A/N: Here’s the next chapter! Quite a long one, too. I spent a day writing this. O.o I don’t think I’ve written an update this long since the time that I was writing “A Chance to Change the Past.” I’m a bit out of practice with super long chapters.

I hope you guys like it?

Book 4: Blast from the Past

Chapter 3: Meeting

Hankyung felt like he was currently living a nightmare.

This had to be some kind of nightmare. A living nightmare! Or else how could it have been possible that Shim Changmin was suddenly standing in front of Hankyung? (Hankyung was trying to ignore the voice in his head that was shouting that it was his fault for making the mistake of bringing Minhyun to the TV network building in the first place). Even worse, Minhyun was standing between the two men, now looking back and forth Hankyung and Changmin curiously.

And to add even more to the “totally messed up” aspect of the scenario, Changmin didn’t even know that the little boy that was only a couple of feet away from him right now was actually his son.

This was definitely one messed up scene.

So messed up that Hankyung was starting to feel a bit faint, really.

“So, this is your uncle, Minhyun,” Changmin now said to Minhyun, seeing as Hankyung was acting odd and not saying anything but only standing there and staring at Changmin with disbelief and his mouth open. The DBSK maknae focused his attention on the little boy instead. “Hankyung hyung is your uncle?”

“You two know each other?” Minhyun said curiously, still looking back and forth Hankyung and Changmin. His uncle seemed to be in a weird kind of stupor, so Minhyun tugged on one of Hankyung’s arms to get his uncle’s attention. “Uncle Hannie, you know this man?” he asked, pointing a finger at Changmin.

“I—uh—we—I—uhhhh…” Right now, gibberish was already the best thing that Hankyung could produce.

Minhyun gave his uncle a weirded out look. His uncle was acting funny, in the little boy’s opinion. What’s going on with his uncle?

“You know my uncle, mister?” Minhyun asked Changmin instead. Maybe he could get answers from the other man, seeing as his uncle didn’t seem to be functioning properly right now.

Changmin nodded. “Yeah, your uncle and I worked together when he lived back in Korea years before. We were in the same entertainment company.”

Minhyun’s eyes widened in surprise. “You didn’t tell me you were also an artist when you were in Korea, Uncle Hannie!” he frowned a bit at Hankyung. Sure, he knew that his uncle was an artist and that Hankyung had lived in Korea before. But the little boy definitely didn’t know that his uncle also worked as an artist when he was in Korea! It seemed like the little boy was learning something totally new about his dear uncle…

Minhyun’s frown suddenly deepened. “Hang on… If you were an artist in Korea, how were you able to meet my umma there, Uncle Hannie?”

Hankyung’s eyes bulged out at Minhyun’s question, but he still couldn’t formulate a coherent response.

Changmin was also looking curious. It seemed that even though Hankyung was “Uncle Hannie” to Minhyun, the Chinese man wasn’t truly the little boy’s uncle. Not biologically, at least. Which would make sense since Hankyung was Chinese and Minhyun had told Changmin that he was Korean. If Hankyung had only met Minhyun’s mother in Korea, then that means that Hankyung wasn’t really related to Minhyun’s mother and to Minhyun, right?

The DBSK maknae opened his mouth to ask for a clarification on this matter, but Hankyung managed to shake himself from the frozen state of unpleasant shock that he had been in.

Hankyung forced himself to do something—anything!—because they were sailing into even more dangerous waters. It was already bad enough that Minhyun had met Changmin. Talking about Minhyun’s mother right in front of Changmin would make the scenario so much worse.

“M-Minhyunnie,” Hankyung stuttered out as he placed his hands on Minhyun’s shoulders and started to firmly lead the little boy down the corridor, away from Changmin. “We—we need to go now. You know that Uncle Hannie has a—a, uhm, reshoot to do…”

“Huh? We’re going already?” Minhyun questioned. His uncle was acting so strange right now! Even though Minhyun was a little evil genius, he couldn’t make heads or tails of what was going on.

