I'm Leaving Because I Love You
Unspoken WordsJi Young's POV
“Why isn’t he picking up?” I mumbled to myself as I juggled my phone from one ear to the other.
Seung Hyun had told me we’d go out for lunch together after school but I didn’t find him waiting for me outside class. Calling wasn’t an option; he won’t pick up.
Come to think of it, if I hadn’t initiated for a day out together; he wouldn’t have asked me out either. Things between us were changing, I could feel it. Even that, I am trying my best to ignore all these negative feelings.
I spun the combination to my locker and a note flew out. I shoved my books inside before bending down to pick it up.
But the words which were written on it, sent shivers down my spine.
Tired of living aren’t you? Don’t worry; your time will come soon.
This was the second note I’ve gotten in a week. The first one had said;
Girls like you don’t deserve to live.
I tried to brush it off at first, but this really isn’t a funny prank. If it is really a joke at all.
This was one of the reasons I wanted to meet Seung Hyun badly. I needed someone to confide in, telling me this was all just a bad joke.
Because I was feeling really uneasy about this whole thing and it was like I could feel my moves being watched.
“Ji Young, are you okay?”
I whirled around at Tae Min’s familiar voice.
“Oh Tae Min! Didn’t see you there. I...I was just about to go home. What about you?”
“There’s something wrong isn’t it? Because you would’ve noticed I asked if you were okay, not if you were going home now,” Tae Min studied me carefully.
Should I tell Tae Min about the note? But, he’d probably just tell me to forget about it. And Tae Min was the over protective type. I wouldn’t want him to freak out over this.
“Tae Min? Have you seen Seung Hyun?” I ignored his previous remark.
“Why are you asking me about your boyfriend?” he asked me back and it seems like he had a hard time getting the word ‘boyfriend’ out.
“I was supposed to meet him but he isn’t picking up my calls. I’m worried, if anything has happened to him,” I let out my concern.
“Why should you be worried about him when you’re the one who’s having a problem?” Tae Min raised an eyebrow at me.
“I’m not having any problem!” I said a little bit too sharply. “I’m sorry. I should probably get going now.”
I was about to walk past Tae Min but he managed to grab hold of my hand.
“Ji Young. I’ve known you for 3 years now. You know you can tell me anything,” he said softly.
I shook my head in protest.
“You’re reading too much into it,” I forced a smile. “I’m really okay. I’ll see you tomorrow alright?”
He didn’t answer me but he did let go of my hand.
“Perhaps you’ll find it easier to tell Seung Hyun about your problem. Just don’t keep it to yourself.”
I walked away without saying anything else. But Tae Min’s words kept ringing in my ears.
“What do you mean we can’t go on with this anymore?”
I had finally managed to catch up with Seung Hyun and practically forced him to sit down and have a decent conversation.
But I really didn’t expect him to say,
“We should just stop here Ji Young.”
Everything seemed to be spinning around me; this couldn’t be happening. Two bad things couldn’t be possibly happening in the same day.
“But...but why?”
He still had his back facing to me; like as if looking at me was a sin.
“Does everything need a reason?” he asked simply. “Stop asking questions Ji Young. It’s over,” he said coldly.
Tears were already stinging in my eyes but I refused to let them show. It’s bad enough he’s breaking my heart with his words; I couldn’t let him hurt my pride too.
“This is all happening to suddenly,” I said in a hoarse voice.
“So you’re telling me I should’ve given you a warning before breaking up with you?” he asked snidely.
I glared at him through my glassy eyes. He wasn’t the Seung Hyun I used to know anymore.
“Fine. If that is what you want. Thank you. Thank you for letting me live in a lie all these while.”
And with that, I trudged away from him slowly; unable to control my tears any longer.
The notes.
I thought I could depend on him, seek protection from him. He promised me, he promised he wouldn’t let anything happen to me.
Now what’s left, except for empty broken promises?
I really shouldn’t have believed every single one of his words. Those lies.
Such a fool.
