We arrived earlier than we should have. All thanks to Jin Ah rushing me when all she had to do was to drive for no more than 15 minutes. We were welcomed by a beautiful floral gate at the entrance where they were giving out those very nice masks to wear before you could enter the beautiful and dimly lit ballroom. They gave me a white mask with sparkling silver glitters and Jin Ah got a black one decorated with red glitters, which in fact went well with our dresses. 

“You have to keep it on throughout the night~! It’s mysterious prom night! Have fun! Next please!”

We wore it immediately. Then I panicked. So how was I going to recognise Mr. Mysterious tonight, when my major night blindness wasn’t helping me at all in this ballroom? How ironic.

Jin Ah was thrilled. She was already pulling me past the excited crowd towards the other exit. There was a stage and the stage crews were pacing up and down testing the mics, stage lightings and equipment for one last time. There was even a big banner above the stage – PROM WITH B1A4.

It had already attracted a large crowd of animated masked fangirls.

“Ji Hye-ah Deullie oppa said we could sit over there!” Jin Ah pointed towards a red couch placed at the right side of the stage. My jaw dropped again.

“Right… your oppa… reserved THAT THING FOR YOU MAYBE. I’LL PASS.” My voice almost cracked while saying that. THAT WAS A LITTLE TOO ATTENTION SEEKING. NO WAY. I must have great intuition because I flinched when two very exaggerated girls caught my attention - My sisters.

I tugged on Jin Ah’s dress and pulled her over to a corner behind a potted plant.

“Ya! Look there, I was too excited I forget about them! My stepmom will kill me if she finds out! I was supposed to clean the house remember?!” I whispered.

Jin Ah’s body language told me that she too, had already long forgotten about my stepmom. She tensed up immediately. That was what I’ve forgotten!

“So.. now we can’t sit there!” I gestured towards that very eye catching red couch. Even a fly could spot us right away. Almost as soon as I said, Jin Ah was already on the phone with Sandeul. She nodded a few times and hung up.

“So how?”

“Deullie oppa says that we can just stand in front. He will get that couch removed. You’ll be hidden safe and well.” A playful smirk lit her face and she grabbed my hand and we squeezed past the crowd avoiding the sight of my two sisters.

“It’s starting soon!” Jin Ah took a quick glance at her phone. In the corner of my eyes the couch was already removed, very efficient indeed. I took out my phone from my clutch bag. One new text message.

What mask are you wearing? Don’t worry I’ll find out soon. I’ll definitely find you.

You better be! Are you here near the stage too?

Everyone behind us started screaming and the five boys walked up the stage in their black and white stage costumes. They weren’t wearing tuxedos neither was they wearing masks. My heart started its own furious thumping when Jinyoung walked up graciously. He smiled tight-lipped and "shot an arrow" at the crowd. My eyes narrowed followed by a rather disturbed and angsty feeling. I pfff-ed at him with pouting lips. WHOT NOW BOY YOU’RE GIVING TOO MUCH FAN SERVICE.

“HELLO EVERYONE! LET’S START WITH PROM! YALUUU!” Baro shouted to the crowd and the music started.

“Hey, is that...? is that Ji Hye?”

“That’s not possible, remember mom asked her to clean up?”

“That’s true. She wouldn’t have such a good dress anyway or such a good slander figure.”

“Yea just shut up now and YAAAAA OPPPPAAAAAA III AMMM HEREEEE!!!! AHHHHHHHH!”

I’ll meet you 11:30pm at the backyard. keke

Right. See you there. 

I flipped open my phone – 11:20PM. 10 minutes. Sigh.

I looked over my shoulder and the boys were dressed up smartly in tuxedos now. They looked like they’re getting married rather than attending a prom. Too gorgeous that left me speechless. Shinwoo was dancing mannerly with some blond girl in the middle of the dance floor while Baro and Gongchan was busy filling their plates with the sumptuous buffet. Not forgetting Sandeul and Jin Ah who were laughing over something they’ve just said. And then Me – forever alone. Wait where was Jinyoung? He must be somewhere drinking cocktail playing emo again. I shrugged slightly.

I pulled on my cardigan and strolled out towards the backyard. It was very dark, considering it was only lit with candle stands. I wondered if he chose this place for the darkness or the ambiance. Well, the night was colder.  I shivered a little and pulled my cardigan tighter over my bare shoulders.

There was a small fountain in the middle of the backyard garden. The water was shimmering under the moonlight, so dreamy. I felt like a princess sitting by the fountain waiting for my prince to arrive.

I checked my phone again. 11:28PM. I was getting nervous as the time ticked by. Adjusting my mask one last time, I quickly dusted my dress. Should I remove my mask?

“Where are you? If you bail out on me again I swear to break your neck.” I whispered, suddenly aware of the situation.

“Break whose neck again you say?”

A voice came from behind the fountain surprising me and I was on my feet the next second, reflexively.

I turned around and saw a  sleek black figure standing under the moonlight. I couldn’t make out him face because it was too dark. He wore a white mask similar to mine, contastingly visible to me. Intentionally?

“Annyeong Ji Hye.”

“Mr. Mysterious?”
