Chapter 60

Forever

Author’s POV:

Jessica’s Pregnancy Calendar – Week 18

In the midst of wondering if she should actually start eating, Jessica stared at the items in the fridge. Recalling that baby blip’s health is at risk, Jessica forced herself to prepare a meal, even if she didn’t have the appetite. After setting everything on the stove, Jessica only patiently waited until it came to a boil. She took a seat on a stool and sighed. The pregnant woman was physically and emotionally tired for the whole day, from the doctor’s appointment to Tiffany’s wedding preparations. All she wanted at this point was to just go to bed.

Seeing that the water was boiling, Jessica got up and started to make her late dinner. In the progress of doing so, she heard a dull bang sound out somewhere in the house. She instantly held her head up in alert. Jessica stayed silent for a second before reverting back to what she was doing. The sound occurred again and Jessica stilled. She became slightly scared, being the only one home. It was times like this that Jessica wished that she and Kris had bought a smaller home.

The sound kept repeating and Jessica decided to turn off the stove. She stood there listening and started to creep her way towards the direction of the sound. Jessica just hoped no one was trying to break into the house. Peeking out of the kitchen, Jessica peered down the hallway that led to the front door. It was scary being home alone.

Jessica’s eyes widened when she saw the front door handle being rattled forcefully. Oh my god, someone is trying to break into the house. She started to freak out. Biting down on her lower lip, she watched in shock as she heard the stranger outside press on their keypad to try to get into her house. There was no way they’d get in…the password was difficult. Jessica tried to reassure herself, seeing that the person outside was getting the code wrong over and over again. She could hear the person outside muffle a curse and try to ram at the door.

Her hands balled up as she hoped that the person would just go away. She should’ve left the light in the living room on, so it would’ve let people think there was someone home. She was in no condition to fight or even protect herself. Jessica only wished Kris was home right now.

Suddenly, the keypad of the door beeped, signaling the correct code. Jessica gasped in horror and retracted fully behind the wall, flipping the light switch off to the kitchen. She held her breath, eyes wide in fright as she listened in on the intruder while hiding.

The door slammed shut as footsteps entered. A low, incoherent grumble came from the stranger. Jessica listened to what sounded like a thump against the front door. What’s this person doing? Why are they just standing there? Jessica couldn’t hear much movement.

“I’m…” Jessica heard the person mutter out. “Home…”

Jessica’s reaction to the voice was to look up. The voice was familiar, something she could never forget ever. It was the most recognizable voice to her. She peeked out down the hall again in disbelief. It couldn’t be…

Bravely stepping out, Jessica eyed the person carefully. She really couldn’t make out the face, since they were slumped against the door with their head down in the dark. Once she was close enough to the light switch, Jessica slowly reached to turn on the light. As soon as the light lit up, she revealed the soft golden hair and the ever-so recognizable handsome figure.

Jessica just remained staring at him for a silent minute. “…Kris?” her voice was airy and soft.

Kris only stirred and dazedly looked up in a slow manner. He only stared at Jessica with narrowed eyebrows, as if concentrating really hard. The man blinked a few times and as if he finally realized something, he pulled himself off the door and smiled.

“Jess…” He grinned, stumbling towards her. Jessica only flinched and was surprised by the sudden hug. “I missed you…” he mumbled into her ear.

Jessica’s heart started to race at his words. She missed this. She missed Kris. She missed all his hugs and his voice. Everything just seemed better in his arms. Her hands gripped onto his dress shirt, as she rested her head onto his shoulder. She didn’t say anything while she stayed quiet in his embrace.

Kris suddenly broke the hug to look her in the eyes. He stared at her seriously. “I love you…” he broke out in a cheesy grin, his eye smile appeared.

Jessica only stared at him distantly, tears pricking her eyes, as she let go of him. “…You’re drunk.” Her nose picked up the alcohol the second he said those three important words.

“I love you.” Kris repeated himself, this time he cupped her face and proceeded to kiss her on the lips forcefully.

Jessica pushed him off of her. “Stop.” She didn’t like the fact that he was only saying and doing affectionate things to her when he was not even in the right mind. “You’re drunk. You don’t mean it.” She swiped away the unexpected tear that rolled down her cheek.

Kris only scrunched his lips at her. “Kris Wu never gets drunk…” he chuckled, obviously intoxicated.

