Chapter 18

Forever

Author’s POV:

Lying on Kris’ side of the bed, Jessica hugged onto the pillow that her husband would always sleep on. The constant sound of sniffling could be heard from the wife as she lay there with a blank expression on her face. Her eyes pooled of tears with the evident traces of teardrops on her cheeks and pillow.

Ever since Jessica had saw Kris off at the airport, she had been shedding quiet tears. She somehow drove home safely and plopped herself on the bed. The tears were never ending. Not having the heart to call in sick, Jessica texted Tiffany that she wasn’t feeling well and needed the day off at work. Tiffany obviously knew what was going on and replied with a caring message.

Since then, Jessica was rooted in the same place on the bed. Her crying had decreased a whole lot compared to earlier. Now she was only lying silently on the bed with droopy eyes. Jessica already misses her husband.

Closing her eyes, Jessica was tired and wanted to get some rest. Her eyes would fail her, as they would open up when her body felt colder than usual. How in the world was she supposed to fall asleep without her angry bird? Her other half wasn’t there to lull her to sleep with his calming heartbeat and warmth.

A depressing sigh escaped her lips. Jessica tightened her hold on Kris’ pillow and snuggled her head onto the soft fabric of the plush headrest. All she could think of at the moment was; how is Kris doing? Is there enough room for his legs on the plane? Is he sleeping fine?

Jessica frowned. Jihae was there to keep him company. Kris probably wouldn’t even be sleeping or thinking about anything else. Not even her. Kris would be conversing happily with Jihae, even laughing like they were earlier at the airport. Tears pricked her eyes again and Jessica quickly shook her head and dispersed all the thoughts from her head. She didn't want to think about it.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang throughout the house. Jessica didn’t flinch at all, but only glanced around the room in thought. Who would be here? She wasn’t expecting anybody. Lifting her body off the mattress, Jessica sat up. Maybe Tiffany was here to check up on her.

The doorbell sounded yet again. Jessica patted her face to prep herself to answer the door. Hopefully she didn’t look too horrid. Walking at her own pace, Jessica slowly stepped down the flight of stairs. The door rang profusely in the meantime.

Jessica mumbled an incoherent, ‘hold on,’ as she shuffled sluggishly towards the front door. The repetitive ringing of the doorbell didn’t annoy her at all, as she already felt disheartened.

Once her hand wrapped around the door handle, Jessica opened the door. She had to give props to the person on the other side of the door to have so much patience for her to get the door in a dreadfully slow manner.

The figure outside of the door instantly engulfed Jessica in a hug after seeing her. “Are you okay? I was worried about you!” the masculine voice echoed into Jessica’s ear, making her tear up all over again.

“Whoa, this is exciting!” Jihae gripped onto her seat in anticipation, glancing at Kris with glistening eyes.

Kris only chuckled at her, stretching out his legs in comfort. “You should look out the window. It’s even more amazing.”

With that said, Jihae immediately looked out the window portal. Within a couple minutes, the accelerating airplane gradually started to move further up the runway. Jihae gasped and squealed in excitement, making Kris watch her in amusement.

“We’re above the clouds!” Jihae pointed out, looking back at Kris with wide eyes.

Kris simply nodded his head and smiled. “Quite remarkable, right?”

Jihae agreed with a huge grin on her face. “It’s so breathtaking.”

Kris couldn’t help but think that Jihae looked like a little kid in a candy store. The fact that Jihae has never been on an airplane before made her seem like an easily fascinated child who received their first toy. Kris found Jihae quite adorable.

Reaching over, Kris ruffled Jihae’s bangs lightly. “You’re so cute.”

His comment made Jihae’s eyes double in size. Her cheeks flushed red and she gave a shy smile before fixing her stray hairs. Immediately looking away from Kris, she reverted her eyes back towards the window to hide her obvious crimson face. Although her eyes were glued on the scenery of the clouds beneath her, Jihae could only concentrate on the rapid beating of her heart.

Fluttering her eyes open, Jihae awoke from her nap. A small yawn escaped from as she stretched her arms. She glanced around to figure out that she was still indeed in the airplane.

