Book 1: Impossible? It's Possible!

Chapter 6: Victim

Hankyung was having a fitful, restless sleep.

It was a dark, stormy night. The wind was outside was howling, making the tree branches sway vigorously and hit the bedroom window now and then. The rain was pounding heavily on every surface it could land on. The bedroom was illuminated occasionally by a lightning bolt flashing through the sky. Thunder rumbled and grumbled with the dark clouds rolling over the city.

If it weren’t for the day’s schedules that had totally wiped Hankyung out, all the noise from the storm would have made it impossible for him to sleep at all.

Creak.

The lightly sleeping Hankyung was awoken right away.

Though he did not open his eyes, his instincts were on high alert. He could sense another presence in the bedroom with him.

Could it be a thief? A murderer?A paparazzi? A crazy fan? A stalker? A ghost? A demon?

The storm and darkness were driving his imagination into an overdrive and all the terrifying possibilities ran wild in his mind. Hankyung wasn’t exactly sure with the specifics; all he knew was that there was a nefarious being and it was spreading an evil aura in his bedroom.

To say that Hankyung was downright scared is an understatement.

Hankyung opened his eyes slightly and his insides turned to ice when he saw the being's tall, dark shadow on the floor, slowly creeping towards him.

The poor, terrified man shut his eyes again. He tried to will it away with his mind.

But then, he felt a gush of warm air -a breath- on his cheek and his eyes snapped open. And he looked right into another pair of eyes that were glinting with the promises of evil acts.

Hankyung sat bolt upright and let out a scream that could win an award for a horror movie.

“AAARRRGGGGGHHHHHH-!!”

Sadly, the potential award was taken away by Hankyung’s own pillow when it smacked him hard right across the face, cutting off that fudge awesome scream and knocking Hankyung down backwards with its force.

“Ouch!” Hankyung yelped as he hit his head on the headboard of his bed.

“Who knew this idiotic hyung could also be such a drama queen,” the evil being creeping around in his room muttered disdainfully.

Annoyed as he was, Hankyung couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.Sure, he had been right about it being an evil presence, but at least it was only the demon that he had been harboring in his home for some time now.

It was better to deal with the kind of evil that he was familiar with, rather than the unfamiliar.

“Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Hankyung demanded, squinting into the dark and trying to make out the lanky figure of the evil maknae.

“Well, not really, but I wouldn’t say that it’s not a welcome bonus.”

“What do you want, Kyuhyun? Why are you creeping around in my bedroom?” Hankyung asked exasperatedly.

Still wincing from the pillow smack and the headboard hit, Hankyung d blindly for the lamp on his bedside table. The light flickered on and Hankyung let out a loud groan when he saw the expression on Kyuhyun’s face. He would rather have taken any of his previous wild guesses on what was creeping around in his room. Heck, he would have taken all of those together, even! Anything other than this!

The expression on the maknae's face clearly told Hankyung something-

Kyuhyun wanted something. Again.

The evil maknae’s weird cravings had started and his unfortunate victim hyung has lately been going around everywhere, at any time, trying to find whatever weird demand Kyuhyun had.

Kyuhyun sat on the edge of Hanykung’s bed and gave the older man a very sweet smile.

It gave Hankyung goosebumps and he shuddered obviously. His blanket had been lying somewhere over his knees and he now drew it up to his chest, as though hoping it would give him some protection from the evil maknae and whatever it is that he wanted from him again.

“How much do you love me, hyung?” Kyuhyun asked cutely, pouting and giving Hankyung another dose of puppy-dog eyes.

Hankyung’s eyes narrowed.

“Much less than if you’d asked me that question at a decent hour of the day, rather than now when it’s-“ Hankyung glanced at his alarm clock and let out another groan. “2:45 am?! Seriously, Kyuhyun?!”

“Why does the time matter? There are 24-hour convenience stores, aren’t there?” the maknae shrugged easily.

“If you’re thinking I’m going to do another midnight run for your cravings, think again!” Hankyung growled. “There is no way I am going out in that!”

Hankyung pointed at the window, where the storm was raging outside. Another round of lightning and thunder came, as though trying to prove Hankyung’s point.

As if the evil maknae would even care about lightning and thunder.

“But it’s an emergency, hyung!” Kyuhyun exclaimed. “We’re out of peanut butter!”

It was night for horror movies, apparently, because the horrified look on Kyuhyun’s face (at thought of being out of peanut butter) would also fit well into one.

Hankyung facepalmed.

“How is being out of peanut butter counted as an ‘emergency’?! Besides, we wouldn’t even be out of it if you didn’t eat it so much! What, that’s already the fifth jar you’ve finished in three days, isn’t it?”

“We’re out of peanut butter, hyung! Of course that’s an emergency! You know I can’t eat my cucumbers without peanut butter!”

Hankyung made a disgusted face.

That was perhaps the weirdest combination of food cravings that Kyuhyun had acquired recently.

And to think that Hankyung still remembered very well how, in the past, Leeteuk or Ryeowook would have to wrestle with the maknae just to make him "eat his veggies". And yet now, Hankyung rarely see Kyuhyun without a plate of his precious cucumbers. And, of course, that bowl of gooey peanut butter where Kyuhyun dips the damned vegetable.

Gross.

To make things even worse for Hankyung, Kyuhyun wouldn’t accept cucumbers unless they were sliced to the exactly right thickness.

And guess who was the “lucky” person who had to slice them to perfection, else he gets pelted back with the rejected slices, which were (according to Kyuhyun) a “shame to the name of cucumber-ness”?

And if you take more than one guess and didn’t figure out right away that it’s Hankyung, both Kyuhyun and Hankyung (who was increasingly becoming bad-tempered because of having to deal everyday with the evil maknae on his own) would call you an idiot.

“Wait until morning!” Hankyung said now. Then, he glanced at the window again. “Better yet, wait until the storm lets up!” he added hastily, because judging from how things were going outside, morning would probably arrive first before the storm ends.

“But, hyunggggg~” Kyuhyun whine and pouted.

“No,” was still Hankyung’s firm reply.

Kyuhyun let out a dramatic sigh. He got up from Hankyung’s bed and started to walk away.

“Sorry, baby,” Kyuhyun said sadly, patting his stomach, where he now had a slight baby bump. “It looks like you’re not going to get any cucumber and peanut butter now. There, there. I know you’re upset, but you’re just going to have to it up in there and undergo such a horrible, terrible suffering that no kid should go through, and-“

“Alright, alright!”

Kyuhyun smirked his evil maknae smirk in triumph. Playing the “baby card” always works well on Hankyung.

Hankyung’s rubber boots sloshed the water on the sidewalk as he stamped his way back home, gritting his teeth and clutching the goddamn jar of peanut butter in his hand.

With the storm so bad and the roads wet and dangerously slippery, Hankyung thought he would stand a better chance of making through the journey alive if he didn’t take his car. So, here he was now, shivering and still soaked, even with shirt, sweater, jacket, coat, and raincoat that he had put on before going off to the store. Lightning and thunder made their appearance in the dark sky overhead now and then.

All Hankyung wanted was to go back to his warm and dry bed and snuggle under his blanket.

But then, he remembered that he would still have to slice cucumbers to perfection when he gets back.