Jessica only ignored his comment. “Why’d you come home drunk?” she asked him seriously, trying to blink away the enraged tears. “Why’d you get drunk?” she started to get mad, wanting to know why he was like this. “Is this the only way you could face me? When you’re drunk?” she spoke with a hurt voice.

Kris was too drunk to even understand her. “Why are you so cute?” he caressed her face again.

The wife took his hands away from her tear-stained face. “Stop.” She demanded. “How come you drank so much? I’ve never seen you intoxicated before. Who got you to drink this much? Park Hana?” she had to push him back to prevent him from hugging her again. “Tell me.” She commanded in an upset voice.

“Don’t be mad at me.” Kris started to frown cutely. “I love you~” he gave her a charming look, entwining their hands together. “You’re too pretty to be mad…” he placed a kiss on her cheek and took this chance to wrap his arms around her waist.

Jessica shut her eyes, already understanding that it was honestly impossible to converse with a drunken Kris. Deciding to get over it for the time being, Jessica figured she could at least be thankful that Kris came home. She couldn’t help but feel much more comforted and at ease with just his presence. Jessica decided to just ask him about everything tomorrow.

“Why do you smell so good?” Kris started to nuzzle into her neck, making Jessica feel warm and loved.

The two remained like that for a while, until Jessica suddenly remembered the real situation. “Come on, let’s go to bed.” She grabbed his arm and led him up the stairs after her.

Kris staggered behind her, looking as if he couldn’t even walk properly. Jessica saw how he couldn’t walk by himself. She didn’t know what to do, knowing that she couldn’t assist him much. Jessica grabbed his arm, trying to help him up the stairs. Kris’s inability to even control his body caused him to stumble onto Jessica. She squealed when her back came in contact with her back, her hands held out in front of her reaction to protect her tummy from being hurt.

Kris’s chest ended up pressing against her hands and his arms planted on the wall next to Jessica’s head. Jessica’s closed eyes fluttered open as she felt a distance between them, saving their baby from harm. Looking up at him, Jessica only watched as a smirk slid onto Kris’s lips.

“Hi there, beautiful.” Kris’s words somehow made Jessica look away timidly. He leaned in closer, closing the space between their faces. “Why do you have to be so attractive?” he whispered, gliding his lips against her jaw line.

Jessica cleared before she took the initiative to help him up the rest of the stairs. “Let’s just get you to bed.” She tried to distract herself from feeling her heart fluttering yet breaking at the same time.

It’s been too long without Kris’s affection. Jessica without a doubt missed him and his littlest ways to make her feel so loved, but his loving actions only made Jessica’s heart break even more. He was drunk. He doesn’t even know what he’s saying or doing. It only made Jessica feel conflicted. She didn’t know whether or not to feel loved or feel upset.

Lost in her thoughts, Jessica was a few steps ahead of Kris and was almost dragging him along. She only snapped back into reality when she felt Kris’s hands somewhere they shouldn’t be.

“Stop.” Jessica turned around to pull Kris’s arm away from her bottom. With all their fights and problems unsolved, Jessica didn’t feel like it was right for him to keep touching her so affectionately, even if he was under the influence. It just didn’t feel right.

“You’re being a tease~” Kris wrapped his arms around her waist. “You’re not wearing pants.” He looked up at her with a pout.

Jessica knew she had to be patient with him, especially since he was intoxicated. “I am, I’m wearing shorts. It’s just that the shirt is too big.” She’s always worn his shirts to sleep, even Kris knows it himself. “Come on, let’s go.”

“…Baby.” Kris suddenly spoke up, making Jessica still. “Our baby blip.” He snuggled his face closely on her belly.

Jessica became surprised by his actions. “Y-Yeah…” was the only thing she managed to sputter out. She didn’t think he’d even remember that she was pregnant since he was so drunk.

“I hope you’re okay blip…” Kris expressed his worries all of the sudden. “Your dad is sorry he can’t be better…”

At his comment, Jessica couldn’t help but feel touched. She just hoped that he really meant it. There was always a saying that when you’re drunk, you tend to speak what’s on your mind. Jessica hoped that this was the case.

She ran her fingers through his soft hair and smiled. “You’re going to be the best dad, Kris…” she whispered to herself. “You just have to try.” She wanted him to be more committed than he is now. “Try for us.”

