For Yerin there's only one way to overcome the discontentment in her life.

The problem is that she doesn't think of the consequences her choice will bring in the far future.

thoughts PLOT: There's a tinge of Dr. Faustus in this – the main character sells her soul to a demon and it comes back to bite her. This is a short story, so there isn't time wasted in the plot – it gets to it and there's no extra padding. However, I felt that there would have been much more impact if more was made of the success that Yerin has and the story plot began before it actually did, or if there was more about her time revelling in her life going right – in particular, more reference to the hourglass could have been made. It only crops up once.

CHARACTERISATION: There's no romance (I think romance in this particular thing would have been a bit messed up), before we go any further. As with the plot, there would have been more impact on Yerin's plight if we'd seen her in the heights as well as in the pits, and that would make her a more empathetic character. It's not that she's not: it's just that there's potential for more there, even in a short story. The thing that really makes her sympathetic, though, and also breaks away from the mild Dr. Faustus tinge is that she doe
