Chapter 42

What is love?

I know. It's been awhile. It's just been hectic lately.

____

“Bye, dad! I’ll be back soon! Love you!” Tiffany screamed from the doorway and received a small, “Drive safely! Love you too!” Tiffany smiles everytime she hears those words. Her heart still aches whenever she thinks about her mom, but it's been getting better. Writing letters have made a major improvement in her well-being, and time itself has made it bearable. She’s glad Sarah recommended her to write about those negative feelings she once felt. Now she feels better about herself; although she still harbors some negative emotions towards the drunk man that killed her mom, she doesn’t think that hatred will ever go away.

“Ready to get your whooped.” The girl waiting for Tiffany inside her car says as soon as Tiffany sits in the passenger’s seat, making Tiffany snort. “Please, by the time I’m done with you, you’ll be kissing my feet praising me.” The girls laugh as Taeyeon backs out of Tiffany’s driveway and head to the nearest bowling alley.

It was a beautiful Sunday evening, perfect weather for Southern California. The sun setting in the horizon, different hues of warm colors painted the sky, giving an amazing glow. The girls laughed and sang along to the radio as the wind danced through their hair, golden and brunette locks waving freely.

The young man behind the front desk nervously fidgeted as he took the girl’s shoe sizes once the girl’s walked in the building. “You’ll be in lane s-six. Have a nice day!” His voice squealed in such a manner that Taeyeon felt sorry for the dude. She knows that Tiffany’s breathtakingly beautiful, but he doesn’t have to exaggerate it. Tiffany, on the other hand, couldn't help but frown at the guy once she took their shoes from him. She silently handed the other girl’s shoes to her and walked quickly

Taeyeon followed the silent Tiffany and was weirded out by the girl’s sudden attitude. “You okay?” She asked once she sat down next to the girl to put on her bowling shoes.

Noticing that she’s been acting like a jealous girlfriend, Tiffany sighs and put on her best smile. “Yeah, I just… We came here to have a good time. Forget it.” And like that everything was resolved, at least that’s what Tiffany thought as she pushed the starting button on the panel.

Taeyeon watched the girl with careful eyes for a minute before finally slipping on her shoes and standing next to the girl, deciding that Tiffany’s right. They're here to have a good time, and for her to whoop Tiffany’s while she’s at it.

“I’m up first,” Tiffany says as she looks up at the screen and then looks at the balls in one of the feeding machines that brings back the balls from the pin lane. “Lucky Number 9.” Her fingers graze the number as she slips her fingers into the three holes and lifts up the ball. “So, are you too chicken to strike up a bet with the Champ?” She challenges Taeyeon and Taeyeon snorts.

“Woah there princess, don’t let your delusions get too far. As far as I know, you're all talk. Let’s see some action before you go on and call yourself the champ.” Taeyeon teasingly grins as she pokes Tiffany’s side, knowing the girl is ticklish there. Tiffany glares at the shorter girl as she takes two steps back from her. Taeyeon knows Tiffany won’t put up with her teasing any longer as she tries to hide a laugh by clearing . “Alright, how about, loser buys Starbucks till graduation every morning.”

“Grande?”

Taeyeon nods and Tiffany smiles. “Deal.” Tiffany turns toward the cowering pins and smirks devilishly, “Get ready to be schooled.” She slightly her head back and shows her million dollar eye smile before confidently walking down the lane, bowling her first strike.

Taeyeon couldn’t help but check Tiffany out as she bowled her first strike. Toned thighs showing through those short shorts that Tiffany was wearing, she bit her bottom lip as Tiffany leaned down a bit and gave Taeyeon quite a view.

Tiffany smugly grinned as she noticed Taeyeon watching in awe and winked at the girl as she passed by to wait for her turn.

“Oh, it is so on.” The awed girl mutters as she watches the cocky girl sit down like she owns the place.

––––

“No, I don’t care what you say! You cheated!” Taeyeon grumbles as they walk to her car. Tiffany can’t help but laugh at the girl that’s in denial that she lost.

“Nuh uh, I won fair and square.” Tiffany knows Taeyeon would have won by much more than losing by one dumb point if it wasn’t for the fact that Tiffany loudly scoffed, “Miss” just as Taeyeon was about to let go of the ball.

“I don’t know what type of squares you’re talking about because last time I checked squares are not round.” The upset girl unlocks the car and opens the driver's door before slipping in. Tiffany can’t help but find it cute how the other girl is acting. “I’ll gladly give you another spanking if that’s what you’re looking for.” Her voice coming out hoarse and lower than she expected.

Taeyeon can’t help but blush at the sudden images passing through her mind as she awkwardly clears and turns on her car. “Whatever.”

The car is silent and there’s this awkward yet thick tension between the two as Taeyeon drives. Tiffany can’t help but curse herself and her dumb big mouth. Lately, it’s been getting harder and harder for her to see Taeyeon as just a friend. She gets jealous when the boys at her school try to talk to Taeyeon, and with Prom coming up, even she’s been getting contenders.

“I noticed Matt talking to you the other day.” Tiffany tries to make small talk, that and she’s itching to know what Matt really wanted from Taeyeon.

“Hmm?” Taeyeon glanced at Tiffany for second before registering her words, “Oh, yeah. He wanted to know if I had a date for Prom but I told him I’m not going.”

“What do you mean you’re not going?!” The once jealous girl looks at Taeyeon with bulged eyes, “Everyone’s going.”

Taeyeon can’t help but smile at Tiffany’s over exaggerated claim, “Everyone isn’t going, and you know those dances aren’t my type of thing.”

“But it’s Prom and we’re going to be on a ing cruise ship!” The girl argued.

“Nope.” Taeyeon popped her “p”.

“Please, Taeyeon. I’ll go with you.” Tiffany really wants Taeyeon to at least experience the moment. She’s had the honor of going to the previous Prom because of her ex was a senior at the time before they broke up when he left to New York.

Taeyeon’s gaze on the road hardens as the words leave Tiffany’s mouth, “No, I’m not going to be a third wheel Tiff.”

“Who said anything about you being the third wheel? I don’t have a date to the dance, Tae.”

Taeyeon can’t help but sigh at Tiffany’s persistence. She knows the latter will keep bugging her about it if she doesn’t agree, but she really doesn’t want to go and deal with a bunch of guys trying to hit on Tiffany, as if school wasn't torturing enough, and with Summer right around the corner, Tiffany’s been wearing shorts more often than not, and guys have been checking her out to Taeyeon’s annoyance, even if she knows that Tiffany looks mouth dropping in them. Her eyes slowly travel to Tiffany’s as she comes to a stop at a red light and she’s met with two big pleading eyes. From that moment on, Taeyeon knows she can’t say no. “I’ll think about it.” She grumbles and receives an excited squeal that makes her wince.

“We are so going dress shopping!” The excited girl hollers and Taeyeon can’t help but let her forehead hit the steering wheel. After the last time she went shopping with Tiffany, she promised herself that she would never again go shopping with that shopaholic ever again. What has she gotten herself into?