After getting used to seeing the sight of outside the airplane, Jihae was instructed to take a nap by none other than Kris. He told her that she might get exhausted when they land in Osaka because she was unable to sleep at all the night before.

“You’re awake.” Kris spoke up, eying her. “You took a fifteen minute nap.”

Jihae nodded and straightened up in her seat, rubbing her eyes. “You didn’t sleep?” she asked Kris who was in the midst of flipping through a magazine.

Kris shook his head. “I can’t sleep like this.” He didn’t specify his reason for not sleeping, knowing that he simply cannot fall asleep without Jessica.

An ‘o’ shape formed on Jihae’s lips. “Are we there yet?” she questioned, wondering if they were anywhere near Osaka yet.

“Nope, thirty more minutes.” Kris noted, fixing the earphones he had in one ear. “You can always watch a movie to pass time.”

Jihae became interested. “You can watch movies? Is that what you’re doing right now?” she pointed at his ear buds.

Kris snickered at her quick curiosity. “No, I’m actually listening to my music. But here,” he pressed a few button on the arm of her seat. “You just have to plug your earphones into here and watch from the screen in front of you.”

Jihae watched in interest as Kris detached his earphones from his phone and connected into the plughole that was on her armrest. Kris then handed her the left ear bud to put on, to which Jihae timidly accepted and placed in her ear. Putting the right bud into his ear, Kris then adjusted the volume to hear the sound the movie was making.

“See?” Kris pointed to the screen in front of her. “All you have to do is watch now.” He grinned.

Jihae looked over at him with genuine eyes and nodded her head. Kris faced forward and started to watch the film, leaving Jihae to stare at his incredibly handsome profile. Jihae shyly smiled and purposely leaned closer towards the armrest that was closer to Kris. Her smile never left her lips as she watched the movie, thinking about how personal she felt with Kris with the way they were sharing earphones.

A quick half hour went by and the plane landed safely in Osaka, Japan. Filing out of the plane, Kris helped Jihae go through the customs and the luggage pick up. The two ended up sharing a cart, as they placed their suitcases together. Kris obviously pushed the cart along with Jihae trailing right beside him.

“Wow…” Jihae was awed by the Osaka airport once she walked out to see the foyer filled with different stations and shops.

“Could you wait right here for a moment? I have to make a call.” Kris towed the cart to the side.

Jihae nodded her head understandingly and stood in Kris’ place as he walked a couple feet away from her to make a call.

Pulling out his phone, Kris immediately went to dial Jessica’s phone number. Placing his phone to his ear, Kris listened to the monotone sounds of the phone ringing. The call went to voicemail. Kris looked at his phone incredulously before hanging up. He tried to call again. All he heard was the ringing before he was reverted back to Jessica’s voicemail.

He glanced at the time. 11:13am. Japan’s time was the same as Korea’s. Surely Jessica would be awake at this time. The reason why Jessica wasn’t picking up was unknown to him. Sighing, Kris decided to leave a message, telling her that he has landed safely and also asking if she was okay. With that, he tucked his phone back into his pocket and made his way back to Jihae’s side.

“Jess didn’t pick up.” Kris curled his lips before grabbing the cart again.

Jihae raised her eyebrow at him, realizing that Kris was trying to contact Jessica. “Maybe she’s busy.” She guessed half-heartedly.

Kris rubbed his chin. “That’s true, she should be at work right now.” He quickly dissipated the thought. “Let’s head to the hotel now.”

Jihae immediately perked up and nodded her head in excitement.

Jessica patted her puffy eyes before sniffling. “What are you doing here, Tao?” she finally asked after the panda helped her feel better after she had poured her eyes out yet again.

“Fany noona told me that you weren’t feeling well because hyung left.” Tao rummaged through the fridge. “So I came to help you, noona! This panda will be here all day!” he beamed, pulling out a carton of orange juice.

Jessica grinned and patted Tao’s cheek. “Thank you, Tao.” She found it especially sweet that Tao would do such a considerate action for her. “Noona appreciates it.” she expressed her gratitude to have someone by her side while Kris is gone.

