That Night
Monochrome[flashback]
“Omma? Yoboseo?”
“Soo-ya…are you asleep?”
“Not yet. I just read story with Hoya hyung.”
“Right. Myungsoo really like reading.”
“Omma, where are you?”
“Myungsoo-ya, omma have to go.”
“Where?”
“Far. Very far place.”
“How will you go to that far place?”
“Omma will fly. You remember right? The super power. That ability to fly.”
“Umm…I remember. But, you will comeback right? Omma will fly back to me, right?”
“Goodbye, Soo-ya…”
“Omma? Yoboseyo? Omma!”
[end of flashback]
Myungsoo wake up and breathing heavily. This is the nightmare that he hates the most. He’s panting while gripping into his chest. His room is quiet, it seems almost dark outside.
“Hey, are you okay? Myungsoo?” Myungsoo looks into the source of the voice and find Bora looks at him with a worry face. He doesn’t answer; just keep trying to breathe properly. Bora took a glass of water and bring it to him.
“Here. Drink. It will make you feel better.” She said. Myungsoo has no choice but to take the glass and drink the water slowly. She’s right, he feels better after he drink it. Bora places the empty glass on the table beside the bed.
“You feel better?” She asked. Giving him a warm smile. But somehow Myungsoo feels annoyed instead.
“Why are you here?”
“Hoya has something to do in the office. That’s why I’m here to look after you.” Bora said while keep give him smile. Myungsoo just turns his back facing her.
“You don’t need to do that. Just go.”
“Why are you like this?”
“Leave.”
“Why do you always push people away?” Myungsoo hear the question. Who knows? I don’t know why I did these things.I just don't want to see you, or Hoya or anybody else. I just wanna sleep.
“None of your business.” He answered.
“Isn’t it easier to let them help you and stand by you? Isn’t it easier than just keep pushing them away?” She's talking in a low voice.
Is it? Myungsoo ignores her as his eyes watching the white curtain waving from the wind that creeping through the slightly opened window in his room. There's is no way it's gonna be easier. His life is always like that.
“He refuses to eat. That’s why he’s not getting better. Sure, we put nutrition through the drip, but if he doesn’t eat the proper meal it still hard for him to back healthy.” The doctor explained Myungsoo condition. Hoya just sighs. He don't know what to do. His eyes now looking at the window. He saw Myungsoo lying there with puffy eyes and pale face. It’s been almost a week he stays at the hospital and Myungsoo still refuses to eat. He’s getting weaker, and Hoya is so worry about that.
Hoya enters the room with a bowl of soup, Myungsoo looks at him a while before turn around and back facing the older.
“Soo, let’s eat…it’s chicken soup. You always like chicken soup right?” Hoya smiles.
“I’m not hungry.” The younger answered him coldly.
“Come on, just a bite.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Soo, just a little…you need nutrition.”
“I said, I don’t want to!” Myungsoo shoved the bowl in Hoya’s hand. It’s clattered around the floor. Hoya just sighs. Some nurses come to help Hoya clean the foods. Myungsoo doesn’t bothered, just keep staring at the window blankly.
Hoya finally leaves the room and sit in the bench of hospital corridor. He rubbed his face with his own hands, feeling clueless and frustrated. It's hard, even for the invincible Hoya. Suddenly, the phone in his pocket buzzes.
“Oh? Omma?”
“Yeah, Myungsoo is still in the hospital. I know. It’s worrisome. But he will get better soon.” Hoya tries to reassure the voice on the phone.
“Don’t worry, omma. You don’t need to come over. I’ll take care of him. I promise.”
“Me? Ah…of course I’m fine.” He lied. How can he be fine at the times like this?
“Oh, arasso…bye omma.” Hoya puts the phone back to his pocket.
That was his mom checking up on him and Myungsoo. Yeah, Myungsoo maybe just a cousin of him. But legally he’s Hoya’s younger brother. Hoya’s family took Myungsoo as their adopted son after his mom died, since he has no relatives around. Hoya remembers that night. The night when Myungsoo was yelled angry to police officer who said that his mom is dead. Myungsoo was just 9 years old, and he was yelled like crazy.
“My mom is not died! Ahjussi, how can you say that she’s dead?”
“Myungsoo, let’s go inside sweety…” Hoya’s mom tries to drag Myungsoo away from the police officer. “Hoya, bring Myungsoo inside…” Hoya who’s staring at the scene got surprised, but then nodded and grab Myungsoo’s shoulder to bring him inside the house.
“Soo, let’s go inside…”
“Andwae…”
“Soo, can’t you hear what they said?” Hoya asked frustratingly. Kim Yewon-ssi is jumping from the rooftop building. That’s the words from the police officer that Hoya heard a moment ago.
“She can fly, Hyung! Mom can fly! She said to me that she can fly. She’s flying from there and she will fly back to me again. How could they say that she’s died?”
Hoya remembers that night clearly. The night when Myungsoo lost his mom. Hoya remembers the night after that when Myungsoo insisted that his mom will come back. Every night he’s keep waiting. Hoya remembers the look in the younger boy eyes. Myungsoo always has beautiful eyes. It's bright, deep and black. But those eyes were not as bright as before.
One day Myungsoo finally realized that she’s not coming back. She’s gone for forever. Leaving him.
And that was not the only time Myungsoo lost precious thing in his life…
