Eunjae’s POV~

“Yo Eunjae!” I turned around to come face to face with our school’s celebrity, Yong Junghyung.

“What do you want?” I ask trying not to blush. He simply holds up a flier and asks,

“Did you see this?” I look at it and can’t help but smirk.

So that’s what he wanted from the start huh? I yawn, trying to give off the vibe that I’m bored.

“So what about this dance competition?” He rolls his eyes at me like I didn’t see the concept of our conversation.

“Are you entering it?” I lean in close so he would stare at my face,

“Did you want me to enter it? Or you think you can win by default? Of course I’m entering.” He gave me a crooked grin and said,

“Good. Otherwise it wouldn’t be fun without our school dancing queen entering the competition.” I turned around and before I left, I looked over my shoulder and said,

“Same thing for the school’s dancing king.” Our school is one for performing arts. And so far in ranking, Junghyung and I are at the top for the dancing portion. We have different styles of dancing though. He does hip hop, popping, and b-boy; I do contemporary and tap. Yet, we both met before when we were little when (you’ll probably laugh at this) we both did ballroom and b-boy together.

Junghyung’s POV~

I remember when my mom forced me into ballroom -.- I was paired up with the teacher’s daughter; Eunjae. I wasn’t the worst but I wasn’t the best. I knew I wanted to dance but this wasn’t my style. It was later that she introduced me to other styles like hip hop. How surprised do you think I was when I saw her taking a b-boy summer class with me a week after I quit ballroom? We would go out before but never became official. Now, we just challenge each other and sometimes unintentionally flirt, but that’s it.

“Hey guys, you can head off without me, I’m gonna stay after school at our dance studio to work on my routine.” I said and as if on cue, the bell rang. I went straight to studio B and couldn’t help but smirk,

“You just can’t stay away from me can you?” Eunjae greets me.

Eunjae’s POV~

We had different styles of working on choreography, yet it worked out. I like to hear the song and then work out my moves. Junghyung likes to freestyle and then work on the choreography later.

“You’ve gotten sloppy on your popping skills.” I comment, I can’t resist the urge to from time to time. He chuckles and replies,

“You’re forms aren’t so sharp either.”

Junghyun’s POV~

I’m still stuck on my song choice. I looked through so many songs already, yet none of them speak out to me.

“Hey, do you by chance have any good songs to recommend for me?” I finally ask Eunjae. She shakes her head and asks me,

“So you can’t find the right song either huh?” We simply stare at the mirror in front of us, trying to either create a new dance move or work on what we already have.

“Hey, there’s supposed to be a music festival tomorrow. Did you wanna come with me? Maybe we can find some song we both need.” I bring up scratching the back of my head. She gives me a warm smile and says,

“I’d like that. Sound like another one of our dates?” I gently punch her arm and say,

“Sure does.”

Eunjae’s POV~

We were both enjoying the adrenaline rush when the bands came out and played their songs. I looked over at Junghyun and he already had a crowd gathered around him, watching him dancing. He saw me watching and pulled me in, busting out some b-boy moves in front of me.

“You didn’t forget them did you?” He mocked sending the crowd in a frenzy. I only rolled my eyes at his cockiness and responded with a clean pin drop.

Junghyung’s POV~

We were both so lost in our moves that we didn’t notice the song was over and a new artist came on stage. We were both laughing and talking, but when the song was a minute into it, we both stopped to listen.

“This song..” Eunjae trailed off. We both exchanged glances and knew we found the song we were both looking for.

Eunjae’s POV~

I was so nervous. I would always get butterflies in my stomach before I step out on stage. Junhyung was sitting next to me, waiting for his turn. I was so confident in my routine, I stayed up late last night working out some last minute details but it all works out fine.

“Guys! We have a problem.” Our friend Hyunseung said running toward us.

“Not just a problem. A HUGE problem.” Kiwkang came running in followed by Yoseob, Doojoon, and Dongwoon.

“Why? What happened?” I asked worried.

“There were two contestants with the same song choice and the judges said that wasn’t allowed, so they both left since they couldn’t choreograph a new routine.” I looked over at Junghyung and I knew he felt the same fear I felt.

Junhyung’s POV~

I couldn’t help but vent my anger out at a nearby wooden table. I punched at it and heard a cracking noise coming from the legs holding it up.

“We’re dead.” Eunjae commented covering her face with her hands. I worked so hard on my routine and I know Eunjae did too. I made sure my ending was perfect! I looked at one of those mocking fliers posted on the wall and couldn’t help but smirk when I re-read it.

“Maybe not, Eunjae; me and you are the last two people to go right?” I asked her and she gave me a reassuring nod. I quickly lifted her up to her feet and told her,

“Dance with me. Be my partner.”

Eunjae’s POV~

O_O

“EhHh?!” I shouted startling some of the nearby contestants.

“We only have like, an hour to make up a new routine? Are you suicidal?” I half yelled half whispered.

“Come on Eunjae, I know it sounds hard. But you and I both know we can make something up.” I was still unsure and freaking out when he stepped closer to me and said,

“Besides, you were the best dance partner I’ve ever had. And like the competition said, dance till your heart beats. And every time I dance with you or near you, my heart races.” I couldn’t help but feel a little warm at his comment and sighed.

“I can’t believe what I’m getting myself into. You do realize our styles are almost completely different, right?” I ask crossing my arms over my chest. He winks at me and leads me to an empty practice room,

“We’ll work something out.”

Eunjae’s POV~

I was practically out of breath when they called our names. We were done for. We got half of the song done but then we needed to go up. I looked at Junhyung and he gave me a pleading look. I honestly didn’t know what to do at that point. We headed up toward the stage to be greeted by an anticipating audience.

“Cue music!” The host announces and we wait a full 5 seconds before the music blasts through the speakers.

This is it.

I thought to myself as the 2 minute mark hit the song. I didn’t know what to do so I finished my part with a finishing pose. I looked over at Junghyun and saw him still dancing. Yet, it wasn’t the routine we practiced. They weren’t even the moves he originally rehearsed. He gave me a small smirk and mouthed to me,

“Freestyle.” I gave him a reassured nod and as soon as the rap portion of the song came in, I began my own routine.

Junhyung’s POV~

As soon as we finished our routine, the crowd went wild and we ran backstage. The minute we ran back, Eunjae wrapped her arms around me. I spun her around and once I gently put her down, my emotions got to me and I kissed her for the first time. I saw her blushing furiously and was about to when Dongwoon came in and said,

“You guys lied! I don’t believe you guys just made that up an hour ago!”

“You guys were really good by yourselves, but together you guys were AMAZING!” Doojoon said ruffling my hair.

“I couldn’t have done it without her.” I said wrapping my my arm around Eunjae’s petite frame. She gently pecked my cheek and said,

“Me neither, partner.”