“No problem! Noona was always there for me, so I have to be there for noona!” Tao started to chug the juice from the carton. “Hyung is being a butthole for leaving you by yourself. Only someone stupid would do that.”

Reaching up, Jessica pinched Tao’s cheeks. “It’s Kris’ job. I can understand, but it’s hard being by myself at home. It’s lonely and I don’t have anyone to spend time with.”

Tao frowned, knowing how down in the dumps his noona is. “It’s okay noona! You have me!” the panda quickly squished Jessica in a big bear hug. “I’ll never leave you!”

His actions made Jessica break out in a smile. “Thank you, Tao.” She placed a motherly kiss on the panda’s cheek before ruffling his hair.

“Noona kissed me~” Tao cupped his face in joyousness, giggling excessively. “Hyung is going to be jealous and mad.” He frowned, remembering that Kris would savagely come after him if he knew about this.

Jessica placed her index finger in front of her lips. “What Kris doesn’t know, doesn’t hurt him right?” she playfully spoke.

Tao gasped before nodding deviously. “Oh~ Me and noona can have a secret!”

Jessica laughed at Tao’s childish ways. “Now what do you want for lunch?” she went ahead and opened the fridge while she let Tao get a chance to think.

The panda hummed and chugged down the rest of the orange juice. “Beef! I want meat!”

“Meat?” Jessica repeated after him and scanned the fridge for some meat.

“Kai hyung and Fany noona have been eating salads for a long time and I’m getting sick of it. I hate veggies even more now.” Tao sighed, slouching his shoulders.

Jessica pulled out two packets of beef and placed it on the counter before grinning at Tao. “Our panda is growing up and needs his protein~” she spoke teasingly.

Tao pouted his lips. “Of course! This panda has been eating boring greens ever since his hyung and noona abandoned him!” he folded his arms in denial.

“I’ll make it up to you now, how about that? We’ll have samgyupsal for lunch.” Jessica washed her hands in preparation to start cooking.

A huge gasp was heard from Tao’s wide-open mouth. “Really?!” his eyes glistening with his hopes up.

Jessica simply acknowledged his thoughts when she smiled and gave him a nod. “If you want, you can help me cook.”

By this time, Tao dumbly gaped at his noona. “R-Really?” he spoke in a mere whisper.

“Yes, Tao.” Jessica placed a pan onto the stove before turning it on. “Go wash your hands first.”

Tao ecstatically hopped in place like a bunny before smashing Jessica into another big hug. Only his Jessica noona would allow him to cook with her. It was a known fact that Tao would literally burn a kitchen down if he were to even attempt to cook a simple egg.

“I’m going to use the bathroom first before we start!!” Tao ran out of the kitchen in full speed, leaving Jessica to chuckle at the panda’s happy manner.

As soon as Tao stepped out of the kitchen, he heard a ringtone. The panda stopped in his steps and slowly followed the sound. Being led into the living room from the ringing phone, Tao saw Jessica’s cell phone sitting on the coffee table. Picking up his noona’s phone, Tao was about to run back into the kitchen to inform Jessica that her phone was ringing. It wasn’t until Tao saw the caller ID that he stayed glued in his spot.

Kris was calling.

Tao stared intently at the default ID picture Jessica had set every time Kris would call her. The panda was contemplating whether or not he should pick up the call. Being reminded of having Jessica sad over Kris, Tao decided that he wouldn’t pick up. He didn’t want Jessica to possibly cry all over again because of him.

So instead, Tao blew a raspberry at the picture of Kris on the phone. Tao slid the phone back onto the table and calmly skipped away.

That’s what hyung gets for making noona upset. Humph.’ Tao thought.

“Kris Wu.” Kris gave the receptionist his name, letting the woman find his hotel room on the computer while Jihae stood patiently behind him in line.

“Wu…” The woman had found their room within a few seconds. “Ah, Mr. Kris Wu. You’ve been booked for a double bedded room along with…Park Jihae.” The worker squinted her eyes at the screen to read out the name.

