Question 291
Suju Advice Columnsekaiworld
Sorry... Another problem I have:
I'm in a symphony and honestly I have no passion for music as a future career. I don't think I am talented in music, though I like it as a hobby. I'm more of a athletic person, and don't want music to be that much of my future. I would actually think this symphony was fun, IF, I wasn't the youngest person there! Everyone else is at least 6 years older than me! I've only played the viola for about a year and I don't think I'm advanced enough anyways! None of the other 2nd violas know what they are doing either so I can't really ask for help!
I want to quit, but my mother claims I never do anything else. She won't let me. I tell her I will do sports, but she refuses. But now she's making me do sports WITH symphony! I have no time anymore! I tell her I want to quit but she tells me I am simply not working hard enough. She doesn't really understand since her parents weren't rich enough to pay for an instrument. I tried teaching her and she herself hates it so I don't know why she forces me to do so. My mother forces both my sister and I to constantly do things we do not enjoy and she always tells us it's because we don't work hard enough, and we can do anything. I think she just doesn't understand but I don't know how to make her know that honestly things are too hard for me! I've tried talking it through to her but she will not listen to me at all.
I got one A- last semester and my mother was deeply disappointed, she told me it would drop to a B and a C and lower and lower! It's only because I couldn't study because I was in this symphony last semester on top of volleyball and basketball! My symphony takes up a LOT of time, it is three days a week and each session is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Plus I have to practice harder than everyone else, (since they are much more talented than I am.) so I just can't handle everything... My health isn't as good anymore due to lack of sleep and sometimes I just look like a mess.
Thank you :)
Henry: I have a theory!
Donghae: Go ahead Henry!
Henry: Well I think since your mother wasn't rich enough to afford an instrument and do the things you do, she's forcing you too much. She's trying to push you to do all the things she couldn't when she was your age.
Heechul: I agree with Henry. I think maybe she wants what's best for you. She thinks you deserve better.
Sungmin: That's nice and all but she's pushing her too hard! You should really try to talk to her about how this is affecting your health and to let her follow your own dreams.
Heechul: She needs to let you make your own decisions because in the end you both just might end up unhappy.
Hangeng: Good luck!
Donghae: And if you do decide to just stay with music and sports try and manage your schedule and take lots of mini naps. That's how we do it.
Eunhyuk: Yeah if SJ can do several things at once so can you!
Everyone: FIGHTING!~
