“If you really want to help me then from today onwards, please. Don’t care for me anymore, Wonho-ssi. Don’t look out for me, don’t be nice to me. Even if it’s for the sake of my father. Just don’t.”

I still remember her words on that day. I can’t protest, not when I saw her sad eyes but I don’t know if I can comply.

I just can’t help it.

I’m doing this for the sake of her father.

Or maybe it’s just basic human instinct, I don’t know.

It’s already late at night and after we’re done with some of technical things for the Bona’s family gathering tomorrow, we had dinner at her house and decided to spend the night here since her parents insisted us to.

A promise is a promise and we have to fulfil it.

The room is still quiet when I open the door of the bathroom. It’s been like this since we first got into her room today and I really want us to talk to each other like we used to but I just can’t bring myself up to start a conversation.

I can only see her back from here, Bona haven’t moved from her desk since quite a while now. Maybe she’s doing her work… I take my phone from the side table and sit onto the bed but then, I can hear her phone rings.

“Oh, yes. I received your pictures. Yeah, it suits the style that Madam Kwon wants. Thanks, Taeil-ssi. Yes, I’ll talk to Soohyun-ssi about the materials.”

It seems that she’s talking to her colleague…

I tap my home screen and open my SNS, bored. It’s snowing, people are with their families, some are here, some are at the overseas… Those kind of pictures are all that I can see as I scroll through my timeline.

Nothing interesting, as usual.

“Really?!”

I look up to her when Bona suddenly raised her voice. But then, she bursts into a huge laughter.

“Ah, sorry Taeil-ssi. I just can’t hold myself when you mentioned about her husband… Aigoo... You saw me that day, right? I was holding my laughter throughout the meeting.” She continues to laugh for a while that I’m curious of what they’re talking about. “Yes, yes. I’ll continue after holiday, don’t worry. I’m just excited to finish this since it’s my first official client… Yes, I’ll stop now… Okay, good night.”

She hangs up but I can still hear her giggle while she’s still scribbling stuff at her desk.

Okay, I admit it. I want to ask her what is she doing now, what did they talked about before, is being an interior designer that fun? But no, she might still be angry with me. I don’t want to see that bitter face she made a few days back again, and so I didn’t say anything.

I put my phone back onto the side table and lie down on the bed.

“Good night, Bona.” I say and turn the lights off. Her body by the desk lamp freezes, it turns quiet again. She doesn’t even turn back.

I didn’t get a reply until I drift off to sleep.

It’s frustrating, seeing her like this. Her cold actions, her teary eyes, I hate them all. She only changes when her parents are around, just like now.

“My pretty baby, you look so beautiful tonight.”

Indeed, her father’s right. Clad in a glamourous black dress that only went a bit down to her thighs with her long raven hair tied neatly to one side, she looks stunning, even more with the light make up.

Bona only beams at her father’s words.

It’s the only time I can see her smile…
