Universes: Boss and Secretary
Half Past Eleven [MINOR REVISIONS]
Double update, yay! Part 4 of Universes and it's ChanDong. This could be considered Chanwoo x Donghyuk x Junhwe too. hehe
Chanwoo is often told he’s so lucky to have a boss like Donghyukie.
More specifically, he’s told he’s lucky to be the secretary to Kim Donghyuk - heir and lead designer for the multi-million worth, YG clothing line. Also, Kim Donghyuk is drop-dead gorgeous, a very generous charity donator, and one of the top 3 executives voted as the best boss by employees for 3 consecutive years.
“Must be a blast working for him”, they say. “I’d do anything to trade places with you”, they add. Ah, if only they knew.
It’s indeed a blast working for Donghyukie because Chanwoo gets to have almost the same perks: free 4-star hotel accommodations, free first-class airline tickets, high-class food, and a very advantageous work network. If Chanwoo’s an outsider, he would have wished he trade places with himself too.
But they say nothing is perfect right?
Hardly anyone knows and sees, but Donghyukie is also a workhalic, a pabo-hyung who’s too kind for his own good, and a beloved friend who’s too selfless to think of others first before himself. If there’s anyone who can push the limits of the meaning of “good” to the point that it can be harmful already, it’s Donghyukie.
And like the dozens and dozens of times he sees Donghyuk slumped on his desk with stacks of design sketches and reports to sign, Chanwoo can only fold his arms on his chest and heave a deep sigh of helplessness.
Look, his position might be the envy of many, but it also entails being constantly worried for his boss slash friend’s well-being. Donghyukie didn’t go home again, those design sketches are for the entourage of Hanbin’s wedding - which Donghyuk had volunteered to do, and the reports are supposed to be on Chanwoo’s desk. Did Donghyuk take them because he said he plans to take a leave off to visit his parents?
Chanwoo can literally feel his stress levels increase. Ah, seriously. Should he drag Donghyuk away from his desk next time? Calling security might be too much but at this point, he might consider it. And what are the other employees doing last night? Why didn’t they contact him about Donghyuk working over the night again?
An overly familiar call ringtone cuts in his thoughts. Chanwoo sees Donghyuk’s phone light up beside the stack of reports. Donghyuk goes into a stupor but Chanwoo is already by his side, taking the phone.
“What…? Chanu-ya? Who is…?”
“It’s alright Donghyukie. I got it. Go back to sleep.”
Donghyuk blinks at him a few times and Chanwoo flashes an assuring grin. He pats his back softly for added effect. His boss grins back and goes back to sleep.
As for the call, his grin turns into a small frown because it’s the usual annoyance once again. He doesn’t know if it’s some sort of superpower, or maybe a disadvantage of the power of love, but the caller manages to always, always call Donghyuk whenever he needs to be left undisturbed.
“Babe, it’s me. Are you free later --”
“June.”
“What the. Chanwoo? Where’s Donghyuk-ah?”
“He’s busy and won’t be able to talk to you for the rest of the day. Sorry.”
“Woah there. We may be childhood friends but I’m still Donghyuk’s --”
“And I’m Donghyukie’s one and only secretary. He isn’t free for the whole day, so please forgive us, dear sir. Bye-bye.”
Click.
Chanwoo turns the phone off for good measure. Then his own phone rings so he sighs and takes it out of his pocket. As expected, it’s the boss’ fiance.
“Chanu! Just answer me, did Donghyuk overwork himself again?”
As expected again, Junhwe picks up fast.
“Yes.”
“You should have told me that from the start. Fine, I won’t disturb him today.”
“You’re so considerate June-ya.”
“I don’t feel like that’s really a compliment so I won’t thank you.”
Chanwoo snorts. “I don’t need your thanks too.”
Junhwe retorts from the other line but Chanwoo’s attention is diverted when Donghyuk moves in his sleep, mumbling something under his breath. He must be so very tired since he’s sleep-talking now.
And Chanwoo can only sigh again because Donghyuk is mumbling happily for a date with Junhwe in the night.
“June-ya, you know what? Why don’t you go here and help me sort out your fiance’s work and sched? That way you two can have a date tonight.”
There’s a moment of silence from the other line until Junhwe snickers. Chanwoo hears him disengage for a bit to tell his driver to go to Donghyuk’s office.
“Like I said, you should have told me from the start. Thanks Chanu. I’m happy you’re Donghyuk’s secretary.”
“I know right?” Chanwoo smirks and gently pats Donghyuk’s shoulder when he blinks his eyes in a sleepy-daze. “What would our Donghyuk do without me?”
“...Now that’s too far. Who told you to --
“See you June-ya.”
Click.
“Hmm?” Donghyuk really wakes up this time. “Were you talking to June?”
“Yes. I’ve scheduled for your date with him tonight, and arranged some help with work so you’ll be able to go on time.”
“Wow.” His boss blinks then smiles widely. “Thank you! You’re really the best Chanu. What could I do without you?”
Chanwoo smirks inwardly. He should have recorded that and let Junhwe hear later. Well, he could be stressed with worry and be constantly on clash with Goo Junhwe, but the most important thing is he will always be essential to Kim Donghyuk’s life, both as a secretary and as a dear friend.
That would cancel out the rest of the “disadvantages” of being Donghyuk’s secretary, and will justify the notion that yes, he’s lucky to have a boss who appreciates him very much. Everyone may envy him but he won’t give up his spot. Ever.
“How about you sleep more in your nap room boss?” he suggests. His boss blinks sleepily then nods at him. Chanwoo smiles and rubs Donghyuk’s back in comfort.
“Please leave everything to me.”
