Controlled by a talisman, Kai is a genie bound to grant anyone who finds the powerful stone three wishes. Soon after his current master of a decade finally makes his third wish, the talisman seeks out his new master – a teenage girl named Kwon Ji Won.

thoughts PLOT: Inspired by Aladdin, Genie is about, well, a genie. Specifically a genie called Kai who is jaded by the prolonged servitude to a variety of different masters who abuse his powers to get what they want. Fresh off the back of the traumatic experience with a particularly malicious master who exploits a loophole to make him kill somebody, the last thing Kai wants is another self-absorbed person picking up the talisman that controls him.

Enter Kwon Ji Won, single child and teenager naive enough to actually give Kai a modicum of control over himself by not personally keeping hold of the talisman. Revelling in the minuscule increase in the amount of freedom he has, Kai is set on tricking or persuading her to make her three wishes so that he can be rid of her, but despite not having to be at her every beck and call, unlike with previous masters, there's something about her that means Kai just can't help a little bit of meddling...

If this story sounds familiar, it might be because it is. The author's story Three Wishes was recommended back at the very start of this list, and this is more or less the same story but told from Kai's point of view.
