Day 7
Getting to Know YouIt was quiet at night and the only sound in the room, their breathing and the occasional rustle of the sheets. Roffy snuggled deeper into her pillow and that was when Yongguk spoke.
“In less than seven hours, we’ll be going back to our new home,” he said.
There was a twinge of excitement as she thought about what he said. They would be moving back, the honeymoon would be over, but they would be finally living together. It wouldn’t be veiled under the sweetness of a honeymoon. It would be real marriage, real life, every day starting from now. There would be moments, she knew, where things wouldn’t go right, but her mother always told her if she toughed it out, then she would see that at the end of the day, the man she married will always make her smile.
Roffy turned around to stare at him. “Are you ready?”
He knew what she was asking and Yongguk smiled. “Honestly, not really.”
She slugged him on the chest. “Thanks for the vote of confidence, sir. If you’re not ready, how am I supposed to be?”
He snuck an arm around her waist and tugged her closer so that they were almost touching. She tried not to breathe too hard and found herself looking way too often at his lips. Roffy let out a gulp and tried to keep her heart rate down.
“I mean, we can both be not ready together and fumble along and make mistakes together. Just promise me, you won’t get angry with me.”
She tried to crane her head away so she wasn’t blowing her breath into his face. He was fine; he was a singer and had great air control but she didn’t want to huff. It wasn’t very romantic. “I won’t. I’ll probably get frustrated and get silent but I’ll forget it at the end.”
Yongguk grinned. “You know, you can breathe a little. It’s human to need oxygen. I won’t think I’m stuck in a dragon cave or anything.”
Roffy snapped back, “I was being considerate. But if you insist,” she let out an extra loud heave just to annoy him.
He laughed and held her closer still. “You’re so silly. And so cute. I think that’s why I look forward to making this work.” She was quiet and then he continued. “This is so strange. Normally people go into a marriage, sort of knowing what they’re getting into and definitely knowing the other partner well, or at least I hope so. I feel like both of us are doing this blind.”
She placed her head on his chest, listening for his heart. It was beating at a constant rate, and that made her smile. She didn’t need him to get nervous around her or to get clammy. She just wanted his steady presence. “Is that a good or a bad thing?”
He smiled down at her. “I think with you, it’s definitely something that wouldn’t affect us anyway. I think I can really learn to love you.”
Roffy let out a tiny squeal and covered her face with her hands two seconds after, embarrassed that she had showed so much emotion. He laughed with her and she shook in his arms. “That was cute. I like that. I like making you feel shy, and then see a cute reaction. I think I’ll make it my marriage mission to make you do it often.”
He tangled their legs together and she felt comfortable in his presence. “I don’t like making big promises, though. I feel like a lot of marriages fall apart because the big dreams that people have for themselves never come true.” She said it sadly.
Yongguk kissed her on the forehead. “I know, which is why I said often and not every day. I know that we’re going to fight once in a while, that we’re both going to get annoyed, but in the end, we’re still in this together. For a really, really, long time. Go to sleep, sweetheart. There’s a long ride back.”
She clenched his shirt in her fists and breathed in his now familiar scent and fell asleep, absolutely happy
