Leap of Faith
A Reason to Live
It's the middle of January, cold, the wind is blowing softly. Climbing up on the railing before me. Looking left, right, then down to the water below. I catch my breath and slowly start to build up the courage. This is it, finally going to do it.
“Don't do it.” a voice breaks the silence.
I look to my right to see a tall blonde guy standing there looking at me with desperate eyes.
“I have nothing left to live for....”
“You have so much to live for. Why? Why would you throw your life away just like that?” he argues
“You wouldn't understand....Just leave me alone.”
“I won't let you do this.”
“You don't even know me!”
“I know enough to say you have a lot to live for.”
“A lot to live for.” I scoff.
“Everyone on this earth has a lot to live for. Please, just don't jump.” he pleas
“I have nothing to live for.....” tears start to roll down my cheeks
“I'll be with you soon.” I whisper
I close my eyes and I let go and take the little step forward. No more pain, no more crying. As my fingers leave the cold railing I feel as if a weight had been lifted from me. I have nothing to worry about.
I open my eyes to see a little girl, it's me. Next to her is...My mother. We're playing the piano...laughing just like we use to, smiling. We were so happy. Just like old times, I miss you. A flash of light goes by and I see that we're on the couch watching a movie.
“I love you Violet. Don't you ever forget that. I'll always love you.” s
