Chapter 53

Forever

Author’s POV:

Jessica’s Pregnancy Calendar – Week 17

Another day with Kris at work. Jessica had another pregnancy productive day. She went out to take a long walk and even came home with groceries. The whole day was spent cleaning around the house and doing productive work. A regular day would consist of making breakfast for her and Kris, take a long walk, eat lunch, rest, watch television, go online, make dinner before Kris comes home. Occasionally, she would talk to baby blip.

Lately, Jessica had been extremely lonely without Kris. On some days, she would feel too down to even get up from bed. On other days, she would even shed some tears. It was a constant rollercoaster ride filled with pregnancy hormones for her. She just doesn’t even understand why she felt like this.

The only activity that she really looked forward to at the end of the day was preparing dinner. She knew that when she was cooking, Kris would come home at exactly 6:30pm and greet her with a back hug.

But today was different.

Setting the last of plates down on the dining table, Jessica pouted her lips. Kris wasn’t home. He was late. Jessica sat down at the dining table, checking her phone for any messages from him. Nothing.

Jessica wondered why he was late tonight. He usually comes home on time even on the busiest days. She figured that Kris got stuck in traffic, so she started to patiently wait for him.

Five minutes. 6:35pm. Kris entered the house, holding a stack of files and his blazer. His first movement was to place the items down in the living room before looking for his wife. Once he found her waiting in the dining room, he gave her a smile.

“I’m home.” He gave her a kiss to the cheek. “Sorry I’m late. I got extra work before I was going to leave the office.”

“It’s okay.” She smiled. “Go get changed and we can eat. I don’t want the food to get super cold.”

Kris gave her another kiss before he walked off to get changed into more comfortable clothes. Once he walked off, Jessica squinted her eyes at his backside. He ate candy. Strawberry flavored.

Her sense of smell became much more stronger due to the pregnancy. Just having him talk next to her made her know what he had eaten. It was as obvious as her walking in the vegetable aisle in the supermarket. She couldn’t take walking in that aisle because she could smell the cucumbers from a mile away. She just couldn’t stand it.

“Did you eat candy?” Jessica asked once he walked back in.

Kris only smiled at her and nodded. “Yeah, you left some in the car.” Jessica only grinned, now remembering that familiar scent of strawberry. “Why?”

“Your tongue is red.” Jessica stuck her own tongue at him playfully.

The two continued to eat in a happy atmosphere, smiling and laughing here and there. “How were you and blip today?”

“We were great. Blip didn’t kick much today. Must be a comfortable day.” Jessica smiled.

The next day, the same thing happened. Kris came home late. Rather than just five minutes late, he was fifteen minutes late. Again, Jessica worried about him. It was probably work or traffic again. The world can be so unpredictable sometimes.

Kris wanted samgyupsal tonight. Jessica had made it and since he was so anxious to have it, she didn’t expect him to come home so late. During the long fifteen minutes, Jessica found herself hopelessly wondering and worrying. She mindlessly started to chew on a piece of lettuce. She just hopes Kris didn’t get in any trouble or accident.

The sound of the door opened finally and Jessica immediately looked up, hearing every step Kris was making. His footsteps came closer until he appeared at the doorframe. His lips gave an apologetic smile.

“Hey, I’m home.” Kris was about to go over and give her a kiss, but refrained from doing so when he saw her solemn expression.  “Sorry I was late.” He sat down in his seat in front of her.

Jessica looked up at him with a somber look. “What took you so long?”

“I got held up at work again. Sorry.” Kris apologized again, explaining himself this time.

“I was worried, Kris. You could’ve at least texted me.” She gave him a troubled look. “I was really worried. You made me wait fifteen minutes without any notice.”

“I’m sorry. I should’ve told you. It’s my fault, sorry.” Kris completely understood her feelings. “I’ll let you know the next time this happens. Don’t worry.”

Jessica gave him a forgiving smile. “Go get changed then. I don’t want you to get your work clothes stained.”

“I love you.” Kris leaned over and captured her lips quickly before striding upstairs.

Jessica’s grin only disappeared when her body stilled and she furrowed her eyebrows. She watched Kris retreat to their bedroom with a hard look of her eyes. That’s weird…

That night in bed, Jessica snuggled up to her pregnancy pillow. Resting her head on the plush pillow made her have a front row seat of her husband’s flawless face. Only instead of awing over her husband’s handsome face, she was trying to figure something out. Kris only looked back at her, wondering why she was examining him so intensely.

“What’s going through that pretty head of yours?” He asked, tucking a few of her stray hairs behind her ear.

“Nothing.” Jessica shifted so that her face hid behind the pillow, sparing any looks from Kris.

She heard Kris chuckled and mutter, “Cute.”

