Book 2: The (Crazy) Baby Years

Chapter 7: Minion

During the first months of Minhyun’s life, he of course got bigger, got smarter, became more aware of his surroundings, and reached the expected baby milestones (which made his mother both proud and quite emotional that his baby was growing up too fast).

However, those weren’t exactly the only developments that Minhyun gained.

He also acquired certain… tendencies that weren’t exactly typical in a baby. Or in a person in general, to be honest.

Minhyun also gained evil tendencies that the world, most fortunately, didn’t quite often see. In fact, some of the rare cases of such evil were Shim Changmin and Cho Kyuhyun. Who both just so happened to have produced/parented Minhyun. Which is probably why Minhyun got the evil tendencies in the first place.

One would think that since Kyuhyun was Minhyun’s mother (“Dammit, author! I’m his father!” Kyuhyun would like to insist as usual and even throw a heavy object at the author’s head), he would be the first to notice these tendencies. But no, it wasn’t him. Well, yeah, Kyuhyun technically did notice them, but seeing as he was also evil himself, he didn’t really think there was anything odd or even wrong with Minhyun’s tendencies. In fact, the evil maknae of course thought that the evil tendencies in Minhyun were expected and something to be proud of and motherly gush about.

No, the first person to really notice the evil tendencies, and rightfully be alarmed and terrified out of his wits about them, was Hankyung.

As Kyuhyun’s favorite/number 1 choice of servant person to call on for help (which really isn’t a good thing, to be honest), Hankyung also became a usual babysitter for Minhyun.

And during a particularly extended visiting/babysitting period, he really realized and saw firsthand evidence that Minhyun had undoubtedly inherited his parents’ evilness and, worse, was already manifesting this evilness so early in his life.

“Hyung! Come babysit Minhyun!”

Hankyung one day answered Kyuhyun’s call to immediately hear the evil maknae oh-so-nicely bark this order at him.

“What? But, Kyu! My schedule’s really full right now!”

“It’s only for a week,” the maknae offhandedly said from the other end of the line.

“A week?! I just told you that my schedule’s full!” Hankyung sputtered out.

Hankyung would think that, as a former idol, Kyuhyun would know how grueling schedules can be! And that a week off during such a busy period would be next to impossible!

But then, Hankyung realized that Kyuhyun probably hadn’t forgotten. It’s just that the evil maknae didn’t really care about it. Even if it was next to impossible, he still expected Hankyung to do it, just because he “asked” him to.

The evil maknae was just so “considerate” that way.

“Come on, hyung!” Kyuhyun whined at him from the other end of the line.

“Where will you be for a week, anyway?” Hankyung demanded, his eyebrows furrowing in concern. Well, actually, he was greatly worried about what the maknae would be up to during such as time period. A week was more than enough time for Kyuhyun to establish his dominion over the whole world, after all.

“I’m going to Europe. The mayor of the town’s attending some kind of business thing there. I’m coming along to present the improvements I’ve made to the town and hopefully get more investors so that we can have funds and I can do more improvements.”

Hankyung blanched at the thought of the “improvements” that Kyuhyun has done to the town. And shuddered that Kyuhyun was about to do more of them. But before the Chinese man could voice his concerns, Kyuhyun started talking again.

“Anyway, it’ll all be conferences and meetings and stuff, so I can’t really take Minhyun with me… So, will you watch Minhyun or not? Can your conscience handle leaving Minhyun alone by himself for a week?” Of course, Kyuhyun would never do that to his precious Minhyun, but hey, whatever threat worked on his hyung, right?

“Why don’t you ask Xiari to watch him?” Hankyung pointed out the practical choice to Kyuhyun. After all, Xiari just lived across Kyuhyun’s apartment. She was readily more available. And it’s not like Xiari didn’t like spending time with Minhyun; as an ELF, Xiari treated Minhyun with the adoration, and even reverence, that ELF’s little prince rightfully deserved.

“Xiari has her own kid. I don’t want to ask her to take care of another one for a whole week.”