Changmin, too, was frowning now. “Hankyung hyung, I—”

But Hankyung cut across him. “It was great seeing you again, Changmin-ah—” the forced smile on Hankyung’s face told both Minhyun and Changmin that Hankyung didn’t really find seeing Changmin again as something “great,” though— “but we have to go. I have a schedule… Erm, you know how busy an idol’s life is … And, uh…”

“No, Uncle Hannie!” Hankyung’s rambling was now interrupted by his nephew. Minhyun freed himself from uncle’s hands and moved back closer to Changmin again. “We can’t go yet!” the little boy insisted. “He helped me become unlost! We gotta help him be unlost, too!”

Minhyun’s expression would show anyone that could see it that the little boy was quite determined on helping the man—Changmin, his uncle said his name was—find the place that he was supposed to be at.

Hankyung didn’t really see the expression on his nephew’s face, though.

After seeing Minhyun moved back closer to Changmin, Hankyung’s vision was suddenly flooded with images instead. Hypothetical images. Unfortunately possible and highly likely to happen images. And each image was a different way of Kyuhyun killing him. With weapons… Burned at stake… Pushed off a cliff… Suffocating him with a pillow over his head at night… Putting deadly poison into his drink… Throwing him to rabid fangirls… Kyuhyun could be quite creative when seeking vengeance, and Hankyung knew that the possibilities of horrible death at the hands of the maknae were endless.

Changmin was now smiling down at Minhyun. “It’s okay, Minhyunnie. If your uncle’s already late, you guys should go. I’ll find the interview room on my own.”

But Minhyun shook his head vehemently, his floppy hair also shaking with the movement and looking totally adorable. “No. We’ll help you.”

Then, Minhyun’s stomach gave another loud grumble. Apparently, it wasn’t satisfied with the biscuits. “And you have more snacks,” the little boy added sheepishly to Changmin.

The DBSK maknae laughed. “So that’s really why you want to stick with me,” he teased Minhyun, ruffling the kid’s hair gently. “Not to help me, but for the food!”

Minhyun couldn’t even deny it and just grinned.

Meanwhile, Hankyung had felt the air leave his lungs again when he head Changmin call Minhyun as “Minhyunnie” so naturally. As if Changmin had always been meant to have a close relationship with the little boy and therefore call him as “Minhyunnie” too. And admittedly, as Minhyun’s father, Changmin really should have been meant to be close to the boy. But Hankyung knew that Kyuhyun would not be happy about Minhyun and Changmin so easily and so naturally becoming close right away.

And now, Hankyung had to watch Minhyun and Changmin interacting so naturally and so sweetly, even. Seeing the DBSK maknae fondly ruffle the boy’s hair really cut off the flow of oxygen supply to Hankyung’s brain and to his heart.

And he lost consciousness.

Changmin and Minhyun both watched with wide eyes, the expressions of shock on their faces so similar, as the Chinese man fell and hit the corridor’s floor with a loud thud.

“Is he dead?” Minhyun asked.

Upon Hankyung’s fainting spree, Changmin and Minhyun had rushed to the unconscious man’s body. Changmin then spent a few moments lightly tapping Hankyung’s face and checking his pulse. Minhyun’s question now made the DBSK maknae chuckle.

Well, not really the question itself, but more of Minhyun’s tone.

The little boy just sounded curious. There’s not really a hint of worry for his uncle there. Just curious as if he was asking if maybe it had stopped raining or if it was already recess time at school. In fact, the tone had an almost hopeful edge to it, as if Minhyun would find Hankyung being dead to be an interesting happening. As the evil maknae of DBSK, Changmin couldn’t help but feel that Minhyun definitely has his priorities right!

Before Changmin could respond to Minhyun’s inquiry, though, there was a shout of “Changminnie!” from behind them.