“I’ll try to be better…” Kris mumbled, even when Jessica was sure he didn’t hear what she had said before.

Jessica appreciated his words and only hoped that he will put real meaning behind those words in the future. She hoped Kris was really speaking his mind. She had faith in him. How could Kris just get her to warm up, even when he was drunk? He just has such a huge affect on her.

Seeing that Kris was starting to tip to the side, Jessica hurriedly grabbed onto his arm and ushered him up the rest of the stairs. “You make me concerned when you’re in this state.” Jessica mumbled her true feelings when she tried her best to guide a stumbling Kris towards their bedroom.

Kris only chuckled to himself and had a wide grin plastered on his lips. Jessica basically had to lug his disoriented body into the bedroom, seeing that Kris was so much more interested in trying to touch her instead. Reaching the bed, Jessica was more than glad to let Kris fall onto the mattress. The pregnant woman only sat down on the edge of the bed to take in a well-needed breather.

Jessica glanced over at a still grinning Kris, this time with his eyes closed. “Smells like peaches…” he snuggled into her pillow more than happily. “Jess smells like peaches too…I like it.”

The wife only smiled at his comment. It wasn’t long until she looked down at his clothing and frowned again. “You’re still wearing the same thing from two days ago.” Jessica only started to wonder what he’s been doing and where he’s been living for the past few days. “Must’ve be hard for you…” she worried about him and at the same time felt relieved that he was home now.

Jessica finally got up and went up to Kris, standing bedside. She reached over to try and roll Kris onto his back. Once she did that, Kris grasped onto her hands. Jessica only watched as he opened his eyes and stared at her with warm eyes. Kris tried to pull her down into his embrace, but Jessica resisted.

Kris only gave her a saddened look. “Why?” he frowned.

“I can’t.” Jessica just didn’t feel right having him give her such loving affection because they haven’t solved anything yet, but she couldn’t bear seeing his heartbroken expression. “The baby…” she was also worried about the baby’s safety, since she couldn’t just move as freely as she could before.

Why did Jessica feel so conflicted and hesitant about touching Kris?

Kris blinked at her uncomprehendingly before he started to giggle by himself. “Baby…” his gummy smile showed. “Always the baby…” he chuckled rather hopelessly.

Jessica didn’t understand what he meant and only furrowed her eyebrows. She caught a glimpse of his somber expression before Kris let go of her hands and rolled over onto his side again. Clearing at the sudden awkwardness, she started to reach for Kris again. The least she should do for him is get him changed and into his pajamas. With Kris in this state, it only reminded her of when she was drunk. Yet at that time, Kris really took care of her and even helped her shower and safely tucked her in bed. Jessica could only do so much with her fragile body.

Kris was unwilling to flip onto his back as Jessica tried endless times to get to do so. He was being stubborn and it forced Jessica to get onto the bed. In the end, Jessica resulted in straddling him, as she sat atop of him. Jessica felt awkward in this position, with Kris gazing at her, but when she reminded herself that he was intoxicated, she felt more at ease. With awkward hands, she reached to take off his blazer. Next came his dress shirt and while Jessica was ing his shirt, she was surprised that Kris hasn’t moved or resisted the slightest bit. The man only laid there with the most unreadable face she’s seen.

As soon Jessica got to the last button, she flared out the shirt to reveal his bare torso. Jessica resisted the urge to bury her face into his chest and to hold him. Instead, she tried to slip the shirt off his shoulders, causing her to lean closer towards him.

Suddenly, Kris leaned forward and attached their lips together. Jessica only froze in place, feeling as if the defensive barriers around her heart were being destroyed. Kris’s lips only moved over hers with grace and love. His arms wrapped around her waist before he flipped them over until Jessica’s back landed on the bed. Their lips never detached and Kris ended up hovering over half of her body.

As Kris kept urging her to respond back to her with his lips, Jessica’s eyes started to slowly flutter shut and her lips started to move against his. She started to give in and didn’t feel like fighting against him anymore. Jessica missed him so badly. His touch and his kisses seemed too undeniable and fulfilling to her. She just needed him with her. It just made it seem like everything was all right and fixed when he was here.

For the moment, everything just seemed fine.

Squirming awake, Kris opened his eyes to be extremely confused. His eyes darted around the room before he started to move. He stilled when he realized that he was home…with Jessica in his arms. He settled back into bed, careful not to wake the sleeping Jessica that was hugging onto him.

