Breaking the Bad News
Capturing His HeartAs I ran down the stairs to meet Taecyeon in the lobby, I bumped into Nicole and Jay who were about to go to her room to hang out. Oh dear, I hope Junsu doesn't know about this. When I waved hi to them I suddenly remembered that I left my phone in my room. I turned around and ran back to get it.
"Taec's waiting for his princess; don't keep him waiting!" Jay laughed as he yelled at me from the stairwell.
I turned around and stuck my tongue out at him, and as I wasn't looking where I was going, I ran into Khun, who was hanging out with Victoria, and fell on my . What is this, couple's night?
He helped me up. "Tiff, we need to talk."
"Hmm? About what?"
Victoria's eyes grew wider as she grabbed Khun's hands to lead him away from me so that he couldn't say anything. "I'll text you later!!"
Wait a sec.... she didn't... tell him... did she?
I shrugged it off and didn't think much of it and continued to my room. After shoving my phone in my purse, I sprinted to the lobby.
"There you are," Taecyeon smiled at me, extending a hand to take mine. "I'm glad you're finally back, this weekend was actually torturous." He chuckled, "Especially when you were so far away with Dongwoon and not me."
I laughed-- almost a little too nervously, "So where are we going?"
"That little restaurant downtown; we're walking-- I hope you don't mind," he smiled as he opened the front door.
The smells of the autumn breeze filled the lobby as I took in a deep breath.
On the way over to the restaurant, we walked with our hands in his pocket. It wasn't even that cold, but it felt reassuring anyways. We didn't really talk, because neither of us felt the need to. It was times like these when I felt like Taecyeon and I really were great together. It's like we understood each other without speaking. He'd occasionally glance over at me just as I'd glance over at him.
When we got to the restaurant, the waiter sat us down at a little booth next to a window. He knew that I loved window seats, so he asked for that one in particular.
I scanned the restaurant for people that we would possibly know, just as I always do whenever we went to public places. And that was when I saw my worst nightmare.
Dongwoon was sitting with Ji-Eun at a table in the middle of the restaurant.
What??
I reached across the table to grab Taecyeon's hand to get his attention. When he looked at me I nodded towards Dongwoon and Ji-Eun. He chuckled.
"So he's into those kinds of girls..." Taecyeon said.
"What does that mean?"
"Well you know what kind of a girl Ji-Eun is..."
"Yeah..."
"I guess he's into that sort of thing if he's out on a date with her."
I guess Taecyeon was right... I mean, just the other day he saw how big of a monster Ji-Eun was, and to me especially.
" I know he's your friend and it's weird to see someone you really don't like be with a close friend, and trust me, I wouldn't care about that if I didn't care about you so much since they're both people I don't like... but because he's your friend we'll sort that out together, okay?"
I nodded. I was always happy whenever Taecyeon offered to help with my problems.
We ordered our food and when dinner arrived, everything went smoothly; I was able to talk about things and forget about what had happened only two days ago, but whenever I'd hear Ji-Eun laugh from across the restaurant, I'd cringe slightly and wonder what exactly they could be talking about that was so funny or amusing. More importantly, why was Dongwoon doing this?
Afterwards, Taecyeon took me out for ice cream. We left the restaurant before Dongwoon and Ji-Eun, which made me wonder: did he even know that we were there? I'm sure he did...
There was a newly opened store in town that made their own ice cream from scratch-- I forgot to mention they made my favorite flavor of all time: green tea. He bought the biggest size they had and we shared it outside on the park bench that we alway sat at. He fed me scoops of ice cream, making sure that I was satisfied before he at it himself. I loved it when he fed me... I know that sounds weird, but it's always nice being taken care of by him in particular.
Then suddenly, my phone buzzed in the middle of our ice-cream fest.
"Hey, can we talk?" Dongwoon texted me.
Why was he texting me now? I thought he and Ji-Eun were on a date.... but just as I was about to put my phone away to pretend as if I hadn't read the text, I received another one. This time from Khun: "Tiffany, make sure you don't tell Taecyeon what happened until we prep him for it." Dammit, Vic. You told him??
I grumbled as I texted Khun back, "First off... You know?? Second, yeah, I got it."
When we dug to the bottom of the cup of ice cream, Taecyeon got up and threw it away in the trash. He came back and plopped himself back down on the park bench.
My phone buzzed again, "Yeah... we all know...."
"We?? Who's 'we'?"
"Nicole, Bekah, Nana, Jay, Chansung, Wooyoung, Junho and I..... :)"
"Don't you smiley face me. How???"
"Don't worry; we're going to tell him together, and make it as un-painful for you as possible. Plus it's not like you're the one that kissed him. He kissed you. You're at less of a fault that him."
"KHUN."
"Just calm down. We have this covered."
"What are you texting so viciously about?" Taecyeon suddenly asked.
"Mmm?" I looked up.
