Chapter 25- Baekhyun's Text

[Flashback continues]

A heart monitor is slowly beeping in a quiet and calm room. A man could be seen sleeping on a bed with tubes in his arm and ventilator to help him breathe. This man was none other than Mina's dad. While her dad was resting on the bed, Mina was resting her head next to her dad on the side of the bed. It has been a couple days since he suffered from a heart attack, and he has not woken up since. In fact, it was likely that he wasn't going to wake up at all. 

Meanwhile, Chanyeol was outside the room and doing something that he has been trying for the past few days already. He was still trying to get in contact with Baekhyun. Chanyeol let out a sigh when Baekhyun failed to pick up and was lead to the voice mail. He was now starting to become upset. He then decided to head back to the room to see how Mina and her dad was doing. 

Mina lifted her head to look at Chanyeol when she heard someone entering the room. She was expecting to hear something from Chanyeol. However, Chanyeol shook his head in shame and Mina's eyes was filled with sadness. 

"You should rest and get something to eat. I'll watch him for now," Chanyeol said. 

"No, I'm fine. I don't feel like eating," Mina said. "You should go rest,"

"No. You haven't eaten for days. You need some food in your system in order to have strength Mina," Chanyeol said. 

"But I don't want to," Mina said as she turned to look at her dad. "Just in case something happens to him," 

Chanyeol did not say anything back. Who could blame her? She wanted to stay by her dad's side since... The doctor did say to prepare her last words. Her dad was just now hanging on for life, or waiting to let go any time soon. 

Because Mina didn't want to leave her dad's side, Chanyeol decided to grab some food for her to eat instead. He arrived back at the hospital and entered the room with a lunch bag. 

He set a steel bowl with food in front of Mina and handed her chopsticks and a spoon. Instead of digging in, Mina sat still on the couch and stared at the food. 

"My mom makes this for me whenever I'm sick. It's porridge with chicken, and it usually fulls me whenever I eat it. Although I must warn that it might not be as good because I made it," Chanyeol nervously chuckled. 

Mina continued to stare at the food that Chanyeol cooked, and it wasn't sure what she was thinking. After waiting for a couple more seconds, Chanyeol decided that he couldn't wait anymore. He took a seat next to Mina on the couch and grabbed the spoon from her hand. 

"Aigoo. Are you a little kid? Must I feed you too?" Chanyeol joked in order to brighten the mood.

He took a scoop of the porridge with chicken, and blew on it to cool it down. After giving it a couple blows, he then fed it to Mina in which she did eat it. 

"How is it?" Chanyeol asked with his eyes wide open. 

"It's good," Mina said as she gently chew on the food. 

"Really?" Chanyeol asked as he took a bite himself with the same spoon. "Wow, you are right. It's fantastic,"

Chanyeol turned his attention back to Mina and saw her staring at him. Did she think he was weird? However, that was not anywhere close to what Mina was thinking. She was thankful for him and all that he has done so far. 

"Oh sorry. I forgot it was for you," Chanyeol said as he took another scoop to feed Mina. 

"Forget it. I can do it myself," Mina playfully groaned as she took the spoon from Chanyeol and fed herself. 

Chanyeol smiled when he saw that Mina was starting to lighten up a bit. She deserved to be happy even if it was just only for a slight second. 

When Mina was done eating, she went to use the restroom while Chanyeol stayed to watch her dad. She began to walk back to the room after washing her hands and the bowls that was used for the food. While she was walking, she couldn't help but think about something that was bothering her. She took out her phone to look at it, and saw that she had no calls or text. Why was Baekhyun not picking up or answering back? What happened to him? 

Mina then decided to call Baekhyun once again in hopes that he would pick up this time. She waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. But just like before, he did not pick up. Were they even in a relationship anymore? She decided to continue heading to her dad's room and worry about this later. 

Just as she was moments away from entering her dad's room, her phone vibrated. Mina quickly looked at her phone to see who it was, and saw that it was a text from Baekhyun! 

"Hi honey. I miss you a lot. Sorry for not talking to you as much lately. I've been so so so busy! But, hopefully you can forgive me and meet up with me tonight! I have some exciting news for you and Chanyeol! So let's meet up at the cafe we usually go to at 8. Well, I have to go now so see you later! Be warm and don't catch a cold," the text from Baekhyun said. 

Instead of smiling like she usually does when she gets a text from her boyfriend, Mina scoffed instead. That was all he had to say? He didn't ask her how she was doing? How her dad was doing?

Anger began to build in Mina as she thought about this. All Baekhyun cared about was himself?! She had enough. Not only did Baekhyun not answer their calls and text for the last few days, but he brushed everything off and didn't even ask about her dad's condition. 

Mina was sitting on the couch while still thinking about Baekhyun's ignorant text. Chanyeol on the other hand was checking up on her dad to make sure he was okay and warm. He then turned his attention back to Mina, and saw that she was acting different than usual.

"Is something wrong?" Chanyeol asked as he approached her.

Mina snapped out from her thought and looked up at Chanyeol. 

"N-no. It's nothing," Mina stuttered. 

"Hmmm, are you sure?" 

"Yea-yeah. I'm just a little tired,"

Chanyeol nodded his head since it looked like she was telling the truth, and it went silent between the two. Suddenly...

"Baekhyun texted me," Mina suddenly said to break the silence. 

Chanyeol stared at Mina in shock. Baekhyun finally texted back? What did he say?! But wait, why doesn't she look happy about it? 

"What did he say?" Chanyeol slowly asked. 

"To meet him at the cafe at 8. He has something exciting to tell us," Mina said with no emotions on her face.

"That's all?" Chanyeol asked. "Nothing more?"

"Yeah. That's all," Mina shortly replied. 

"Well, you should go and see him since you haven't seen him for a while. I'll stay behind to watch your dad," Chanyeol said. 

"No, it's fine. I'm still deciding if I even want to go," Mina suddenly said. 

"What? Mina, you want to see him don't you?" Chanyeol asked. 

"What's the point if I do? My dad is hanging on for his life while he's just going to talk about himself?" Mina asked with anger slightly building in her. 

Chanyeol was taken aback by how angry and upset Mina was starting to become. He has never seen her feel and act this way towards Baekhyun. 

"Mina. I apologize for Baekhyun's actions right now," Chanyeol sincerely said as he let out a breath. "He's stupid. Blind. Full of himself. I know. But that's just how he is. Just go meet him for today and enjoy your time with him. You can't stress too much about anything. I'll deal with him when I see him since I'm his bestfriend,"

No matter how foolish and dumb his bestfriend was acting, Chanyeol still stood up for him. He really believed Baekhyun was a good guy and cared for Mina. He just needed some sense knocked back into him before he realizes things. Meanwhile, Mina stayed still as she thought about what Chanyeol said. It wasn't sure how she was feeling or what she was thinking.