“So, you’ll just make me forget about my own schedules instead?”

“Okay. I’ll just tell Minhyun that his Uncle Hannie doesn’t want to spend time with him.”

“What?! No! Don’t tell him that!” Hankyung yelped in panic. Yeah, never mind that Minhyun was too young to understand Kyuhyun even if the evil maknae indeed told him that. On no account would Hankyung like those words to ever be said. He loved his nephew and loved spending time with him as well!

“Then say that you’ll babysit him.”

“Argh!” Hankyung groaned loudly. Kyuhyun was so low to blackmail him like this! Low, but not really unexpected from him. This is the evil maknae we’re talking about, after all. “Fine! Fine, I’ll babysit him!”

“Great!” Kyuhyun chirped happily. “Be here bright and early tomorrow, okay, hyung?”

“WHAT?! You already need me there tomorrow?!” Hankyung shouted in panic and incredulity. Talk about last minute!

“Thanks, hyung!” was all that Hankyung heard from Kyuhyun before the evil maknae suddenly just ended the call. And his tone even told Hankyung that Kyuhyun had been smirking evilly when he said it!

“What did I ever do to deserve being stuck with such a demon?” Hankyung groaned to no one in particular.

The sun hadn’t even risen the next day when Hankyung started the long drive to the small town. It was still so early, and Hankyung didn’t get enough sleep! And we all know that being sleep-deprived negated Hankyung’s kind soul!

So, the Chinese man grumbled and complained under his breath about a certain devil during the whole drive.

It didn’t help that he had a hellacious time last night, trying to change and cancel schedules at the last minute. His manager wanted to kill Hankyung, and Hankyung couldn’t even blame the man. The manager had of course been pissed and told Hankyung that he can’t just take a week off so suddenly, but once the man heard that Hankyung had to look after Minhyun, the man eventually relented and helped Hankyung clear his week.

Yeah, Hankyung eventually came clean to his manager about Kyuhyun’s situation. Hankyung, channeling his inner Leeteuk, greatly worried and fretted about Kyuhyun, and he took as many trips as possible to the town when he had free time. The manager eventually demanded to know what was going on. He had realized that Hankyung was taking trips and wanted to know where his idol was going and, more importantly, to whom. But for all the many scenarios that the manager imagined (in fact, the man’s top suspicion had been that Hankyung was secretly going to South Korea and seeing a certain diva ex of his), he totally didn’t expect the truth that Hankyung told him about Kyuhyun… and Minhyun.

The manager was, of course, stunned and gobsmacked that Kyuhyun had somehow become pregnant and had a son. The man also had a heart attack when he realized that his idol knew all about this and was the one who was helping Kyuhyun hide away from the world. But mostly, the manager was just downright alarmed that Kyuhyun was the primary caregiver of a helpless baby. The man had only been Hankyung’s manager after Hankyung left Super Junior and returned to China, so he hadn’t really known Kyuhyun personally. But Kyuhyun’s evil reputation preceded itself, and as any normal human being, the manager was worried about the evil maknae taking care of a baby.

“Try to bring some of your goodness into your nephew this week, will you?” was the last thing that the manager said to Hankyung late last night after they had finally cleared Hankyung’s schedule. Changing and cancelling appearances and appointments was hell, but the manager thought that the week would be a good opportunity for Hankyung to influence Minhyun to be good, or at the very least, serve as some counterbalance to Kyuhyun’s evilness.

But as Hankyung would witness that week, it was already too late to steer Minhyun away from any evilness. In fact, it was probably really inevitable that Minhyun would be evil.

That he would be Kyuhyun’s Little Evil Minion.

“If something bad happens to my dumpling, I will chop up your body, burn the pieces, grind the ash finely, and feed the powder to sharks. Which stage you die doesn’t really matter to me as long as you die at some point, and let me assure you that you really will die if something happens to Minhyun,” Kyuhyun told Hankyung in a deadpan voice as the maknae stood outside the car that was waiting to take him to the airport.
