I wish it was that easy.

“Don’t make that long face, it’ll scare girls away.” JJ said gently pinching my cheeks.

“So what’s your excuse for scaring away boys?” I said jokingly and she quickly punched my side and yelled,

“Punch buggy no punch backs!”

“Wait, what?” I ask astounded. Krystal’s simply leaning against the wall staring at her fingernails and simply shrugged.

“I just thought that we should break up.”

“Why?” I ask with a hint of hurt in my voice.

“I don’t know, I just think we should.” Krystal said staring at her phone.

“Well, bye.” She quickly said giving me a heart hearted wave before heading off to the lunchroom.

JJ’s POV~

“Hello? Minhwan?~” I chant pushing up the tip of his nose so he looks like a piggy.

“What’s wrong? You’ve been down since lunch.” I ask. I quickly look around and our teacher still isn’t here -.-

“Krystal and I broke up.” He muttered. I gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder and said,

“That’s great isn’t it? I mean you wanted to break up, right?” I was expecting him to jump up and celebrate and he simply replied,

“She dumped me. I should be happy, but she was my first girlfriend.” I couldn’t help but puff out my cheeks and console him,

“Maybe it was meant to be? I bet you can find someone a million time better, ne?” He slowly nodded but then turned around and had this confused look on his face.

“What do you mean find someone else?” I shrugged and told him,

“I don’t know, someone to help you cope with the breakup, to get your mind off of Krystal or something.” He was about to say something back but the teacher came in and we were forced to copy down the notes on the board.

Minhwan’s POV~

I was really thinking about JJ’s words when an idea popped into my head. Once the bell rang I spun around to face JJ and asked her,

“Will you be my girlfriend?” She had this exact expression on her face: O_O

“BWUAHH?!?!?” She yelled loud enough for some of the remaining students to snicker at. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at her misunderstanding.

JJ’s POV~

E-eh? How could? I mean…WHAT!? I felt my heart racing and I knew I was probably as red as a ripe tomato. Minhwan rolled his eyes at me and said,

“It was your idea.” O_O

“I never said to make me your girlfriend!” I whispered to him through the halls, making sure no gossip would begin.

“I just thought you can be my girlfriend so I can get over Krystal.” He said in a little kid voice. I couldn’t help but look at his puppy dog pout and ruffle his hair.

“Ok, ok. But only pretend arasso?” He nodded and replied,

“Don’t worry; I don’t have feelings like those for you.” I knew it was true, yet it still hurt hearing those words coming from him.

Minhwan’s POV~

“So this is our first ‘date?’” JJ asks putting air quote around the word “date.”

“Yup, not official but something close to it.” I replied leaning against the wire fence that encircled the rooftop.

“Oh that reminds me! Here.” She said holding out a lunch box. I gently took it and asked her,

“What’s this?” She took out another lunch box and began eating hers.

“You usually don’t eat, so I thought you might be willing to try some of my food. So, there you go.” She said and gave me a small smile. That was so kind of her. Krystal never did anything like that for me.

You’re not supposed to be thinking of Krystal!

I quickly shook the thought out of my head and began chowing down JJ’s homemade food.

“Wahh!~ It’s really delicious.” I commented amazed that I didn’t know she could cook so well.

“Yah slowdown will you? The food’s not gonna run away from you so take it easy. Here drink some water.” JJ said handing me my water bottle.

“Aish, look what you did.” She said and gently wiped at my cheek revealing some sauce.

“Th-thanks.” I said trying not to blush.

Hongki’s POV~

“I’m home!” I heard JJ yelling through the front door. I got up off the couch and was about to hug her when I saw Minhwan next to her. I gave him a small nod and said,

“Hey long time no see Minhwan, how have you been?”

“Not bad, your cousin has been helping me out with some things. When’d you get here?” He asks. Minhwan and I are actually pretty good friends. After we talked for some minutes JJ and Minhwan plopped down in the living room to study.

Oh sorry, I meant they went to “study.” ;)

Minhwan’s POV~

“So then you factor x to the negative y sum and you get…” She trails off hinting that I should complete the problem.

“57?” I ask. She blows on her bangs that fell toward her eyes and I couldn’t help but smile at that small gesture she did.

“No it’s 74.” She says and hands me another problem. I couldn’t help but stare at JJ, she had this cute look on her face full of determination. And every time she would think hard; she would tap the tip of her pencil to her chin and nibble on her bottom lip.

“Yah stop chewing on your lip.” I said gently pinching her cheeks. Her cheeks turned a rosy pink and said,

“It helps me think.”

Hongki’s POV~

I saw :3 I came from the kitchen to hand them some snacks but didn’t want to interrupt anything. I stood from afar and tried to hold in my laughter. Every time Minhwan would look at JJ, JJ would look at him and he would turn away. Every time JJ stared at him, Minhwan would turn around and she would turn around blushing. It was so cute seeing them :3 I finally decided to come in between and grabbed them both by the shoulder.

“Wh-why are you dragging us out Hongki-hyung?” Minhwan asked as I headed for the front door.

“Yah let us go!” JJ complained and tried to dig her feet into the ground. I placed them outside and said,

“You two love birds can come back when you go on a date. You have to send me a picture so I know you actually went. Then I’ll let you guys inside. Ok have fun you two!~” I commented and shut the door on their shocked expressions.

JJ’s POV~

-.-; That idiot excuse I have for a brother. I turned to Minhwan and bowed slightly,

“Sorry about him, he can be a weirdo sometimes. I’ll get the key from the back and we can continue studying.” I was about to head off when Minhwan suddenly pulled at my wrist and said,

“It’s ok, I think it’ll be good for us to go out. The weather’s nice.” I mistook his statement and felt my ears burning up.

Calm down JJ, you’re probably taking this the wrong way. Remember, you’re his “girlfriend” so he can get over his ex.

I nodded as we headed off to the nearby park.

Minhwan’s POV~

After we walked around for about an hour, we sat down on an empty bench and simply stared at the multiple couples walking by.

“It’s must be nice for them.” I heard JJ comment with a feeling of longing. I found myself staring at her yet again and wondered

Why do you continue to stare at her? You’ve never done this before. Why does your heart beat so fast and you get all self-conscience? You were only like that when you were dating Krystal.

That was the first time I actually thought about Krystal. JJ actually helped me forget about her. Yet, how can I explain these new feelings I have for her?

I can’t take this anymore. We were always honest around each other so I’m just going to come out and say it,

“Ne JJ? I think I like you more than a friend.” She turned to me and I was expecting a look of disgust or rejection. Yet she looked at me with bulging eyes and an open mouth.

“Ehh?! I think I’m taking it the wrong way Minhwan. What do you mean?” She said fidgeting in her seat.

“I feel myself turning red and blushing around you, I keep staring at you, when you smile I can’t help but smile back, and every time you act cute I feel like hugging you or k-kissing you.” Well, there goes my dignity. I was shutting my eyes expecting laughter, yet I see her smiling and saying,

“I like you like that too Minhwan.” To add to my surprise, she gently pecked me on the lips and giggled.

“Ne JJ?” I asked with a smile.

“Mm?”

“I don’t want you to be my pretend girlfriend. Will you be my real and official girlfriend?” She giggled and hugged me,

“Yeah, I’d like that.”
