CHAPTER 24

I went back to teaching and shared to my students the details of our successful expedition. Giving credits to their fellow students Wendy, Mark, Haechan, Jaehyun, and Taeyong for their job well done.

Amber already secured the teaching job for the coming Spring Term. While waiting for the new term, she works with Miss Hwang and Miss Choi in behalf of the Song Foundation regarding the test and procedures the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage is doing on the bones.  

The team of researchers already did the 3D imaging on their skulls and Amber said the results will be out on the day of the exhibit. I’m excited about this because if in any chance their 3D image will look a bit like me and Amber, then it is really true that we are their reincarnations.

Talking about the exhibit, yes the remains of the Gongju and the Gongzhu will be exhibited but it’s still tentative. The Chinese government and the Korean government are still in talks about the final resting place for the two. The Chinese wants to take home the Gongzhu, the Koreans wants them to stay together since they died here together. Other higher ups suggests that their remains should hold a traveling exhibition starting here in Seoul, then in China, HongKong, London, and in New York before going back home.

If I will to be asked, I don’t want to separate them. We didn’t spent our precious time to look for them, they didn’t enter my dreams just to be found and eventual separated in the end.

Mura Gongju didn’t gave up her life and be pierce with that sword together with her lover just to be laid to rest separately. Even I, if Amber and I one day will die wants our remains to be beside each other.

It was already my last class for the day and the last day of the term too. I was sitting in my chair behind my table inside the class theater waiting for my students to pour in, all 100 of them. They came in groups greeting me an advance Happy Holidays and I respond to their greetings too alternately with a smile and nod while reading an article at the National Geographic website. It was about the discovery of 2 skeletal remains buried under the walls of Moon Castle at Gyeongju. It was a mighty evidence on folklores about human beings that were sacrificed for the foundations of buildings, dams, or walls because it brings good fortune. It was said the remains dates back to the Silla Dynasty when the walls were being built.

My students were all chatting, talking excitedly on what their grades will be, what they will do in the Holiday season, if they will all still see each other again in the Spring term. It wasn’t really that noisy and since it’s already the last class, I let them do what they want before I start my farewell message to them.

I was so engrossed in my reading that I didn’t noticed the buzzing went noisier. I heard squeals from the girls, maybe they saw their oppas entering the classroom. Checking the time in my wrist watch, my eyes landed on my wedding ring. I smiled while looking at it remembering my wife who told me she’s going to pick me up later to eat dinner. I minimized the window and stood up from my seat before turning my head on my class.

Weird… why are they all looking at me?

Well because you are their Professor hello!?

My gaze landed on Wendy who has a big smile on her face pointing her puckered lips on the left side. What’s with the puckered lips?!

Beside her are the boys who were also grinning at me with big smile on their faces. Strange.

I looked at their faces one by one from Haechan, Mark, Jaehyun, Taeyong……

My eyes went wide when I saw the person sitting beside Taeyong with a big smile on her face wearing an SNU hoodie looking like a student. AMBER!!!

She winked cutely at me making me smile while shaking my head. She can just style her hair sideways like the youngsters do and she will be mistaken for a male student. I cleared my throat and faced my students who were curious who the guy their Professor is interacting with her eyes.

“Guys, sit down please. This will be short then I’m going to dismiss the class early..” they all sat in their seats obediently while looking at me with excited eyes, excited because of what I told them about early dismissal. Kids. Tsk tsk .

“Professor Jung, we’re going to miss you!”

“Me too, I’m going to miss you all primates~..” all of them squealed and hoots can be heard inside the class theater making me laugh softly. I shush them up and continued on my talk. “I want to thank you all 100 of you for being obedient and hardworking students. I hope for success in this coming Spring term and for those who are graduating, all the best for you guys. My good news is…” they all stared at me waiting for the good news I’m saying. “…Is all 100 of you passed my subject!” my students roared in joy, some are hugging each other and some crying! I don’t know why this student is crying!

“Yah! Guys shush I’m not yet done…” they all went quiet and I continued “Uummm… after this Fall term, I will not be going back this coming Spring term.”

I can see the shock from their eyes and that made me laugh inside. What?! Are they planning to enroll in my class again?

“Professor Jung! Are you leaving us?! Are you leaving SNU!??” they were all quiet all staring at me like they just heard the saddest news in town. Some are even holding their chest with a nervous look on their faces.

I chuckled and smiled to my students and answered the question. “Nope, I am not leaving SNU. Professor Jung decided to take a rest for the whole Spring term and maybe come back by Fall Term again if possible.”

“Then were are you going Professor? Do you have another expedition that we don’t know?”

Hahaha! These kids!

I shook my head and started to walk to the front smiling at them “Nope, I don’t have another expedition. It’s a personal matter that I need to do… but there will be a new Professor that will come to teach and she’s a History Professor too so watch out for her.” I saw Amber winked at me mischievously giving me an air kiss.

Amber… tsk tsk tsk not now you Llama!

I gritted my teeth on her widening my eyes telling her to stop being cute. Some of the girls saw her and they squealed like fangirls when Amber fixed her hair by brushing it back. Sorry girls….

“Professor! Is it a success?!” it was Wendy who yelled asking it that made all of the students turn their heads at her with curious looks, wondering what success she was saying. Aisssshhhhh!!!!

“Hahaha…. Wendy…” I smiled at her while gritting my teeth. You rascal!!

Don’t ruin my moment aiiissssh!

All eyes were fix on me, all curious eyes of my student especially when Amber leaned back on her chair crossing her arms with a loving smile on her face while watching me.

Gosh… this is so hard… I decided to announce this on my last class for the day just to save me on the gossip that will spread like wild fire. If I announced this in my last 4 classes today, it will surely reach the ears of all the students in this university and maybe, will be posted in the bulletin board.

Okay… this is it.

There was buzzing inside the classroom all of them wondering why Wendy said those words and why I look so nervous and fidgety. They are also wondering who is the handsome sit in beside Taeyong who is smiling at me now.

I looked at Amber and narrowed my eyes, mouthing to her “Why are you here?” feigning annoyance. I rolled my eyes on her playfully when she mouthed “You look so beautiful Professor Jung..”