"You're like bashing your keyboard super viciously," he laughed.
"Oh... Vic promised she'd watch a movie with me, but she did it with Khun instead."
"We can watch it together," he smiled as he put an arm around me.
I leaned towards him snuggling into his chest, nodding.
"What movie?"
God, now I have to lie more to him... "Um... The notebook."
"Ugh; sappy romance.... I don't know..."
"That's why I wanted to watch it with Vic..."
"What about a scary movie?"
"Why? Do you want me to curl up in fear while you courageously hold onto me like a manly boyfriend?"
He nodded.
"Sorry, scary movies don't phase me."
"You're kidding...."
I shook my head, "As a matter of fact, you'll probably be the one holding onto me in fear."
"Was that a challenge?"
"Well that depends; do you think you can beat me?"
"Oh it's on. But, meanwhile... I know what I can beat you at..."
"What?"
Without another word he began to tickle me; I giggled, squirmed and flailed.
"Ya! Taec!! Stop!" I could barely concoct sentences as I was laughing so hard. That was my one big weakness... I was extremely ticklish.
Just then I grabbed his wrists so that he would stop tickling me as he smiled cheesily at me. My legs were now laid across his lap because I was flailing so much.
"Tiffany?"
I looked up to see Dongwoon standing on the pavement looking at us.
"Did you get my text?"
Errmmm........ "No? Why?" My heart was racing. Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God.
"Oh... um... Can I talk to you later?"
Dammit. There is no way I could say no. "Um... when? We're having a movie marathon later..."
"Yo, Dongwoon, aren't you on a date with Ji-Eun? Where is she?" Taecyeon stepped in.
"She's--"
"Dongwoon-ah~!" Ji-Eun called for him.
"Yeah, I'll be there in a sec, Ji-Eun," Dongwoon yelled back to her.
"Do you like her?" I couldn't help but to ask.
"How do you want me to answer that?"
"What?"
"If you have any free time from him, I'll tell you," he looked a little bit annoyed, "but since you're so busy with Taecyeon now, I'll tell you later."
"Dongw--"
"Catch ya later," he walked away from me. He... just walked away from me...
I mean... I don't blame him. I have been sort of... evasive lately, but still... I don't think I've ever gotten the cold shoulder from him before.
Dumbfounded, I sat there collecting what had just happened.
"You alright?" Taecyeon nudged me.
"Yeah, I'm fine... He's just never done that before."
"Sorry; it's probably my fault."
"Don't say that, Taec. You mean a lot to me; even if it was your fault, I wouldn't care. Having you is enough for me."
He smiled at me and put his hand on the back of my head, my hair.
I watched as Ji-Eun hook her arm with Dongwoon's as she leaned in closer to him. Before they walked away, she turned around and smiled at me mockingly.
When I asked for Dongwoon to get over me, I meant with a decent girl, not that sad excuse for a human being.
I glared back at her as she giggled and walked off with him. He didn't look to amused, but it was probably because of me. I probably ruined his night.
Back on campus, Taec and I decided to hang out with all our friends. Basically, everyone that we were with knew what I had done... except Taecyeon himself.
The guilt pounded down on me.
Then I realized that Nicole and Jay were cuddling in a corner of the room. I looked over to Junsu to see that him sitting with Wooyoung; he didn't look to happy either.
I got up and walked to the couch that Junsu was sitting on to comfort him.
"Hey, you okay?"
He sighed, "Yeah, I'm okay. Figures she would like him and not me."
"You still have the rest of the year, you do know that right?"
"Yeah, but if she's happy, then what the hell."
"Don't deny yourself before you've given it your best shot. That's what my mom tells me all the time."
He smiled, "Makes sense... but for now, I think I'm just going to take a step back and take a rain check."
"Alright, suit yourself."
"So what are we going to do about you?"
"Um.... That's a very very good question." I shook my head, "I really don't know."
"Khun wants to be there when you tell him. His plan was something about us all being in the room so that we could control any freak out, but I think we should give you guys privacy, and then if he freaks out we can stop him from leaving."
"Your plan sounds better, but I just don't know how I'm going to tell him."
"Just slowly introduce the topic and ask him to hear you out no matter how mad it's going to make him."
I sighed, "hmm. I guess.."
"And we should probably do this tonight."
Just then Taecyeon got up and left the room, "I'll be right back, guys."
"Where are you going?" I yelled after him.
He didn't reply. I guess he didn't hear me.
While he was gone, we took the moment to plan out how I would tell him, making the plan clear to everyone.
He was gone for a while. I looked at the clock; he had been gone for 15 minutes now.
I called him, but he didn't pick up.
5 minutes later he came back.
"Tiffany, we need to talk."
My heart sank. He grabbed my hand and led me to the empty room next door.
"Ji-Eun just told me what happened."
"Over the weekend?"
"About you and Dongwoon, yes."
Oh God, Oh God, Oh God. I sat silently.
