Hospital Bed

Grenade

-REPOSTED IN CASE OF TROUBLE-

Author’s note:Hello, dearest subscribers! I’m really sorry for not updating for a long, long and long period of time. You see, I’ve been quite busy with school works (graduating students’ luck). And also, I’ve been working my best to think what to do next in this story and to my other stories.

Well, anyways, here is the new chapter. Sorry for the grammar errors and spelling mistakes.

“Sooyoung!” He shouted as she fell in his arms. Luckily, he has strength that day (with all the hassles from here and there). He jammed the off-guard Sooyoung. “Sooyoung!”

He then carried the girl—bridal style—in a swift motion. He called the attention of one of the resting taxi drivers around the corner, shouting: “Help! I need help!” In a second, the best friend couple was inside the taxi.

He didn’t look away at her pale face. He caressed her now-thin face—the liveliness in her face was gone. All thanks to love, she has no reason to be happy. He felt a sudden urge inside him to cry. But no; a man as he is, he forced himself not to cry. Besides the reason that the taxi driver keeps on looking at him (he thought the two are lovers), but he knew Sooyoung so well—she doesn’t want to see him crying. But this is not the time to deliberate things, he thought. He then startled the taxi driver. “Ahjussi, go faster!”

After a few minutes, the two arrived at the emergency room of the hospital. The nurses were quick for they managed to place her in the hospital bed in one swift. “No wounds,” said the nurse that checked her. “What happened to her? Why is she unconscious?”

Kibum was nervous for he was uncertain. “I—I… really don’t know. She was weak when I saw her.”

“Seems like you played in the rain,” said the nurse, “you’re drenched.”

“We… we stayed under the rain for long.” A sudden thought enter his mind. “T—then her temperature started t—to heat up.”

“We should check her body temperature. Please do hope that she got no pneumonia.” The nurse then left. He saw no signs of her; they already transferred her to the restricted are of the emergency room. He then sat on a chair nearby—waiting area—and reflected. He recited every prayer he knows.

She could possibly have gotten pneumonia by now. Her resistance isn’t that strong enough—though she can eat a bunch of foods in one seating. Her body is getting weaker and weaker by every week. She wasn’t sick, not at all. All she has is her emotions. An emotion that keeps on bugging her, an emotion weakens her. Ever since the day Nicole requested things for her, all she thinks about is they—their relationship. To think of it, her resistance is all low now.

Kibum sighed. “My entire fault,” he murmured to himself. “It’s my entire fault!” He prayed really hard that she doesn’t get pneumonia; what happened to them is so mild for her to get that sickness. Though it’s possible, he just prayed really hard.

He waited for ten minutes—ten long minutes for the nurse to come back soon. He looked at his watch and it’s as if time stopped before him. He stomped his food for irritation rose inside him. He looked again at the Emergency Room, when suddenly the nurse appeared in front of him.

He stood up quickly. “Nurse, how’s she?”

The nurse coughed before answering. “Your girlfriend is experiencing over fatigueness—“

Kibum choked, interrupting the nurse. “She’s not my girlfriend.”

“Oh,” she sighed, continuing with, “Whatever’s your relationship to Miss Choi, you should take care of her. She will be admitted here for one day. She’s dehydrated.”

“Dehydrated?!” He shouted at the shocked nurse.

She nodded, vigilantly studying his emotions. “Uh, you see sir; she hasn’t been eating for the past few days. And her emaciated body explains everything.”

Not eating for days, unfeasible, he thought. Then the nurse interrupted his thoughts. “You should go see her in Room 107.” He bowed at the nurse before mildly rushing to the room. “Not your girlfriend,” she chuckled to herself.

He rushed his way to the first floor of the mammoth hospital. When he saw her room, he first breathed in and out before entering. Once he opened the door, he found the tall girl sleeping peacefully on the hospital bed. The light made her face visible; it’s pure pale and weak. He silently closed the door, not wanting to interrupt her rest. The air conditioner’s temperature made Kibum shiver a little. He took the seat beside the hospital bed. It’s only six o’clock in the evening yet it’s already dark outside. He looked at her from head to toe, realizing how much she grew skinnier, even if her body’s hidden by the cloth.

He saw how she had a hard time sacrificing herself for them. He knew (though neither Nicole nor Sooyoung said it to him) that Sooyoung has been helping them all the way. He knew that Nicole requested for Sooyoung’s help.

And he also knew what he’s feeling right now.

“Sooyoung~” He hummed as he traced her fingers using his. Her then-soft hands are now groggy and weak. Her then-brilliant and puffed cheeks fall and seem to be unhappy. Everything about her changes, but when she faces him, it’s as if nothing changed.

He then intertwined his hands to hers. Looking at her deeply, he said, “I love you, Sooyoung-ah. I love you so much.”

“Where am I?” She thought. It’s twelve in the midnight when she woke up. She then felt a hard hand intertwined with hers. She opened her eyes widely when she saw his face. “Kibum…?”

She then tried not to move after seeing him twitching a little. She prayed hard for him not to wake up; well too bad, fate’s not in her hands. He then woke up, scratching his eyes to make his vision clearer. He then saw Sooyoung staring at him with straight face. He then stared back at her for seconds, before smiling at her brightly. “You’re now awake.”

“I…” She was speechless. “W—what am I doing here?”

He chuckled a little for her spacing out. “You’re over fatigue.”

“What?”

“You’re not eating for days now. It’s impossible.” He laughed after that.

Sooyoung rolled her eyes. “If you just want to bully me, you can go out now. I can call Minho oppa.”

“Well,” he said, “Minho visited you hours ago.”

“Really?”

He nodded. “We just don’t want to wake you up. You were sleeping peacefully.”

“Oh,” she sighed in defeat, “you can go home now. I can manage.”

“No.” He shook his head in disagreement. “It’s already midnight. I heard ghosts appear wherever’s possible here in the hospital.”

“I… I don’t care. I hate seeing you than seeing them.”

He was taken aback at her statement. “I…”

“Everything was perfect even before you and Nicole broke up.” Her tears suddenly rolled down her cheeks. “It’s your complete fault! If you didn’t break up with her in the first place, none of this will happen!”

He stared at her; he’s trying to hold back his tears. “Sooyoung, I broke up with her because…”

“Because what?” She chuckled sarcastically. “I’ll not experience this kind of sickness nor fatigue if it wasn’t for your decision!”

He smiled at her, expressing his sincerity. “I’m a bad person, I know. But if you know—“

“I’m glad your realized tha—“

Before she can finish her nagging, she felt his lips—his soft lips—on her lips. She opened her eyes widely in confusion, shock and all of their synonyms. She tried to move to get rid of his lips but he held her wrists so strong that she finally gave up. Returning his soft kiss, she smiled. He felt her smile, sending butterflies in his stomach. It wasn’t his first kiss, but it was his first time to feel that. And so does she.

Breaking the kiss, Kibum gazed at her beautiful eyes. He smiled, she smiled. Everything is fine. After all, they both  felt their love for each other.

“I love you, Sooyoung-ah.”
