas tree. You had been planning on spending the day with your boyfriend, Sanghyun. Unfortunately, he had gotten called into work early this morning. He promised he would try to be home soon, but since idol life was unpredictable, he didn’t have much control over his schedule.

After he was called away, you spent most of the afternoon trying to busy yourself with small tasks that you could easily drop if Sanghyun came home. However, you quickly ran out of things to do, which had resulted in you staring at the beautifully lit tree. The rest of the room was dark, so the glowing tree cast a soft light around it.

As you sat, you felt tears start to well up in your eyes. You had planned out things you would do during your first Christmas together. You wanted to establish traditions with him. You wanted to exchange gifts, and make Christmas cookies. You wanted to wear cute matching pajamas while you had breakfast. All those things slipped away from you when he was called to work.

Your tears started to fall as you wondered if other holidays would be like this. You wondered if Sanghyun would always be tugged away from you during holidays for work. Sure being an idol was demanding, but would he never get to spend time with you on these sorts of occasions? Shouldn’t fans be busy with friends and family rather than going to a concert or watching one on tv?

You looked up at the clock and sighed. It was almost midnight. Christmas would be over soon and you hadn’t spent hardly any time with Sanghyun. You sighed and got up. You decided to leave the tree on for the night and turned to go into your bedroom.

After changing into the new pajamas you had gotten for yourself and Sanghyun, you climbed into bed and let your tears finally fall. You found comfort with that fact that he would at least never know you cried over something like this. Sanghyun would feel so guilty if he knew you had cried. You wiped your tears away and settled into bed.

The next morning you were being jostled awake. You opened your eyes to see Sanghyun smiling down at you. As he came into focus, he started pulling you up. 

“Come on Jagi! We can’t spend all day sleeping!”

“Oppa, what are you doing?” You asked groggily.

“I know we couldn’t spend the real Christmas day together, but I’m hoping today can be our substitute. We can do everything and anything you want to do.” He said with a smile. He turned to you when he finally had you dragged out to the living room. You noticed then that he was wearing the matching pajamas and you smiled.

“You won’t have to go into work?” Your question was hesitant. You didn’t want to make him feel bad for leaving yesterday.

“Nope! The entire day is here for just you and me.” He emphasized this point by pulling his phone out of his pocket, turning it off, and setting it on the coffee table. A smile formed on your face as you watched this act. “I’m all yours today Jagi. What do you want to do?”

You quickly began listing everything you had wanted to do with Sanghyun yesterday. He laughed, smiled, and nodded as he listened. He took your hand as you spoke, beaming at you.

“Okay, we can do all of that. But before we make breakfast, we should exchange gifts.” He then got up and went back to the bedroom. When he emerged a few seconds later, he was holding a little kitten. He walked over to you and handed you the little animal. “I know you like Dadoong, but he doesn’t live at our apartment. And I wanted one that felt like ours. What should we call her?”

You stared down at the adorable kitten in your arms. She looked up at you with big eyes and you suddenly got an idea. You softly whispered a combination of your’s and Sanghyun’s names. You made eye contact with him and he smiled at you.

“That’s beautiful. It’s like she is really our daughter.”

“We’re a little family now.” You said, smiling at the kitten that had buried herself in your arms for warmth. You looked up at Sanghyun and kissed his cheek. “Merry Christmas Oppa.”

“Merry Christmas Jagiya.”
