READER INFORMATION: Subscribers and Members Only [M] – this story also carries a trigger warning for the depiction of anorexia and eating disorders
It's actually very difficult to talk about this story because it packed such an emotional punch, and even more so if you've been through something similar yourself or somebody close to you has. I don't say that to put anybody off, because I think that this is well worth reading, if you feel like handling the issues it raises, but because of how true to reality the depiction of anorexia, and the mindset that accompanies it, is, it is not a comfortable read.
This is set in the idol world and is sort of semi-canonical in that Tao, Kris and Luhan have all left EXO, but the M sub-unit is failing and kind of marginalised. It's realistic, too – the hectic bustle of a schedule making it easy to avoid other people when needed, and also the brutality of the editing cuts of the industry on screen and in shows.
I would also like to point out the ray of sunshine that starts to beam before we go any further: this story is ultimately one of healing, and (even better) the nature of the setting means that there is no possibility of it being romanticised. Healing from something like this can take a long time: it has its dead ends and faulty starts, but it is achieveable with the right help, the right support, the right mindset, however hard it is to

EXO-M has collapsed, and Chen is getting pushed further and further into the shadows of EXO-K. He's invisible, a ghost, and no matter how many excuses they feed him, he knows the real reason – he's just not good enough. In a fragile state of mind, a combination of thoughtless words, dangerous advice and sheer desperation set him on a path from which there may be no return.