He only marveled at his wife, not finding it real that she was right in his arms. Kris only reached out to her face gently. It was so surreal to find himself where he least expected. Especially with his wife safely tucked right next to him. He blinked at her before moving a stray hair from her face.

Kris noticed how Jessica looked so tired despite sleeping at the moment. Her face seemed deteriorated. Kris also couldn’t forget the fact that Jessica hasn’t been eating lately. Why haven’t you been eating? Kris wondered as he traced the delicate features on her face. Jessica only stirred in her sleep, but only snuggled closer towards him before dozing off again.

Kris placed a soft kiss on the crown of her head and slowly slipped out of her hold. He watched Jessica continue to sleep as he sat up on the bed. Kris recoiled in pain and held his head. He pulled himself up from the bed and groaned. His head was pulsing with a sharp pain.

Making his way into the bathroom, Kris stared at himself in the mirror with a questioning expression. The last thing he remembered was drinking with Yixing. Kris shut his eyes, trying hard to remember anything after that. In a haze, Kris managed to remember kissing Jessica. Rubbing his eyes, Kris grunted, regretting the fact that he allowed himself to actually get drunk. Now he has a hangover.

Questions started to swarm in his head. How’d I end up home? Why am I home? Why did I wake up in Jessica’s arms? Did we make up? What happened when I got home? Why don’t I have shirt on? How much did I drink last night? What happened to Yixing?

Kris groaned, as he realized how much he really needed a shower. Dropping all his inquiries, he hopped into the shower to wash up. Once he finished cleaning up his hygiene, he passed by the bed where Jessica was still sleeping, with only a towel around his waist and into the closet. He quickly got dressed and headed downstairs with a groggy look.

Searching the cupboards with ease, Kris made himself a cup of hot lemon tea, courtesy of Jessica’s tea stash. He sighed out in comfort. It was then that he noticed that there were unprepared food around the kitchen and stove. His eyes scanned the entire kitchen and realized that it was barely even touched ever since he left. The plates that Jessica had broken the day he left was still left shattered on the floor.

Kris was surprised, but it only fit in with the story he was told by Donghae. Jessica really hasn’t been eating. The kitchen has barely been touched at all. He glanced over at the leftover food on the counter. It looked as if Jessica was in the midst of preparing food until she suddenly stopped. He sighed before surveying the area. Kris bit his lower lip before he pulled out his phone, looking for someone.

Jessica awakened when she heard a loud noise sound out through the house. Her hands patted in front of her when she realized that Kris was out of bed. He wouldn’t have left, would he? She sat up on the bed, knowing that today was going to be different than last night. Things weren’t going to be pushed aside, subjects and fights couldn’t be avoided.

Another bang sounded out. Jessica looked up and wondered what Kris was doing downstairs. She dragged herself out of bed. Carefully walking down the stairs and closer to the kitchen, Jessica could hear a bit more bangs and even a few curses from Kris. Peeking into the kitchen, Jessica only stood there by the kitchen entrance, holding onto the wall.

She watched as Kris was looking lost in front of the stove. “Why doesn’t it go all the way?” Kris spoke to himself before he started to poke at the little pot on the stove. “Ah~” he recoiled as he held his finger in seething pain.

Jessica couldn’t help but smile at his little mistake of touching a burning hot pot. “…What are you doing?” she finally spoke up with a disarming look.

Kris looked up at her in surprise, still holding his burning finger. He could only just blink at her. Things were a little awkward between them.

Jessica only walked towards him and took his reddened finger and led him towards the sink. “You should run burns under cold water for a minute. It helps.” She placed his hand under the running water, occasionally rubbing his hurt index finger.

Kris smiled. “Thanks.” He ended up gazing at her when Jessica placed a small kiss on his finger after it was done being washed.

“No problem.” Jessica grinned before heading towards the stove. “What were you doing?”

“Wait.” Kris held her back, preventing her from peeking at the pot. “Just sit down.” He gestured to the counter chairs.

Jessica only gave him a questioning look. “Why?”

“Just do it.” Kris gave her a reassuring smile.

Jessica followed his orders and sat down on one of the high chairs. She was a little concerned, considering that Kris never messes around in her kitchen. Jessica only sat there awkwardly, watching him go back towards the stove.

