I took a deep breath and practiced my smile in the mirror for the nth time. I was gravely reminded by my father that I should look my best because everybody knows I am a part of his family. I hung my head low in disappointment. As if I wanted to be a part of it. As if I wanted to do this. Nevertheless, I had no other choice but to follow his rules.

I was now about to transfer to another school which he owns a part of it and said that he wanted to keep me close as I am the future beholder of our company. Like I wanted to be one!?

I sighed in resignation, “Well, you really cannot have everything in life Tiffany Hwang, so just swallow this all up and you’ll be fine.” This is what I tried to remind myself every day. Maybe it’s because I don’t have any other choice either

I was stuck in my thoughts when somebody knocked on my door, snapping me out of my thoughts

“Ms. Hwang, breakfast is ready. Your father is also waiting for you.”

“Yeah! I’m coming down, just a few more minutes.” I looked at myself again. Yeah, this is me. The horrible, ungrateful daughter anybody could have. And I’m not that really proud to be a part of this family either.

I went down stairs only to be greeted by my dad with his ever stoic look. I bowed at him slowly and sat on the opposite side of the table, “Don’t disappoint me today Stephanie.”

I sighed in defeat, “Like I ever did father. Anyhow, aren’t you supposed to be leaving early today?”

“Are you disrespecting me?” I returned his stoic look, “No father. I’m just wondering. You have told me that I would not see you first thing in the morning, so I was just asking. Was it bad that I did?”

He averted his gaze and sipped coffee from his almost empty mug, “The meeting was moved to a different schedule. Anyhow, would you like me to take you to your school?”

I shook my head slightly, “No thank you. I have someone that I would go with”

“And to whom do we owe the company?” I smiled at him slightly, “Lee.Soon.Kyu.”

He smiled a little, of course he would be really glad to hear my lovely cousin’s name, “So you two are still together huh?” I nodded meekly, “Yeah. She couldn’t leave me alone, so she transferred to our school too”

He let out a slight chuckle, “At least you already made a friend.”

“It would be at least helpful if it were from my school… We both don’t know a thing about the school so having her together with me doesn’t give that much advantage, father.”

He breathed sharply, “I see. Well, I’ll be off then. Never forget what I told you Stephanie.”

I stood up and bowed at him, “I won’t father.”

I arrived at the school an hour before its opening. Although I was not allowed to get in, but having my father a part owner of this ever prestigious school, I had the advantage. I walked around the area with Soonkyu, only to be overwhelmed at the school’s large region. I smiled a little, “Not bad. Father’s made me a little happy today”

Soonkyu chuckled, “Boy, am I glad to hear that from you…”

I smiled at her and walked around the perimeter, “This is great, a school with trees and stuff. I think I could live with this, won’t you agree Soonkyu?!”

She playfully smacks my arm, “Yah! It’s Sunny! S-u-n-n-y, not Soonkyu for Pete’s sake!”

I chuckled at her sudden outburst, “Sorry, my bad Sunny… Now I think I would like to see the classrooms…”

The guidance counsellor led the way inside the building. She showed us various rooms and of course it didn’t fail to amaze the both of us. Sunny went a little closer to me and whispered, “This place is really huge… And old!”

I laughed a little, “You got that right…” After the tour that we made, we finally stopped at my soon-to-be classroom.

The counsellor smiled at us, “Well, this is it girls, I hope you enjoy your stay here in our university”

We smiled back at her, “Thank you for the lovely tour Mrs. Choi. We’d see you again sometime” With that we bowed at her as soon as she started walking away from us

We regained our composure and looked at each other, “Well, welcome to college Lee Soonkyu!” I held out my hand for her to shake and she gladly took it, “You too, Stephanie Hwang” And then we laughed together as if there’s no tomorrow.

The half of the day was one of the worst ones I had in years. Not to be arrogant or something, but wouldn’t it bother you greatly that everybody just sticks their hand out to you and then introduce themselves as if I asked them to do so? However, of course I didn’t want to look impolite and what not, so I just complied to their wishes of being “friends” with each other.

I really didn’t like that approach. I really didn’t fancy being popular. I just wanted to be me. I’ve been trying so hard to keep a low profile and I failed to do so due to the fact that I, being the daughter of the “owner” information always come out. I sighed in resignation, it’s my first da