Both the man and the boy turned around, and Changmin recognized the newcomers at once. His Yunho hyung and Jaejoong hyung were hurrying toward them, both looking quite stressed out.

“There you are!” Jaejoong said exasperatedly. “The interview’s already 30 minutes behind schedule because you couldn’t be found! Now, come on, or—” Jaejoong’s sentence wasn’t finished as the DBSK eldest suddenly noticed the other man on lying on the floor. “What on earth?!”

“Is that Hankyung?!” Yunho now asked in a disbelieving voice. He walked closer to the body and saw that it was indeed the Chinese man that had been a part of their agency many years previously. Yunho looked at Changmin with stern eyes. “What did you do to him, Changmin-ah?” Of course Yunho’s suspicions were immediately on Changmin. After experiencing too many “unfortunate incidents” due to Changmin, Yunho wouldn’t put anything pass their evil maknae anymore.

Changmin rolled his eyes as he stood up from his crouch beside Hankyung’s body. “I didn’t do anything to him!” he said defensively. Why was it always him?! Well, yeah, usually, Changmin was really the one at fault when pranks and tricks occur, but still! His hyung should give him more credit!

“Is he dead?” Minhyun asked again, still observing his uncle and not really paying much attention to the two newcomers. “Can we maybe start with a dissection?”

Yep, Minhyun sure was a little evil minion alright.

Yunho’s and Jaejoong’s eyes widened at those words. Changmin, starting to be used to Minhyun’s evil tendencies now and sharing these evil tendencies as well (since he contributed to Minhyun being evil, not that Changmin was aware of that), just took it in stride and laughed.

“Who is this?” Yunho asked as he eyed Minhyun warily. Warily because you don’t typically get such a young kid wanting to dissect a human body, right?

“He’s Minhyun. Apparently, he’s Hankyung hyung’s nephew or something. Minhyunnie, these are my hyungs, Yunho and Jaejoong. They’re a part of my band,” Changmin made the necessary introductions.

“Dissection?” was all that Minhyun said again. Yes, the little boy’s mind could be a little one-tracked when it comes to doing evil things.

“Nope. Sorry, Minhyunnie, but your uncle’s still alive,” Changmin chuckled.

Minhyun pouted in disappointment. “Awww…”

Yunho and Jaejoong just decided to ignore the fact that Hankyung’s nephew was quite interested in the man’s dissection. There were more urgent matters to address!

“We’re late for the interview,” Jaejoong told Changmin again.

“But we can’t just leave him here,” Yunho added, gesturing at Hankyung’s body. The kindly leader would be worried if he had seen any person fainted in a corridor. And this wasn’t just some person but a man that they used to work with. Before Hankyung left Super Junior and SM, after all, he had always gotten along well with DBSK.

It seemed that the flow of new people arriving hadn’t stop yet, though, because before Changmin and Jaejoong could offer suggestions on what to do with Hankyung’s body, the Super Junior leader himself came running toward them.

“Where have you guys been?!” Leeteuk demanded as he got near the group. “The interview’s being delayed, and—Hankyung??!” The Super Junior leader stopped his rant and let out an exclamation of complete surprise when he noticed that his former member was there… unconscious and on the floor.

“What happened to him?!” Leeteuk wanted clear answers right away as he knelt beside Hankyung and tried to check on him. Sure, he hadn’t seen Hankyung in so many years after the man left their band, but he was still someone that used to be under Leeteuk’s care and guidance. And someone that Leeteuk still cared about despite the many of years of having no contact with him. Of course Leeteuk’s mother hen tendencies were kicking in right now!

“I met him when I was helping his nephew, and he suddenly just fainted in front of us,” Changmin replied.

Leeteuk glanced at Minhyun when Changmin waved a hand at the little boy to indicate Hankyung’s nephew. Then, the Super Junior suddenly remembered who he was talking.

“You again!” Leeteuk hissed at Changmin. “Now, you make my former member faint, too? Haven’t you already caused Super Junior enough damage?”