“Now how did this work again?” Kris scratched the back of his head before trying to turn on the knob for the stove.

“Turn clockwise to have the fire higher. Counterclockwise to have it lower or to turn it off.” Jessica guided him.

Kris nodded in recognition and successfully turned off the stove. “Oh, there we go.” He smiled.

He then started to run around the kitchen, grabbing things here and there. Jessica only watched with no clue as to what he was doing. Her hand balled up, her thumb unknowingly playing with her wedding ring. She bit down on her lower lip, trying to figure out what Kris was doing. She had already noticed the mess he created in the sink and on the counters.

After a few long minutes, Jessica was surprised when Kris placed a bowl of steaming noodle soup in front of her. “…Is this for me?” She only blinked up at Kris with an impressed look.

Kris only stood on the other side of the counter and nodded his head. He gazed straight at her, taking in every expression and reaction that he could get from her. It was cute to see Jessica flustered and in wonderment.

“How did you…” Jessica looked at him with widened eyes, knowing that he can’t cook.

“I called my mom for help.” Kris answered, already knowing that she was going to ask. “I knew you haven’t been eating, so…” he rubbed the back of his neck.

Jessica’s pink lips curled up in a grateful smile. “Thanks.” She was about to lean over to kiss him, but remembered their stance on their fight and cleared .

Kris sensed the atmosphere, as he noticed the way Jessica leaned toward him a bit before recoiling back. “Try it.” He directed her attention towards the food, even though he felt a bit upset that he didn’t receive that kiss.

Jessica picked up the utensils before her and started to happily take a bite. Her face turned into a cute expression with her bright eyes and cheeks puffed out due to having full. She hummed a little tune while she chewed, glancing at Kris with a content expression.

“How is it?” Kris smiled at her, as an overwhelming surge of happiness overcame him by just seeing Jessica so overjoyed.

Once Jessica swallowed, she grinned with her thumbs up. “It’s good. Although, you could’ve cooked the noodles a little longer.” She gave a little critique at the end.

Kris snickered at the little comment and nodded his head. He remained looking at her with a comforting ease while she was about to begin speaking again.

“You could’ve added a little more flavoring in the soup too.” Jessica continued her evaluation of Kris’s cooking, making Kris hum as he listened. “The broth could’ve been better…” she finished off with a small giggle, knowing that he did have more than a few flaws.

“Okay,” Kris only smiled ever so accepting. “I’ll keep that in mind for next time.”

While Jessica was sitting there impressed with the fact that he had in mind to keep cooking for her, Jessica was only frozen in her seat when Kris reached forward and lovingly ran his thumb over her lower lip. Kris ended up placing his thumb into his mouth, eating whatever was previously on her lips. She merely blinked at him in surprise at the suddenness. His actions made her heart flutter, just like always.

The two remained staring at each other for a moment. During that time, Jessica swore she wanted to jump back into Kris’s arms. She swore she saw the loving look in his eyes that he always gazed at her with that made her feel so warm and cherished. She just didn’t want to fight anymore and forgive him for everything and she definitely saw that in Kris’s eyes too. They were tired of being separated from each other.

Kris inched his face closer to hers. Jessica met him halfway. Kris’s fingers caressed her jaw-line as their foreheads touched and their noses brushed against each other. The two nuzzled at the close, warming contact between them. Their eyes began to flutter to a close, ready to seal their lips. Ready to end all this emotional distress. Ready to end all this stupid fighting.

A loud pounding made the two take in a short small intake of breath at the disruption. A distance was formed between them. The two were left staring at each other’s lips and hearing each other’s calm breathing.

“Kris!” Park Hana’s voice could be heard clearly on the other side of the front door. “I know you’re in there! Open up!!” she continued pounding on the door.

Kris suddenly heard Jessica take in a shaky breath. The view of her pink lips became a grim line before he saw that Jessica retracted away from him. Kris became stunned, not wanting to look up to see Jessica’s face. He knew that he would only face an upset or even angry Jessica. Kris sighed out, knowing he was in trouble. He took his chances and glanced up.

Jessica sat there with the most unreadable expression, staring right at him with a serious face. Kris shut his eyes and let his head drop down, knowing everything was going to be chaotic and difficult again. He couldn’t help but feel screwed at this point.

{Author's Note}: And y'all thought drama was ending. Shall we find out who Hana is now?? ;)