Just when she thought she hid herself from Kris, her husband lifted up the barrier just enough to stick his head through and kiss her goodnight. “Night. Dream of me. Love you.” He gave her several pecks before Jessica playfully shoved him back to his side of the bed.

Her little smile disappeared when she thought back to her contemplation. There was only one thing going through her head. All Jessica could think of was: why did Kris smell like a woman’s perfume when he came home?

Jessica knew one thing though; it surely wasn’t the scent of her own perfume. Ugh, I don’t even want to think about it. She groaned before she shut her eyes. If it was something important and worth sharing, Kris would’ve told her.

When Jessica opened her eyes, she found Kris dressing himself for work. A little smile appeared on her lips. No matter what he was doing, Kris just seems to be perfect. When Jessica noticed the time, she realized that it was earlier than when he usually would rise.

“You’re up early.” Jessica mumbled, sitting up on the bed.

“Yeah, there’s a meeting first thing today.” Kris spoke, still topless with his dress shirt in hand.

Jessica only kept grinning as she stared at her husband. “…Okay.”

Kris only eyed her closely, knowing that she was staring at his body with no shame at all. “What are you looking at, Mrs. Wu?” he smirked, tipping her chin up with his index finger.

“I don’t know.” Jessica replied playfully, knowing she was caught looking.

“Oh really?” Kris tilted his head and leaned in closer, letting her relish the smell of his cologne. “Because it seemed to me you were checking me out, Mrs. Wu.” He held onto her back and slowly made her lay down as he hovered atop of her.

Jessica giggled, “Maybe I was, Mr. Wu.”

“Oh, were you now?” Kris grinned, kissing her lips in a slow manner.

“I said maybe.” She delicately slid her fingers on his jaw line.

“I take that as a yes.” Kris sighed on her lips before he started to trail his lips across her jaw-line and down towards her neck.

Jessica’s focus suddenly shifted from Kris’s touches to her thoughts from last night. Even though she told herself that it wasn’t something to dwell on, she couldn’t help but feel angry and upset. Kris would never hide things from her. At least he shouldn’t…

The annoyance and irritation got the best of her and she wasn’t in the mood anymore. Jessica shoved Kris off of her, leaving him dumbfounded and wondering why she stopped him.

“You’re going to be late for your meeting.” Jessica spoke a little too seriously as she glanced at the time and sat back up.

“I still have ten minutes to spare…” Kris tried to sneak his hand up her shirt.

Jessica only avoided him by standing up and walking towards the door. “I’ll go prepare breakfast first. You should get ready.” Her tone of voice was distant and cold.

Kris only huffed out a breath and ruffled his hair in frustration. He had thought Jessica wasn’t as emotional and hormonal today. He actually thought he was going to have his way this morning, to have a little happy time. Kris groaned and flopped back down onto the mattress. Jessica is hormonalagain, he thought.

Seeing that Kris has not come down for over five minutes, Jessica knew he was going to be running late. Efficiently grabbing a few tupperware out of the cupboard, the wife already had breakfast heated up on the stove. She quickly packed his breakfast into the plastic container. While she was at it, she even brewed him a cup of coffee, which she had to switch it into a ceramic cup for him to take on the go.

Kris came rushing down the stairs with a presentable look; hair and clothes all on point. Jessica only calmly placed a fork on top of his sealed container, which held his lunch. The husband just blinked.

“Breakfast and your coffee.” Jessica pointed out each item. “Don’t make a mess in the car.” She leaned her elbows on the counter in a leisurely manner.

Kris’s moment of panic settled as he gave his wife a grateful smile. “I. Love. You.” He kissed her at each syllable, even if Jessica didn’t seem to be in the mood for kisses.

Jessica only hummed. “Dinner is at 6:30.”

“I know.” Kris kissed her forehead. “I’ll see you later tonight then.” He grabbed his breakfast off the counter before walking towards the front door.

Jessica followed behind him and helped him by draping his almost forgotten blazer over his arm, as his hands were already filled. She also handed him the files that he brought home last night, which was tucked under his arm. Kris gave her a kiss before dashing out the door.

Just as Jessica leaned on the doorframe to watch him go off, Kris suddenly turned back around when he realized he forgot something. The wife only looked at him in curiosity. Did he forget something?

“I almost forgot…” Kris leaned down and kissed her tummy – blip. “Let me know if blip kicks today. I’ll see you two when I come home.” He grinned before striding towards his car because Kris Wu does not run, no matter how late he is.

Jessica couldn’t help but produce a smile. Kris just knows how to get to her. Every single time.

“Drive safe!” She called out, worried that he might not be able to multitask while driving.

Kris, who was about to shut the car door, only peeked his head out and gave her a knowing smile before doing so. Within seconds, the black car drove off, leaving Jessica to be home alone again.

Jessica only rubbed her tummy. “What are we going to do about your dad, blip? He’s such a mess.” She grinned, talking to her baby. “A sweet mess.”