Yunho and Jaejoong both frowned at Leeteuk. They didn’t appreciate the Super Junior leader talking to their precious baby Minnie like that!

Changmin just sighed, though. Over the past years, he had gotten used to Leeteuk’s hostility toward him. And, personally, Changmin couldn’t help but feel that he did deserve that hostility. The DBSK maknae had always thought (and feared and hurt) that he was really the one that made the Super Junior maknae go away, after all…

Suddenly, they heard voices from the corridor before them. It seemed that people were starting to come their way.

“We can’t let other people see this!” Yunho said right away, looking at Hankyung’s body worriedly. What a scandal it would be if the media got wind of this. A former SM idol losing consciousness while at the presence of other SM idols… The press and the fans would have a field day!

“We have to get him out of here,” Leeteuk said in an urgent tone, distracted from being irritable with Changmin. The Super Junior leader started pull up the upper half of Hankyung’s body. He glared a bit when Changmin went forward to help and seized Hankyung’s legs.

Yunho quickly looked around and saw a door to their right. He went to it and checked inside. “Over here!” he waved at the others to follow him.

Leeteuk and Changmin carried the still unconscious Hankyung, and Jaejoong grabbed Minhyun along with him. They followed Yunho into what seemed to be an empty conference room. There was a long table with leather chairs around it. Leeteuk and Changmin settled Hankyung on the nearest chair.

“We need to wake him up,” Jaejoong told the others as he eyed Hankyung worriedly after he had closed the room’s door behind him.

“No, duh,” Changmin scoffed, rolling his eyes at his hyung. Really! Talk about stating obvious!

Jaejoong didn’t look like he appreciated his maknae’s show of attitude, but he was too used to it by now to give too much of a fuss. Minhyun, however, grinned at Changmin. The little boy could see that the man had attitude! And Minhyun approved of it very much! It seemed as though this Changmin was a lot like him and his umma and would get along with them just fine!

Seeing as the adults were all looking worried, though, Minhyun decided that he better help. (All these adults were so helpless! It was of course up to the little evil genius to make things right again!)

“I’ll wake him up if you want,” Minhyun offered to Leeteuk.

“How?” Leeteuk asked, curious and raising an eyebrow skeptically. This little boy, whoever he really was, seemed quite sure of himself and his ability to wake Hankyung.

As an answer, Minhyun simply walked to Hankyung, stood on his tiptoes so that his mouth was close to Hankyung’s ears, and said loudly, “Uncle Hannie! I’ve found a box of matches! I’ll play with it and see if your apartment is flammable, okay?”

The adults were impressed that such a young boy already knew a word like “flammable,” but Leeteuk, Yunho, and Jaejoong looked more bothered that Minhyun seemed to have evil pyromaniac tendencies. Changmin just grinned at Minhyun’s words, though.

Pyromaniac as it may seem, however, Minhyun’s words sure enough did the trick.

Hankyung’s eyes snapped open, and he jumped off the seat. It seemed that Hankyung had already been programmed over the years to be so on alert for any trouble that Minhyun might cause, and Minhyun’s words cause the Chinese man to react instinctively.

Minhyun grinned widely—evilly—as his uncle looked around wildly. “Is there a fire?! Where’s the fire, Minhyun?!”

And then Hankyung’s eyes landed not on fire but on Changmin, Yunho, Jaejoong, and Leeteuk instead. The Chinese man wished right away that he was dealing with fire instead. That might have been better.

Hankyung now remembered the events that had happened before he fainted. Holy hell, Minhyun and Changmin had really met! It wasn’t just a nightmare! And now Hankyung was in the same room as half of DBSK and the Super Junior leader.

Hankyung paused and gulped as his mind processed that last bit. He looked at Leeteuk. His former leader. It’s been so long… He sure had missed Leeteuk, but he wasn’t so sure of how he should act now. Was Leeteuk mad at him for leaving?

While Hankyung was hesitant, Leeteuk was quite sure of his emotions.