Kris’ eyes widened. “Excuse me? My company arranges separate rooms for every single trip.”

The receptionist only shrugged her shoulders. “I’m afraid I cannot help you there, Mr. Wu. All our rooms have been booked for the weekend.”

Jihae had heard the entire conversation and looked on with wide, uncomprehending eyes.

Kris let out an exasperated sigh before looking back at Jihae. “Are you willing to share a room with me?” he inquired.

A crimson color flushed on Jihae’s face as she thought about sharing a room with Kris. They’ll have to share their personal space and there will be no doubt that they’ll have to be close together. Jihae’s face contorted into a sheepish grin at the thought of seeing Kris every single morning when she wakes up.

Jihae nodded her head and cleared . “Yeah, that’s no problem.” She replied shyly.

Kris didn’t catch her timid reaction and decided to take the room. Once all the check-in was finished and over with, the two proceeded up the elevator to their shared room. Being nice enough, Kris helped carry Jihae’s suitcase as well.

Jihae did the favor and opened the door, letting Kris walk inside first. Setting the luggage down on the side of the small room, Kris scanned the interior of the room. It was a fairly regular room with two twin beds and a single bathroom.

Running up to window, Jihae eagerly peeked out into the city of Osaka, Japan. Her giddiness was written all over her face and it wasn’t hard to read at all.

It wasn’t long until Kris suggested that they should go out and explore the city a little, seeming that their first day in Japan was a free day without any meetings or work. Jihae was more than excited to take a tour around the surrounding city.

Crossing the street from the hotel, it wasn’t long until they found a busy street filled with people holding all kinds of shopping bags. It was definitely a popular shopping street.

“Whoa…it’s just like the pictures on the internet!” Jihae took in the sight of the streets of Osaka.

Kris glanced up to examine the scenery of the busy streets for a moment before going back to find some possible shops to purchase a little souvenir for Jessica. While Jihae was busy taking pictures, Kris located a store just a few feet away.

“Let’s go there.” He pointed towards a small shop.

Jihae looked in the direction his finger was pointing to before nodding her head. “Sure.” She had planned to get some shopping done as well and this was a nice time to do so.

Once inside the shop, Kris glanced around the little accessories shop. He didn’t know where to start so he would follow Jihae to examine what she would look at. It wasn’t long until the two walked out of the store after not finding anything eye catching at all.

Stepping back out onto the busy street, they encountered many bustling people on the sidewalk that it was hard to know where each other were. Trying to swerve his body around people, Kris was weaving himself in and out of the crowd to avoid being touched or shoved.

Jihae struggled to keep up with him and had no choice but to squeeze in between people with her constant apologies for bumping into others. It wasn’t until Kris remembered that he had another person with him that he looked back in the middle of a crowd. Jihae took a minute to reach back to where he was and even accidentally bumped into his chest, as she wasn’t looking up, but instead look down to see any feet that she’d trip over.

“Oh, sorry!” Jihae held the part of her forehead that bumped into Kris before her face turned into a tomato again.

Kris only gave her a forgiving smile. “That’s okay. There are a lot of people.” He spoke up before bending his elbow towards her. “I don’t want you to get lost.”

Jihae glanced up at him with her wide eyes. Kris only nudged his arm closer to her, urging her to latch on. Biting down on her lower lip, Jihae slowly slipped her arm into his. Her face in a deep crimson color as her heart palpitated extremely fast at the close contact.

Squirming through the mob, Kris guided Jihae through it all. Scared that she’d trip over anything or anyone, Jihae hugged on tighter to Kris’ arm. Once she realized how close she was holding on to Kris, Jihae couldn’t help but only concentrate on Kris’ warmth and how toned his arm was.

Jihae couldn’t help but admit that her heart flutters every time she sees Kris smile at her. Her heart skips a beat each time Kris touches her and she just instinctively turns red when Kris does something sweet around her. Was it weird to feel this way towards her boss?

Jihae has fallen for Kris’ acts of kindness and she just couldn’t help it.
