Seongyeol’s POV~

“Hey Seongyeol, what’s the matter? Cat’s got your tongue?” The kids at the playground teased me.

“N-No, I just have a sore throat.” I said pointing to my neck. The cupped their ears and asked in a mocking tone,

“What’s that? You have a weird neck infection?” Everyone backed away from me like I was some sort of diseased animal. I felt the tears beginning to form. Why are they teasing me?

“Hey look he’s about to cry-” The bully began before some girl pushed him into the sandbox.

“Leave him alone Jonghyun!” She yelled. They were both older than me so I’m guessing they’re around the same age.

Hyesu’s POV~

“Let’s get out of here! It’s Hyesu!” They scrambled up and ran away. I looked down at the kid who got bullied and offered a hand.

“Are you ok?” I ask. Nobody should be bullied like that. Especially if he’s younger than them. He gave me a shy nod and said,

“Thank you noonim.” I couldn’t help but smile at that and excitedly bounced in my place.

“Ne ne what’s your name?” I asked excitedly.

“S-Seongyeol.” He said with a shy smile. I pointed to my face and replied,

“Nice to meet ya Seongyeol. I’m Hyesu. You’re younger than me, ne?” He gently nodded his head and I replied,

“Yay! Then you’re my dongsaeng and I’m your noonim.” I saw him give me a confused look and say in a timid voice,

“I’m never had a noonim.”

Seongyeol’s POV~

“Hyesu!” I said tackling her from behind. She ruffled my hair and replied,

“Dongsaeng! Where’ve you been? I was about to leave without you.” I gave her a small pout and replied,

“You wouldn’t leave without you’re dongsaeng noonim.” She rolled her eyes at me but knew it was true. We were walking around the carnival holding hands like a little brother and sister. It’s always been like this since the day we met.

“Ne ne Hyesu-noonim, wanna play that game with me?” I asked pointing to a red and gold booth that caught my attention. It had a long crowd and everyone began cheering when one person left.

“I don’t even know what that booth is abou.” She commented giving a suspicious look. I drag her along and say,

“Come on! It could be fun!”

Hyesu’s POV~

“Next!” The man in his late forties yelled at us. We walked up and he gave us one quick glance and said,

“Kiss.”

“EHH!?” We both exclaimed. I felt my cheers turn a bright crimson and saw Seongyeol’s ears burning red.

“Stop wasting my time kids! You either kiss or you don’t!” I was gently pulling Seongyeol away when the crowd behind us started yelling,

“Boo! You wasted our time!” I began panicking and I saw Seongyeol with a frightened look on his face. Wow, no peer pressure right?  -.-

“Just, one quick kiss?” Seongyeol asked and the man nodded.

“Are you ok with this Hyesu-noonim?” He asked and I should’ve been the adult here. Saying, No dongsaeng let’s just leave. Yet, I felt my head nod and we both leaned in.

Seongyeol’s POV~

I felt her lips graze my own for only a mere second but I felt a warm feeling overcome my body. My heart was beating wildly and when we broke apart, the whole crowd cheered.

“Wow, that was the strongest feel I got today, out of all the other couples. I wish you two the best of luck…NEXT!” The man in charge of the booth yelled and we both ran off.

My heart was still beating wildly and I took one quick glance at Hyesu, only to have our eyes meet.

“Well, now I know what that booth is. Look.” She said pointing to a sign that said “Lover’s Fortune.”

“I-I’m sorry Hyesu-noonim.” I said apologizing.

Hyesu’s POV~

“I’m sorry too Seongyeol.” I said, but somewhere in me, I knew I wasn’t. I didn’t hate the kiss and it didn’t seem wrong. My heart was still beating so fast and I noticed Seongyeol and I were still holding hands. He seemed to notice that too and quickly pulled his own hand back.

“S-sorry, my hand fell asleep.” He muttered.

The rest of that day was so strange to me. Seongyeol kept his distance and tried to avoid sudden contact with us. He wouldn’t even want to share some cotton candy with me, like we always did. I thought I was just imagining things but I was wrong. We always rode the Ferris wheel to finish off a trip and there was one at this carnival. I gently tugged at Seongyeol’s hand and said,

“Ne Seogyeol, let’s get a cart?” He seemed troubled by my suggestion and said,

“N-no sorry Noonim, I think I’m too tired for today.” It hurt me when he said that. He doesn’t always call me noonim. He adds my name in front or just calls me by my name. And he’s usually the one who always suggests the Ferris wheel; he’s the ball of energy in our relationship.

“Oh, ok.” I replied trying to hide my disappointment.

“I’ll drop you off at your house.” He says and I reply in a cracked tone,

“N-no! I mean, I want to take the bus for a change.” He gave me a small look of hurt and I couldn’t handle it so I ran off.

Seongyeol’s POV~

I couldn’t help but stare at her back before she disappeared into the crowd. I kicked a nearby metal box to get my anger out.

What’s wrong with you Seongyeol? She’s your noonim! How can you be so disrespectful to her today? She’s one of your best friends!

But I knew there was something more. Something more than friends. Ever since that game I couldn’t concentrate anymore. Even if I gently grazed her hand or shoulder, I was reminded of the kiss and I pushed myself away. I thought she wouldn’t really notice but she did. The look of hurt and pain she gave me before running off was just too much to bear.

“Hyesu-noonim. Mianhe.” I muttered under my breath to no one in particular. I clenched my fists so tightly that the knuckles turned white and ran off after her. The bus stop shouldn’t be that far.

Hyesu’s POV~

I was sitting on the nearby bench, waiting for the bus when I felt a shadow loom over my pitiful self. I thought that the person wanted to sit so I moved myself over to the edge and hoped they would leave me alone. They sat next to me and I heard the familiar voice,

“Hyesu-noonim?” I looked to my left and saw Seongyeol sitting beside me with an apologetic look in his eyes. I wanted to hug him like I did before, but I had a feeling he would just push me away like he’s been doing the whole day today.

“Hyesu-noonim, ne can you do me a favor?” I didn’t reply. I know that’s a cold thing to do but I didn’t have any energy left in me.

“Please Hyesu-noonim?” I heard him plead. He had such helplessness to his tone that I faced him.

“Will you go on the Ferris wheel with me?” He asked. I couldn’t hold in my sigh and replied,

“I’m too exhausted Seongyeol.” I know that was a lie, but I don’t think I can handle another rejection from him.

“Please Hyesu? Just this once.” I couldn’t help but smile on this inside. That’s how he always got me to go on the rides. He would always mention, just this once. I slowly got up and said,

“Alright, come on.”

Seongyeol’s POV~

Once we sat next to each other (it was one of those where there was no roof over your head and one bench for two people maximum) I couldn’t help but blush at how close we were together. When we were little we had a whole lot of room on the bench. Now I felt our knees and shoulders touching.

“You’re uncomfortable, I can see it.” I heard Hyesu say with a little bit of hurt in her tone. We stopped about a quarter of the way to the top.

“I’m sorry Hyesu-noonim that I’ve been acting so strange today. It’s just because I was really self-conscience about the kiss earlier today.”

Hyesu’s POV~

I felt us moving toward and top after a few minutes. I knew it was because of that, yet I couldn’t help but ask him,

“Why?” He gave me a small chuckle and replied,

“Because I like you Hyesu-noonim. More than a dongsaeng and noona relationship.” I felt my heart skip a beat and asked him,

“Y-you do?” His face was a deep crimson red and he shyly nodded, like the first time I met him. I slowly reached for his hand and gently pecked him on the cheek

“Ne, me too dongsaeng.”