The Super Junior surprised Hankyung when he stepped forward and hugged the Chinese man so tightly. “Hankyung! Oh, I’ve missed you! How have you been? Have been well? How are you feeling now? Did you hurt anything when you fainted and fell down?”

Hankyung had to smile. He never thought that he would experience the mother hen Leeteuk’s hundred-questions-a-minute that Leeteuk always did when it comes to the well-being of his dongsaengs.

“I am okay, hyung,” Hankyung replied. “It’s good to see you again.”

“You know him, too, Uncle Hannie?” Minhyun asked as he watched Leeteuk bone-crushingly hug his uncle.

Hankyung didn’t know how else to answer Minhyun’s question, so he hesitantly gave his nephew the truth.

“Leeteuk hyung here was my leader when I was an artist in Korea.”

Minhyun frowned in confusion. “Leader?”

The little boy didn’t understand how his uncle used the term. What did that mean? Was this Leeteuk man a “leader” like how he and his umma aimed to be the “leaders” (a.k.a. supreme overlords) of the planet?

“He’s the leader of the idol group that I was in. Super Junior,” Hankyung mumbled quietly. Deep inside, Hankyung was feeling emotionally overwhelmed. It was the first time ever that “Super Junior” had been uttered in Minhyun’s presence. It was quite a moment for Hankyung. Both for the good and bad. Good because Minhyun finally heard the name of the group that was actually important to the little boy’s life. Bad because… well, this would probably add to the already too-long list of reasons for Kyuhyun to kill Hankyung.

“You were a part of an idol group?” Minhyun was actually impressed! His uncle had been in an idol group?! That was soooo cool! But the little evil minion suddenly frowned. “How come you’ve never told me this before, Uncle Hannie?”

Anddddd Hankyung started breaking into a cold sweat right there and then. What was he supposed to do? Tell Minhyun that his umma wanted everything about their idol lives in Korea kept quiet so that he and Minhyun could live “normally”? And tell Minhyun this in front of the present audience?

Hankyung couldn’t do that!

Then, the door of the conference room suddenly opened, signaling the arrival of even more people on the scene.

Sungmin’s head peeked curiously into the room, and he smiled when he saw his leader and the DBSK members there. He shouted over his shoulder, “Hey, guys! I’ve found them!” Then, the pink-loving Super Junior member entered the room. “Leeteukie hyung, the managers are going crazy! The interview is so delayed!” Then, his eyes went wide when he noticed that Hankyung was also in the room! “Hankyung hyung! You’re here!”

“You found them, Sungminnie hyung?” Ryeowook had entered the room with Shindong and Yesung. He was also shocked when he saw their former bandmate. “Hankyung hyung!” the eternal maknae exclaimed happily. And he ran to hug Hankyung as well, with Sungmin, Shindong, and Yesung only a step behind him.

“We missed you so much, hyung!” Sungmin said.

“We didn’t think we’d ever see you again,” Shindong supplied.

“My turtle and I missed you!” Yesung asserted.

“I’m so happy we got to see you again!” Ryeowook cried out.

“I’m glad to see you guys again, too,” Hankyung assured them, though his voice kind of muffled, seeing as he was being squashed in the middle of his emotional dongsaengs.

The conference room door opened again.

Apparently, with their leader and half of DBSK missing, Super Junior took it upon themselves to search the TV network building.

The rest of Super Junior now came in the room.

And Hankyung found himself even more squashed as more dongsaengs came to hug him, especially when Eunhyuk and Donghae practically jumped on the others to join the group hug and when the skinship king Siwon wrapped his arms around Hankyung’s neck (the only part of Hankyung that was free from clinging, emotional dongsaengs) from behind, nearly strangling the Chinese man.

The Super Junior members had come because the interview was getting delayed and couldn’t start without Leeteuk and half of DBSK. But the interview was quickly put out of their minds when they saw Hankyung. The next few m
